Memories can be hard as we tend to imagine and mix up information with what we remember. How we remember what commercials looked like is no exception to that haha.. I have a gut feeling this is the commercial. But if it's not, it is in the right steps. You've earned a sub regardless. This was very well done.

I'm so glad to find new information on the "Hitogata" commercial, and with this new lead, I feel like we're very close or have already found it and people are just combining memories of two commercials like you said. By the way, as someone who's studying Japanese, I'm really happy to see how much research you put into the translations you used for the video. For future reference, it's worth noting that the Japanese language uses three different writing systems; Kanji, Katakana, and Hiragana. That's why you got different characters for Tokuyama. The ones at 11:25 are written in Kanji, while the ones at 11:33 are written in Katakana. Don't be surprised however if you find a Japanese word that has different Kanji spellings as each character in Kanji has its own meaning and the combination of Kanji can mean different things despite spelling the same word. Can't wait to see more videos from you, keep up the good work! :D P.S. The symbols at 11:45 says "おわり" or "Owari"; meaning "end."

The text translates into "Chemistry is now in the unknown world" as you've already guessed. And the おわり in the end, doesn't read Tokuyama, but "Owari". It means "the end" in Japanese, so it's just the end of the commercial.

And btw, the tokuyama commercial contains the word 世界(world) which could also be used when talking about "every 2 seconds a man dies on earth". And right above the text is a "2" for some reason.

i think i just realized that the supposed tokuyama ad might actually just be a bunch of screenshots of different advertisements placed at the end of the ad compilation, which would make sense to why it says "bonus" at the beginning, and also show tomy and the government public relations logo, which wouldn't really make sense to be in the same ad and this might not be much of a reason since it could just be a generic sound effect but that same repeating railroad sound in the bonus section is also used in actual ads in the compilation as well, so it possibly could've been recorded and reused for the screenshots but then again this is kinda just speculation lol

"Tokuyama"ad was found. (It's uploaded as "トクヤマ CM (1993)") I think it is uncertain that it could be Hitogata from watching this Tokuyama ad. According to uploader, Tokuyama ad had 2 versions, one was aired in Yamaguchi prefecture, and the other was aired in whole Japan. The uploaded one is the latter.

I'm very fascinated by hitogata. And a theory that some people believe is that it was a anti suicide psa which to me sounds plausible, such as the text that appears at the end of the psa. But I do believe that this psa is a combination of misremembering since some Japanese commercials have very similar features to it. But this is pretty good video, well done 👍👍.

okay, i think i know what's going on with the commercial you found. the link posted in may of 2021 leads to a collection of different commercials. what's shown at 15:57, the very end of the video, are several screencaps of different commercials. when the "ding ding ding" sound begins, the white text on the blue background reads "おまけ", which means "bonus" as you said. then comes the still image of a person with "化学は今未知の世界へ" overlaid on top, which can indeed be translated as "chemistry is now an unknown world." after that is the logo of the two white figures in the blue circle with text reading "政府広報" which translates to "government public relations" as you said. after that is a still from an advertisement for two handheld LCD games by the TOMY toy corporation, specifically the "スリムボーイ" or "slim boy" shooting and racing games. finally this comes to an end with the white text on the blue background reading "おわけ", which google translate says means "farewell" but i am unable to find it in any japanese dictionaries (there are many ways to say goodbye in japanese but i am not familiar with that one). i believe the creator of the video stuck these at the end in a "bonus" section and they are completely unrelated otherwise. i googled "化学は今未知の世界へ" and found a full commercial containing that still image which was created by the tokuyama corporation (which is some sort of chemistry company, which makes "chemistry is now an unknown world" make sense). if you'd like to see that commercial for yourself, just search "トクヤマ CM(1993)". i believe that someone misremembered the JR eastern japan PSA and that's what started the hitogata legend. possibly they combined that PSA with the "chemistry is now an unknown world" tokugawa commercial in their mind somehow (they could have aired one right after the other, for example). in case anyone was wondering, i am not a native or fluent japanese speaker, though i did study it for several years and passed the JLPT N5 exam a few years back. i'm quite rusty now so i used machine translation for a lot of this. TL;DR: the "commercial" posted to the lost media wiki in may of 2021 isn't the hitogata commercial because it isn't a commercial at all, it's a collection of screenshots. (but thank you for including that in this video, because i hadn't heard about it before.)

perhaps those two advertisings were shown at the same time or in the same context. As you said, the tokuyama ad starts with "bonus" word. And the thought of the figures appearing and dissapering could be a mistake as the first commercial has black bg with letters appearing and reapring, and then the other comercial has a human figure appearing, dissapering and then the public gov relation logo appearing. I just love a good lost media channel and your videos are so well researched that I just had to subscribe. I don't know if you know this ,but the Tomy that somehow is part of the PSA is one of the world's largest toy companies. I wonder how the handheld video games shown in the middle of the PSA in fit into this? I could be wrong ,but I think the single word at the end of the PSA says end. I think it might say that because lots of old Japanese movies at the end of them have three character word that means end to just simply say the movies over. I don't know much about Japanese PSAs ,but I would guess seeing as they could be thought of as short films they do the same.

I was once trying to find a song that I used to listen to. I remembered some lyrics, and kept searching based on them. At the end, it turned out that I was looking for 2 different songs, that my brain had combined into one. So it is possible that this is the case with Hitogata as well.

I’m not a native speaker, just a high school student, but the text at the end reads ‘Owari’ not Tokuyama. This seems to be a form of the verb ‘Owaru’ or ‘to finish’. Thus I think that’s just letting viewers know the bonus section is over. Native speakers correct me if I’m wrong

When I saw the Tomy logo I knew I had seen it or heard of the company before. Looking it up I could find that Tomy was a toy company from Japan. In some logos I saw above Tomy it said Takara which is somewhat similar to Tokuyama and could've gotten lost in translation. I don't know what Takara means though. (Quick note upon looking up Takara I got the wiki for the the Thomas the Train spinoff Tugs where it talked about Takara being involved in the Japanese version. I have some knowledge of Tugs and didn't even know it had a Japanese version. But I couldn't find what Takara meant.) If you look at the objects shown at the part of the commercial where it shows the Tomy logo it looks like some sort of portable video game console which leads me to believe this is just a Tomy commercial and is a false lead. If I'm being honest I think Tokuyama and their commercial have nothing to do with the lost commercial. I know I'm wrong on something so please correct me if I am. After watching the video further I agree now that the two commercials were combined so forget this entire comment I guess. Alright so I know no one has seen this comment really but I decided to go beyond my two minutes of research and went deeper. Takara means treasure and it was on the tomy logo because they were two companies that merged. I also figured out why thomas the Train was linked to this. Apparently tomy made thomas toys. Takara was also the company that made the japanese version of Tugs which is why i found it on the tugs wiki. Dont know why i didnt mention this earlier when it was right there for me to read but now i did so... I still know that all of this is probably for nothing and I, just so you know, know nothing about japanese companies or anything. I just saw tomy and fell down a small rabbit hole that involved thomas the Train. This doesn't even relate to the video anymore I don't know why I am doing this.

Using google translate and comparing the text to speech output to a language you just don't know a sliver of is just laughable. Google translate itself is already unreliable, not to mention there are many possible ways of translating a sentence.
