I think it refers to something far broader than clothes based fashion. Also the rise of a brand of generic Indie that developed through 2004-2005, while Leeds and many Leeds based bands made a name for themselves in this way, The Cribs stayed away from all this remained relatively underground until the release of 'Men's Needs, ....'. So it's about following musical trend as well rather than being true to yourself, you van here reference to this in 'Mirror Kisses' and 'Martell'

did they only play 3 songs? probably a silly question but they might not have broadcast the rest, shame I didnt like/know the cribs at Leeds 06 :(
@tallciaran16 жыл бұрын
iLIKETRAINS, iForward Russia!, One NIght Only. If I had more time, I'd list more. But the point isn't about making average music, its about hanging in certain haunts, wearing certain clothes, just acting in a way that gets you noticed thats not the music. Personally I have no problem with such things, but 'The Cribs' are purists and their is no stunts, no marketing. Just the music and a hectic tour scehdule that'd put 'The Buzzcocks' to shame. You gotta love it!
@tallciaran16 жыл бұрын
This is also why 'The Cribs' identify themselves so closely with Wakefield, where other bands always try to associate themselves with the nearest big city

The Cribs are a rare, meaningful glimmer in an ocean of indie bands. Yes, they are influenced greatly by Sonic Youh but they have developed a somewhat different sound, filled with much different lyrics. If I wanted to get picky, I would tell you that the word "it's" contains an apostrophe, of course though that would clearly show that I was losing the argument and desperately trying to maintain an ounce of credibility.

I find them very hard to relate to because they indulge in so much of what I dislike about music. I find their bloated sense of self very unappealing. Take Lars Ulrich for example; his head is stuck well and truely up his own arse, his holier than thou attitude really grates on me. The world really doesn't need rock stars...
@SameWayOfSaying16 жыл бұрын
I don't think technical ability is necessarily a part of good artistry, I think that's pretty poor judgement. I could sing really fast but it wouldn't make it sound good. Anyway, I think the whole idea of rock stars is pretty degenerative anyway. I want someone I can relate to, not some arrogant superstar. If you don't understand that I feel sorry for you.
