I have to agree on just about every single point you hit. Slick knife, great design, and just as fast of an action as a higher end knife. Love it. It is uncomfortable in the hand after more then a few minutes, and AUS 8 steel isn't my favorite. But, here is why some of those issues aren't as big of a concern for me. I carry this as a gentleman's knife. That means it rides in my slacks or suit for 3 days a week, and only comes out to slice an apple, cut a string, open a package, or occasionally stab my computer (not really, but probably will happen someday). So its time in my hand is usually less then 60 seconds, and the tasks it needs to handle are rarely enough to dull it, even with AUS 8. I can get away with a sharpening every 3-5 months fairly easily. BUT, having it as a gentleman's knife makes the pocket-chew factor even worse. I currently have 2 (very expensive) suits having their pockets and pocket seams redone because they were feasted upon by the Cricket-Bones and a titanium WE knives clip. Still, loved the review. Thanks man.

Mine has a great action, stiff detent, drops shut easily. It does have the tight pocket clip and hot spots but not bad for the $45 I paid 'open box'. I like the slimness, weight, blade shape.

I just recently became interested in pocket knives, and the crkt crossbones was my first purchase. Luckily mine didn't have the same qc issues as Nick's. I'd agree with that ergonomics is where this knife falls short. The long blade and slender body design make this knife not the best for most uses. When I want to use the whole blade, it's hard to find a good grip. Nice review.

saw this on a 24 hour sale and decided to look into it again in consideration of buying it at a reduced price. Glad I checked out what Nick had to say about it. Even at a discount, it was going for over 60, and there is just no way. Thanks Nick.

Wish you could get all the knives you review from a retailer anonymously. You would be astonished by the lack of QC from all manufacturers! There is minimum quality control from most knife manufacturers. Best QC? From my experience Spyderco. Maybe there is a way for you to look into this. It is the elephant in the room for those of us not near a brick and mortar store. Thx for vid.

I agree with all your points except the pocket clip issue. I find it easy to put in and pull out of the pocket. Everything else you said, especially about the lock up, was on point.
@Tyler-sl6vg5 жыл бұрын
I also do not agree with the pocket clip issue. I think Nick was a little hard on this one overall. Not to knock the review but if you like the look of it at all you will love this knife once you buy it. My lock up is about 50% after hundreds of flicks - there's a little stick but I'm sure that's gone if I throw some oil on it. Just like when I got my PM2.
@darthblade20165 жыл бұрын
I do not have the lock stick problem yours does, but i agree with a lot of your other points for sure, especially when it comes to price. The CRKT Avant is a perfect example, great looks with a crappy steel. I can get a Civivi knife that is similar in a lot of ways, but has the better steel and i am 99% certain it will have a better action. I traded for my Crossbones and the value i sent was around $50, so im happy with the price i got, but would never get it for $70.

I was caught by idea of Gentleman's knife, slim and thin, classy looking, to be OK in suit's pocket. This was one of the options, but I went for Bocker Urban Trapper with Carbon handles. A bit more money, less of a knife, better materials, flimsy handle but it's OK for non-demanding tasks.

I’ve been seeing card board testing that shows aus8 performing with d2 easily and even with some m390 class steels depending on manufacturer. At least aus8 on the rat knives.

I think that AUS 8 is just fine. It sharpens easy and quick and can take a great edge. However, AUS 8 knives should not be priced high. It is a budget steel and needs to be priced accordingly. The Real Steel Metamorph is better looking (IMO), $10 less, and has unquestionably better steel: 14c28n. If I wanted a folding steak knife, that'd be the one I'd buy. Here’s how QC is supposed to work: you pull samples and record the lot that you’re sampling. You record defects. Then, when you find like defects appear too frequently, you FIX THE PROBLEM!!! If you aren’t trying to fix the root cause there’s not much of a point in QC’ing. CRKT won’t get my money based on principle alone.

For the price point, we can not get better then this knife. Canada Cabelas sale. Under 100$ I can never find better then AUS8 steel here in Canada. It is better then 420HC, 8cr13mov, 440 etc . Even it is better then 9cr18mov. Yes we can not compare it with S30V or premium steel which comes with over 200$ folders in Canada. Regarding clip and liner lock issue i can say you got bad piece , mine liner is at 50% / center and pocket clip is not on those edge. Its true light weight slim performance knife. Goes easy on my pocket, easy opening , easy sharpening and satisfactory holding edge for price point. On of best knife I own between $50-$300 range .

Among all ugly nick finds the flipper jumping is also super rough and the liner lock bar is also oddly difficult the grab on to. Although I found this on sale for 56$ on amazon Ian now not going to look at one of Jeff’s knives simply because of how bad this knife is. Sad sad sad.
