I more than once happily fell asleep when you read the classic ghost stories with your calm soothing voice. This time I nearly screamed as well with the terrified sister - you are the born story teller. These told tales are way more vivid than the read versions ... or should I say more undead ... Creepy-crawly.

A rare and invaluable skill, is storytelling and few there be that have it. You do. I close my eyes, riding your voice. I’m taken to a meadow, sweet with heather on sinewy fingers of cool breezes, winnowing beneath the weight of warm air. As cool tides in clear, sun warmed springs fed from deep, dark caverns. You sit, and tell us unpredictable stories. Smoky sweet, in the leaping of shadows of firelight. You bring me back, back to the time when the storyteller was the keeper of history of a people’s story. In the beginning, as the end, our imagination buoyant, as creation springs from us, and the single constancy is each other. Lighting little fires in each other’s minds. A good storyteller is unpredictable; you never know what they might create, for themselves or, in another.

Hello Mr Walker, I have heard The Croglin Vampire previous to your Wonderful Narration. However your telling of this spooky Tale, had me literally transfixed and on the edge of my Seat. Thank YOU so, for the very personal narration, I Enjoyed it VERY much. I Love Vampire Scaries, especially the Gothic ones, the Ghost ones as well. And there is nothing that can beat out a rich, beautiful, well spoken English Gentleman such as yourself to share it with us. But I really appreciated the feeling of being at home, back in my childhood telling Scaries to siblings and friends on a chilly dark rainy night long ago. Thank You for the memories, Friend.

Or the other way round mayhap...the vampire picking out the lead paning to open the window is straight out of 'Varney'...but these may be literary embellishments of an authentic vampire incident. I remember Montague Summers examines the facts behind the Croglin vampire case.

American viewers may recognise the plot as the inspiration for "The Window" in the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark trilogy. I don't have a copy with me so I don't know if Alvin Schwartz said as much, but as I recall he listed most of his sources in the end notes.

Also what you appreciate you get more of and what are you complain about you also get more of! Quantum mechanics/physics says that what you resist persists! I’m sorry for preaching! I’ve been to Croglin many times to look around. It may be because of watching An American Werewolf in London but there is a vibe in the village. Like they don’t want you there. (To be fair they may just be sick of visitors for the vampire legend) I never went in the Robin Hood Inn (that’s what it is called now I don’t know if that’s what it was called back in the times of the story) i could imagine if you did walk in to the pub it would be like the Slaughtered Lamb and everyone would shut up and look at you. Once i drove into the village and there were crows hanging dead upside down on the fence wings out stretched. Also in a garden opposite the church there was a trellis in the shape of a cross with ivy or something growing up on it. Now this is obviously a stretch but IF this was true and lets say there is some truth in vampirism being a disease that can be transmitted via a bite. Would Dorrothy not have become a vampire. That would have made a good sequel haha.
@ClassicGhost4 ай бұрын
I drove through it a couple of months ago. We didn't stop... I have half a memory the pub was closed?
@Flukey_19704 ай бұрын
@@ClassicGhost I’ve never seen the pub open or did you mean properly closed. That would be a shame if it’s been open several hundred years. I think i might drive back over and have a look for lower hall as i have not seen it. I always thought the attack was supposed to have taken place in Croglin Grange and no one knows where that is. Lower hall does sound like the place as back then it was single story and there is a window bricked up that is covered in horse shoes to ward off evil etc.
