Killboxes are a lot less OP now tbh. Spike traps are nerfed, which are pretty much the bread and butter of a killbox before. Raids are more diverse now, too. Sieges and drop pod raids are a lot more common as well. I think the devs are taking the right direction by putting heavier emphasis on turrets, more IED traps, psycasts, get immediate help from ally factions, etc., and more resource to build and rearm spike traps.

I play vanilla with all the DLCs

Completely agree - I actually didn't realise the spike trap change! Having more options is definitely better and those changes are positive for sure. Thanks for watching 😊

One of my first 'killboxes' was my car garage. I'd position people inside, then pop the garage door and let 'em rip. I had IEDs outside, and a box full of corpses below, with Deadlife IEDs. The raiders would often go in there to try and destroy things, and inadvertantly pop the IED, resurrecting an army of corpses to flood out and beat them all to death. Sometimes they didn't, though, so we had to send a brave soldier down to pop it themselves, and then hide behind the tide of rotting flesh.

I don't like meta killboxes that specifically take advantage of AI and gameplay quirks, but I absolutely dig mixing defenses more organically into room designs.

Getting a balance is much better. I can see what you mean. I'll have to try avoiding killboxes more now and see how I get on!

@@MaxMoments15 You don't necessarily have to "avoid killboxes", just maybe have someone not coming in through a shuttle or drop pod come in through the other side of an "Entrance yard" prettied up with some -flammable- plants you don't mind losing.

i really dislike killboxes however the fact that theres no advanced warning about the direction a raid is coming in means that oftentimes, in certain directions, the raiders can be past my defenses before my colonists can man them, which just feels cheap

I think feeling like you have to path raiders to one spot it a bit of a shame, but like you say, when some colonists are out hunting or mining and can't get back in time then it can be pretty rough!

cataphracts is so hard to take them, in CE is a really problem
