The movie is about revenge. The original comic book it’s based on is a romantic story. James O’Barr wrote it as a way to deal with the death of his fiancé who was killed by a drunk driver

Great choice, Blank. 🙂 This movie really is a love story, which the sequels and TV series tried to recapture, but didn't _quite_ manage to. It also has one of the best lines in any movie, ever.😄 "Quick impression for you: 'Caw! Caw! Bang! Fuck! I'm dead!'"

The Crow is one of my favorite films and IS my fave soundtrack.. I feel terrible for Michael Massee, (Funboy). The guilt he felt after shooting Brandon, (definitely not his fault), led to him almost retiring from acting. He had a few more roles after this, but he was traumatized for life. He sadly passed away a few years back.

The scene where he gets killed at the beginning you never see his face it's because it's a double... The same was supposed to be he originally get shot by Fun Boys revolver... But that scene is where you actually got killed so they redid the scene and instead of him getting killed by a bullet somebody throws a knife at him and that's how he goes down... Before it gets thrown out the window... After he was shot nobody did anything right away cuz I thought Brandon was still acting

"Can't rain all the time..." I'm not going to talk about the tragic, accidental death of Brandon Lee. It's a complicated matter beyond the scope of this comment. Not wanting to dismiss his death, but I'm sure there are books and videos out there that can explain that tragedy and do it more justice. RIP Brandon Lee. Fun Fact: One of the ravens used in this film, Magic, was used in all of the following movies. Authentic Makeup Effect Fact: Alex Proyas said that Brandon Lee was unhappy with the way his face paint looked when the makeup department applied it to him before shooting. Lee and Proyas then agreed that it would look best if Lee applied his own makeup every night before going to bed so that when he woke up his face paint would naturally look more worn out. Art Through Adversity Fact: Director Alex Proyas originally wanted to shoot the entire movie in "black and white" closer to the comics and only using color in Draven's flash backs scenes with high contrast theme, but the studio executives didn't allow him to experiment with approach. This made Proyas shoot much of the movie in a monochromatic color theme mixed with red and dark gray.

It's poignant seeing Brandon's scenes with the cat. He & his fiance, Eliza Hutton, had 2 cats they loved dearly (their babies). I remember an article in People magazine with several pics of them in their home. In every photo Brandon was holding or playing with the cats. They were either Himalayans, Ragdolls or longhaired Siamese. And they were beautiful, like Brandon & Eliza were a beautiful couple. They were to be married a week after Brandon finished filming "The Crow". Heartbreaking on so many levels. 💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙

SO . . The scene where Fun Boy shoots Eric in the chest in the bedroom with Darla is the scene where the round that killed Brandon happened. The gun was used for 2 scenes . One they were loading it ( I believe it was the scene with the group in the club ) and there was a charge in the primer that pushed the lead into the barrel . The scene with Fun Boy was shot later and they never cleared the barrel of the gun so when Fun Boy fired the blank it basically turned that jammed lead round into a actual bullet and it went through Brandon's chest and lodged into his spine. He lasted 2 days in the hospital but they couldn't save him. RIP Brandon Lee. Again I agree with Shaine down there .. Gone WAY too soon.

The actor who played Funboy was the actor involved in the accidental shooting of Branden Lee with the prop .357 you see him use in the movie. A prop bullet became dislodged from it casing and was lodged in the barrel. Firing another blank generated enough force to propel the bullet down the barrel and striking Brandon in the abdomen doing massive damage to his internal organs. They used 50 pints of blood during his surgery which is effectively replacing his entire blood supply five times, desperately trying to save his life but there was just too much damage.

The late Michael Massee (Funboy) never watched the finished movie and took a year out of acting. He said in 2005 that he still had nightmares about the accident and said "I don't think you ever get over something like that." He passed away in 2016. I would love to think that in the afterlife, Brandon hugged him and told him that it wasn't his fault, and that he can find peace now.

@@mikeduncan3953 that's a pretty myopic view. He was more than an actor or martial artist. He had philosophy about things. @@blytheguy7510 I know that, and you know that, but the majority of people remember him as a martial arts actor that made funny sounds. He couldn't even get a leading role in Hollywood at the time. He came up with the pitch for the TV series Kung Fu, but the network refused to hire him and gave the lead role of the Asian kung fu master to a white guy. Unfortunately Bruce didn't become as popular as he became until after his death. What I kind of compare it to in my mind is imagine if Steven Seagal died after his first 6 movies. There are sequels with none of them live up to this one.... There's also a remake the works right now starting Bill Skarsgard as Eric draven.... Honestly I don't know how to feel about it either because Brandon Lee literally gave his life for the role so I think it's kind of messed up the remake it

So, Eric has powers as long as he's on course with his revenge. When he kills all four of his targets and goes to the graveyard, he was done as far as he was aware, and going to save Sarah was all on him. However, once Top Dollar admitted to Eric that he was responsible for all of it, Eric got to use his power to transfer the pain that Albrecht held on to. There's deleted footage of Sarah's mom slashing Eric across the back and arms with a razor while he's putting Funboy in the tub. Because he stopped his mission to help her go to Sarah, those wounds didn't heal up, and that is why he wrapped himself with tape.

Small correction, it was Funboy that slashed Eric up after he dealt with Darla, and that's why it didn't heal. The deleted scene can be found on KZbin.

Yeah Brandon Lee had a guitar teacher who wrote the music that he is playing because Brandon Lee already played a bit of guitar but he wanted to do better since he was playing a character who was a local rockstar so that’s Brandon playing in the scene , not faking

Kinda looks a tiny bit like Mark Dacascos, who is also a martial artist. You saw him in John Wick 3 as the sushi chef/ninja/7 cuts/John Wick fanboy he fought inside the glass room towards the end. He was bald. Also, I'm almost 100% positive that T-Bird was Sully (guy who was dropped off the cliff) in Commando.

James O'Barr loved the classic painters and based every panel of the original comic on poses from Michaelangelo, Da Vinci, and Rembrandt. From Wikipedia: "O'Barr later remarked that losing Lee was like losing his fiancée all over again, and he regretted ever writing the comic in the first place."

You can tell stylistically how much The Dark Knight was inspired by the Joker - including Heath Ledger's performance - quite eerie in fact. Loved the tone of this film in that it didn't rely heavily on comic book tropes as much as movies would later on but rather a crime film about grief - it makes it standout even after all these years. Brandon Lee was sublime :)

The crow gets injured or dies and it doesn't kill Eric since he's already dead, he just looses his invincibility. So if he's shot etc after that it makes him easier to get rid of. This concept isn't explained in the graphic novel. As we don't learn he was actually dead until midway through when he tells us what happened to him and Shelley. There, Eric takes on an alter ego of sorts, called "the crow" but the physical crow is more of a moral conscience as opposed to here where he physically guides Eric in the movie. In the comic, they get engaged and go to the beach, returning home, their car breaks down and Tbird & company, harass them, kill him by shooting him in the head, shoot Shelley and then r*pe here. Like the movie. However, Funboy r*ped her after she was dead. He didn't care. The relationship Funboy and Darla had stayed the same. In the comic, Sarah was a minor character called Sherri. They changed her name for the movie. Sherri never met Shelley and she didn't meet Eric until after he came back from the dead.

Check out The Crow:City of Angels,The Crow:Salvation, The Crow:Wicked Prayer and the tv series The Crow:Stairway to Heaven which is an extended version of the first movie, some people don’t like them but that’s because they are in what I call a death worship cult because Brandon Lee died during the first movie and most of them weren’t fans of The Crow until the first movie came out instead of being fans of the original comic book

One thing that people miss on the first viewing of this movie is that one of Eric's powers is that he can feel the history of certain objects and people. That's why you have those quick flashbacks from time to time--when he touches the cat, when he's looking for the ring, every time he encounters a bad guy, and when he's at the cop's apartment. It all comes flooding back.

There is alot of misinformation and rumour with something so underground. Some-think this whole movie was cursed. Certainly strange and scary things happened. A few cool things i learned. The scene in which he was actually shot, is not in the movie. After the police investigation the footage was destroyed. For the purpose that it was his families wishes and no one wanted essentially snuff film footage out in the world. According to what i have read from police reports and interviews of people on the film, the scene was him coming back to the apartment. The goons were there and shot him. The gun went off sending the unchecked projectile hitting brandon. Basically shrapnel. They couldnt stop the bleeding even with life saving surgery and many many units of blood. He just got hit and slumped down. Past away a day later. The scene where he returns to the apartment in the movie isnt him. Its a body double. They cg’d his face into this scene. Also him shirtless walking and shivering was used twice. Watching it closely you can see it. Lastly to make it quick, sad but interesting thing to me was tbirds death. Brandon was in the car for that scene. The gun he had was very likely the same one that killed him in real life later. All the “out of car “shots was the body double again. I loved this movie and Brandon from the first watch. Back when we rented vhs. Lol. I have this movie and watched it alot. I even managed a original movie poster from the movie as well. They just dont make them like him anymore. God rest him.
