I was excited at the concept of Bill Skarsgård playing the crow until I saw 3:17 Handsome MOTHERFUCKING JACK on his chest with a nipple as one of its eyes. Bill was perfect casting and the director/studio botched it appearance wise. As for the director's comments on saying ‘I hope people who are 19 today look at him and go, "That guy is us.’” and it feels very "how do you do, fellow kids". Sanders is like 53. Alex Proyas was around his 30s I believe when he directed the original Crow and was close to Brandon Lee's age at the time. Also I think it's very backwards that the new film will have Eric and Shelly be druggies when in the comic and original film drug addicted criminal were the ones who brutalized them and killed them. The new criminals from the trailer looks like they lack personality, the world of the new film looks like it came from some generic YA novel movie. I'm a bit confused when people say the crow shouldn't be remade? The crow was an adaptation of the first comic and I see it as open to a remake. The problem for me is that the 2024 crow seems to be if not is already confirmed to be the antithesis of everything O'Barr's first comic and the 1994 film were.

The graphic novel, the Movie, and the soundtrack. Set it in the 80's this would make it timeless instead of the "Hey fellow kids" face tattoo fad that will die off in the next few years. Get an 80's soundtrack together. This would be awesome for marketing. Think Stranger Things, and "running up that hill" that was viral for almost a year. Make the whole thing a tribute to the comic and let the 90's movie stand on its own and let it be a new inclusion in the trinity. It would have to be made with love and Hollywood isn't capable of doing that.

How maybe the reason for the changes were just for modernization purposes; how keeping the names were strictly for nostalgia purposes; how it's cool that it's different because there are lots of Crow stories that have been told. My biggest excuse was going to be the difference between who's making it. The OG was made by people that genuinely loved the comic, and since O'Barr was there they were afforded a front row ticket to the pain and guilt that went into making it. The people making the remake fell in love with the movie, so there is a degree of separation there that the first movie didn't have. Nvm, doesn't sound like a Crow movie.

The Original Crow Film Adaptation was lightening in a bottle, it had more soul and had all the right people at the right period in time making it with more dedication & passion than the sequels and as it appears this upcoming remake. The Crow as an anthology film franchise with a different lead actor as a different character in each instalment taking up the mantle could’ve worked if there was that same amount of dedication and passion in each sequel as there was in the original instead of looking like cheap soulless cash grabs plus the 3 people that made the original work the most and why it was so great was James O’Barr, Alex Proyas & Brandon Lee who all 3 again with that same dedication and passion lobbied hard to make the adaptation of The Crow they wanted to make at the time (before Lee’s Death forced some changes) and keep the untalented studio executives away from interfering as we all know they like to do which is probably what happened in the sequels and this remake judging by how Bill Skarsgård looks in the movie. Overall some Films are better off as standalone works and 1994’s The Crow is certainly one of them

Especially due to the fact that the whole goth look still holds relevance in pop and alternative culture today, whereas the whole emo rap look like that of Lil Peep and even Post Malone to a lesser extent kinda became outta fashion and not rlly relevant in 2019. So much so that MGK was frequently mocked for trying to hv a somewhat similar vibe/look. If they rlly wanted to “modernize” The Crow, they coulda used someone more relevant like Yungblud as a reference, cause tho the guy has his detractors and def isn’t goth, he is relevant and going in that direction could at least still make The Crow, feel and look like “The Crow” and not Jared Leto Joker or “Don-tay.”💀💯

I have similar feelings to other franchises as a fan so I totally understand your points. My problem as a person who didn't grow up with the comic book (tbh I finally bought it last year) or the original movie is that they want to modernize/remix something that can stand on its own legs very well even now. I understand their take as they are artists and creators but why change something that works fine? I would love to bring new people to the franchise by showing them the feel, the music, the emotions of the original just in a modern technology with talented actors. "The Batman" is a good example for me. They just went back to The Detective Comics, made Batman a detective, showed a story in this world. They didn't try to make it more modern or trendy, just make a good adaptation of the core material and it worked. I really liked Sander's "Ghost in the Shell" but it had all flaws that are shown in "The Crow": he took a great piece of media, remixed all iconic elements, flatten its sense and purpose and released it as a fun blockbuster. I think this is what Hollywood needs to still learn: there are great stories and characters, you don't need to change them to adapt something, just be faithful and aware.

14:11 The director's comments feel very after-the-fact (and unsurprisingly so). This remake was merely a paycheck with franchise potential and they didn't think there would be such a negative response from both fans and people involved with the original film. Thus, the "remake is a 'tribute' to Brandon" BS. And my frustration with this remake isn't based on nostalgia - I actually liked City of Angels, thought Salvation was entertaining enough, and will always have a special place in my heart for Stairway To Heaven (still avoiding Wicked Prayer, though). Bill definitely has the chops to pull it off - just create a new character!

Honestly, what’s worse about all of this is the fact that this reboot isn’t just disrespecting Brandon’s legacy, but also just spitting in the face of James O’Barr. The Crow was written as a way for O’Barr to cope with the death of his fiancée, even recreating memories from his life with Beverly and using them for the flashback scenes. Eric is literally meant to represent O’Barr in the narrative and the depression he is dealing with. In the context of the graphic novel, the new reboot is a disrespectful adaptation because its taking a story that is directly based on someone’s life and just disregarding everything in it. It lacks the soul that the graphic novel had, nor does it have the soul of the 1994 movie. In comparison to those two, the reboot is a meaningless, lifeless flanderisation. While the graphic novel, *especially* the graphic novel and the film had me feeling emotional, this reboot is definitely gonna make me feel nothing. While going through the old apartment a probably 12-13 years old “nephew” Draven takes Eric’s guitar, a photo of his band hangman’s joke, and his binder of songs as souvenirs because their music was what they bonded over. Fast foreword to “Nephew” Draven being 19-25 or whatever. He’s got his own band called Hangman’s joke in memory of his uncle, he’s using his uncles old guitar, and still has his uncles old songs. (Although he probably seldom actually plays them.) perhaps after he leaves playing a set with the band he plays one of Eric’s old songs for his girlfriend or fiancé because she asks him to. Have them discover a drug ring that is being run out of the place his band plays at and when they are discovered by the villains they meet their tragic demise. After this their script can do whatever this particular movie does.

Having known about this film’s impact and importance for a while now, and also having just recently watched it for the first time (as an adult) I can say that it is truly ahead of its time and definitely doesn’t deserve to be milked and defiled by another reboot. This film really is a testament to the time and holds its own even 30 years later.

I don't think it's fair to judge a movie so harshly just by its trailer, but it's very clear to see that both version have different vibes (the new looking more like a John Wick movie than anything). I think if they reeeaally wanted to make a Crow movie, they should have just made about a different character and left Eric with the 1994 version. I believe it would have been more respectful to everyone and everything that that movie represents.

I've only seen two of the crow sequels. I watch the one where that crow comes back after being put in the electric chair and hunts down dirty cops. And I saw the the first quarter of the one set in Mexico I think, with the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. Even though they were probably not good movies, personal had fun with what I saw of both.

I was also hoping for a remake closer to the source material. I really thought that, thanx to the success Joker, we would get that...more grounded in reality and gritty. I LOVE the Brandon Lee movie, but it still had a bit of that Hollywood gloss on it. I liked how the murders of Shelly and Eric (no Draven) in the comic were a random act of chance by common street gangsters as opposed to a planned building sweep by goth-mafia types. I love how the comic presented Eric with a generous dose of insanity. He was a character you were sympathetic to, but at a safe distance, because he was downright scary at times, and his kills borderlined slasher movie payoffs. You never were gonna see Lee's Eric beating the enemy's head in with a hammer. I think that Joker showed that O Barr's original vision could have worked beautifully and brought profit.

Really enjoyed the video. Might not agree on everything, but i do agree that this new remake isnt pulling any of the essential elements of the Eric Draven or Shelly Webster characters. And while I dont mind them adding a few things, from what ive seen in the trailer, im not sure i like or appreciate how they add those new things, mainly because they also subtract. If they built on top of previous elements, i may be more optimistic. But im not. Trailers exist to give people a sample of what the movie will be. Like Madame Web, i saw this trailer and immediately knew i would spend my time or money to see it in the theater. Im a Crow fan so im sure ill eventually see the film on streaming, but i give feedback with my time and wallet and this remake wont see either while its in the cinemas. Ive seen enough movies in my lifetimes to judge if i want to see a film in the theaters from how i feel on a single trailer. Kudos to those who still want to give it a chance, but i am not among that flock, or murder. The remake looks and feels different enough to where i wonder why its even called The Crow. Like those terrible Resident Evil movies where they just slap the names Leon and Chris onto generic characters. Bills a great actor tho. Its a shame im not excited for this remake.

I saw the trailer of the movie and its hollywood rather than cultural. Ive been going through multiple channels on here and getting insight on how people really feel about a crow remake and sadly, i agree with them. My reason for doing research throughout the fan base relating to remake is because i feel bold enough to make a direct sequel to the first one. Now, i know everyone is either excited or not so thrilled about it but I really think remaking the second movie without remaking it and removing the third movie without removing it. It sounds confusing and rather complicated but not so. My envision is bring in a new character who is prone to meeting the other crows who are manifested as crows to follow this new crow because 'Odin' recruited him to commit Ragnarok (war) and the story i have for the new character not only does the othet crows justice but ties them in with this new current crow who is determined to save his cousin thats being enslaved by so/so. No spoilers. The focus is to show how much the old times are making its way into our present & future. Which is what Odin is about. Time, Wisdom, and War. The name of the script im writing as we speak is called "Pack of Crows" which overall defines the purpose of the original film but driven into a new originality that could lead to maybe opening doors for Marvel. I think The Crow under the Marvel flag is a good input because we need new fresh ideas BUT ideas we are familiar with and The Crow is an Avenger of sorts. Much like Deadpool and Wolverines story but in its own dark gothic cultural domain. Even if my script and film doesnt make it under the Marvel or DC flags, i would be proud to know i did it justice to leave it as sequel to the original that ties all the other movies together. Tbh, this script im working on shouldve been this film they are currently making rn for a remake but i shed/show no disrespect. It could be good, it could be bad, or i can tie that Eric Draven to the multiverse under the marvel flag but i wont know until i watched it personally. This is sensitive and i would not publish my work unless i had blessings from James O'bar and the lee family.

That being said, I seriously hope all of the negativity surrounding this movie doesn't deter Skarsgard from taking chances on more risky roles in the future. The man is an absolutely amazing actor and I am almost positive he will be in this as well. But the only true Eric Draven will always be James O'Barr himself and Brandon Lee respectively. City of Angels is a much better film than it has ever been given credit for. It would have been a good sequel if not for studio interference. Mia Kirshner's performance as an adult Sarah was complex and wonderful. Iggy Pop was good as Curve. And Vincent Perez as Ashe was actually decent in the title role, but he suffered by comparison to Brandon Lee's career portrayal of Eric Draven. Which is the exact problem with the new re-imagining. If Bill Skarsgard weren't playing Eric Draven, and if the story wasn't supposed to be a reboot of the Brandon Lee film, then the new movie might have been better received. But there is no Eric Draven that isn't portrayed by Brandon Lee. And every other version of the film will have to live up to that standard. If they really wanted to do a new version of The Crow they should have tapped into the third graphic novel and the female Crow character of Iris Shaw. That would've been something different from Eric's story, while still being a Crow story.

Great analysis. I agree, leave the crow alone.
@beavers19787 ай бұрын
I try to leave Brandon Lee's death out of the conversation because not only do I find it in bad taste, but I also think it has no bearing on the situation. The character of Eric Draven should've been left alone because his story was told pretty well in the 1994 film, and there's not much else that can be done with him. It should've been just another person resurrected with the power of the Crow, just like the sequels. I like Bill Skargard, and I have no doubt he'll try to give it his all, but him alone will not be enough.

Why can’t moody teens just watch this? Like we did? The OG Crow may not be close to the comics, but it was pure gold.
