The most interresting thing in this book is the characterization of Jude, I mean she is human in the world of Fairie, and she is not really good, she is not really evil too. It's just the perfect définition for a human character, she is not à perfect character and it made her really attractive. The balance in her characterization is perfect and she doesn't look like some stock and flat character. I hope Vivienne and Taryn will be more developed in the other book, especially Vivienne which looks like so lovely!
@evakmohns53634 жыл бұрын
honestly, I love her thinking process, very interesting character.
@rupojasengupta43983 жыл бұрын
IKRRRRRR, like not only that, she also becomes a perfect example, as to how Humans have managed to stay at the top of the chain, despite much savage beasts existing.....She had that intelligence, and that artfully manipulative mind that makes a human dangerous, but she also had a fear of being the weaker one that kept her grounded.....one of the biggest reasons why she was able literally weave a tale out of every character, is because of how she is never Overconfident, no matter how perfect her plan is....she also isn't like other human characters who are so sex deprived that they swoon over the main lead since day one. No, SHE pulled the strings on the MAIN LEAD unlike in EVERY OTHER YA books

I loved how Jude's characterization was. I am the same age as her and I found so nice that she was having mental breakdowns or panic attacks before doing dangerous things (not because of her suffering, but because when you have the same age as the main character you wonder how it would feel going through the same things). It felt as if I was reading an actual teenager. Some YA writers put oblivious teenagers to do a lot of things without panicking and it's just so fake lmao. Plus the mental illness rep was very well done so I really can't wait to see what she's going to do next.

Ikr! That was one thing that I loved the most about the book. The strong female character, but she has her fears and anxiety and how she has to act strong and powerful or else she will not be taken serious. It's like I could relate so much. Fake it till you make it! 😂

Honestly, he's just useless and dumb. I've read the book and the king is just stupid. He's easily manipulated and tricked. He can't see through the cruelties of fae even though HE IS FAE. And he think conversation will stop assassination. He's just so dumb and stupid and ignorant, especially towards Cardan. Like they have no interation but he still shunned Cardan. Idk he ran elfhame. Like he does nothing but be paranoid and speaking in a FaThErLy tone.

There is a specific part without spoiling that gave me Red Wedding vibes and i had to listen to the song that plays in thats scene while reading. I love the book so much I read it in two days haha and to see the connection to A Modern Faerie tale and The Darkest Part of the Forest had me geeking out haha I felt the world grew large in this story. I felt Jude was very nicely layered and i gelg her frustrations of being let down in ways and gaining power and betrayals

So my first ever Fey series was the Iron Fey series. I LOVED it (though I haven’t read the last book which is told from a different story from the first 4 books, I don’t wanna give any spoilers but yea, I love it still to not want to finish it *cries*). It had a Romeo and Juliet vibe but not really. The fey are nastier than this book but I just loved the whole story since it had action, likable characters, and a semi-ok heroine. Then I read Acotar series and I fell in love with the fey all over again. Then I read this book and I feel like something is lacking. Maybe because I would like to read something to what I’ve read before regarding the fey, I’m not sure. I’m actually hyped for the 2nd book to see how everything unfolds since it left on a pretty nice cliffhanger (totally my opinion). It was slow until 3/3 of the book but I liked seeing how different this heroine was from the fey series I’ve read before. It’s quite refreshing to see how the romance wasn’t insta (still not sure that they will actually fall in love but I hope so, this is why I bought the book) and I’d like to see how Carden.....grows? Is that the right word? All in all, I liked it. Not as much as my past reads of fey but enough to want to buy the next book :3

I didn't like this book as much. I almost DNF'd it during the last third of the book. I didn't get Cardan suddenly becoming a wimp and listening to her. She bosses him around. Her confidence came out of no where. Its not like years had passed, the fact that the King was giving up his throne came up pretty early in the book. How Jude is suddenly in charge deciding whose going to be King, meeting with Lords and asking for their support, she's like this kid who hasn't lived very long compared to the feys/fairies (whatever) in this land. I debate reading Wicked King.
@devilovesdevil5 жыл бұрын
He has no power towards that part of the book. He may be a Prince but he's no highborn prince. He didnt turn into a wimp but more layers of why he he is the way he is gets unfolded. Jude thrusts herself in because she makes mistakes to bargain with someone she shouldnt have without looking into it and falling for someone using her as dramatics and stumbles upon information. She wants to peove herself but all through it she is unsure but her confidence comes from the fact shes doing the right thing in her eyes. The fact Carden goes along with it is shown and his willingness because of what she promises he will gain after.

Well i hated the ending, and the epilogue couldn't even fix it. Not all surprises are good. This is nothing but a cautionary tale of how people can make you into a monster from which you can never return to yourself, but it should have at least shown how she overcame losing Locke and Cardan by finding a more noble, fulfilling purpose than merely wielding power over a throne her better self never wanted. She still didn't even belong to either world in the end, and she had nothing more fitting to show for it than hated, lonely, power over fairyland (through Cardan)? I know she thought she was making fairyland better, but yeah, what happens after a year? I thought this was "enemy-to-friend," but it was merely enemy-to-worse-enemy. How stupid and disappointing (even though, again, congrats for surprising me lol)! How is this supposed to be constructive (despite the dark beauty of its description of how it feels to be an innocent outcast from every land and unable to find yourself again after suffering excruciating loss at the hands of the humans and their dumb pride)?
@ms-tz8jo7 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed the book; I wish I did. But what descriptions are you talking about exactly....? There were no descriptions and world building whatsoever, reason why I felt so disconnected from the book. It was very very telly. This was my first Holly Black book, and tbh? I'm not a fan.
