To be honest , it doesn't matter where it came from, it's a great song from a great band, and i'm glad it's on here!!

this is the Steve Brown produced (the producer for Love) recording that they scrapped. Crazy what a difference it is from the Rick Ruben produced version.
@tristandunn46282 жыл бұрын
I think it's even earlier than that. This sounds very different to the Manor Sessions/Peace version

The Steve Brown mixes I've heard here on KZbin have insane amounts of reverb and echo, I can't believe it is real, such stupid mixes. I like the style they played at the time, but this version and some live versions (Provinssi Rock I believe) are better than the Steve Brown mixes I've heard. He just DROWNED the sounds so it lacks definition.

I remember having a cassette tape of a Pinkpop show of The Cult. They played this version and a couplke more from the pre-electric area.

Dreamtime - Love - PEACE - Sonic Temple. If you listen to those records in chronological order, hearing the likes of 'Sun King' make so much more sense!

This song and Zap City are great examples of their own and unique sound. Long live rock and roll!! Long live The Cult!!

Sooooo much better than the version on Electric. One day Rick Rubin will stand before St. Peter at the pearly gates. St. Pete will hold up a copy of Electric and say, "Sorry, I can't let you in. You ruined God's favorite band."

In what bizarre universe is this better than the version that came out?
@underwriter1003 жыл бұрын
H’mmm, no. I respect that you are a fan of the Cult but the group wanted to change. They wanted to go hard rock. They didn’t like England’s vibe at the time which was that hard rock was not cool. They loved America, esp LA, where Metal was king. It was not Rick Rubin’s fault, he was just an enabler to help get them to where they wanted to go. I like both versions of the Cult but agree that they did goth/alternative music better than they did hard rock. Curious how they would’ve turned out had they kept that style

Sorry to break it to you folks, but this song is not a demo, it is from a 'live session' recorded for the Janice Long evening show on Radio 1 in the uk in 1986. Great fucking version anyway.

@etkar73 like Electric Ocean - my fave version I've heard is Pink Pop, May ' 86.

Man this is so cool cos i have not heard all of these demos...))) Shhweett knowledge!)))))) Great stuff! Happy as a lark! I bought love and then them all! all The Cult's music! I bought Electric at the same time GNR's appetite f d .. was on the market..mtv sure helped gnr..and they were good no doubt but I was like wtf? The Cult blows GNR off the map! But here in the states everyone was so over marketed by GNR......The Cult is one of my all time favorites though! Cheers!

I agree with the general sentiment about the Cult abandoning their goth/post punk roots, although I will admit that I'm a big fan of the "BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL" album and to a lesser extent, SONIC TEMPLE. Side one of BG&E is better than anything they had done in 10 plus years prior to its release!!

I bet you if Ian and Billy could do it over they would have never fired the producer from the Love/Manors Sessions and would have continued in the same vein for at least another few records. Electric and Sonic Temple would never have happened and they would have held alot more respect from us true fans, I should throw ceremony in there with the trash that is the cult sellout period of Electric and beyond.

@@aolcruz Good for them. What's the point being a great band if you aren't going to be able to live comfortably off the success?
