As a bassist, do you think Cure's bass playing is spécial ?
@joshen60103 жыл бұрын
There is one part of the lines which is almost the same as Object.

I think technically maybe Michael Dempsey is better than Simon.His lines are fancy.
@GaylordBonnafous3 жыл бұрын
I think the same, and anyway Robert Smith said that it's the reason why he fired him: he was technically too skilled, his playing was too complex. And also, he held his bass too high, like a funk bass player, RS didn't like it, he wanted someone who played like Peter Hook.

@@GaylordBonnafous Yes, I also read somewhere that R. Smith was very influenced by Siouxsie and the Banshees after he played with them for a while.

@@zmgrar Yes of course ! I guess Joy Division + Siouxsie and the Banshees = The Cure’s more obvious influences (especially 1980-82). He made Seventeen Seconds after playing with them in 79, with a darker and more experimental sound, and also he stole Siouxsie’s hairstyle, and even loaned her lipstick. :))) But bass-wise, two very different styles. Severin was heavily influenced by Can. Simon Gallup’s models were The Stranglers and The Clash. He even adopted (around 80) their fashion style, especially Burnell’s! Perfecto, Dr Marten’s, rolled up jeans, T-shirt, hairstyle… And also their attitude on stage! By the way, Burnell had some great basslines and bass sound, you could cover some Stranglers songs, like for example this one : kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYrUnZ-mo96KqLs I’m really impressed by your playing, and how effortless it looks (but I guess it’s a lot of work!).
