@@110BERLIN_ Ah, I forgot “All Cats Are Grey”. I have a few favorites….A Strange Day, At Night, Untitled, 2 Late….but if I had a band Other Voices is the blueprint……bass line, eastern guitar line, ghostly ambient minimalism, desolate lyrical surrealism. I love the eastern guitar solo in “M”, too. I got in at Disintegration in ‘89 when I was 13, and my friends made me copies of the trilogy 17 Seconds, Faith, and Pornography. Those 4 albums are the heart of the Cure for me. I love most through Wish though. I also had Boys Don’t Cry, and the Standing On A Beach cassette with all the b-sides, which is the proper version of that release….never understood why the cd was a single disc without the b-sides. And we used to watch Staring At The Sea on VHS, and I loved the hazy smeared atmosphere of Other Voices.

@bibsma3401 Other Voices as template makes sense the way you explain it. Also agree re. The Cure's "heart". One could argue that there's also a second one, defined by the run from The Top (underrated!) to Kiss Me, marked by The Cure updating late 1960s psychedelia in their skewed manner.

Not one but 2 new Cure ones... ! Very nice ! Requests !!! A Hundred Years, A Strange Day, Untitled (Disintegration) and one of all time faves....Harold and Joe ! Remember being that 15 year old Asian kid in Leicester years ago with everyone else obsessed with Soul II Soul and Bobby Brown - not my bag...but then this weird concert was on TV one night and I was absolutely hooked. Absolutely entranced by "Shake Dog Shake" and "A Night Like This"... I give you...."The Cure in Orange".

I'm not familiar with Modern English' music. Checking out a playlist right as we speak and it sounds rather good. Somewhere in the neighborhood of early Wire and the Joke. Need to hear more. Thank you for mentioning them!

@@110BERLIN_ I was more specifically pointing at Life In The Gladhouse because of similar heavy use of drums and bass. Modern English is postpunk for 2 albums and then they became very romantic.
