I loved it. I always love Simon and felt bit frustrated that The Cure aren't all Robert, and Simon has been one of the longest members and good friend and brother-in-law. very sad to hear about Lol though the musicians must practice what they love and make every efforts to stay on top of the art. Friendship is very important though the band like The Cure cannot afford to kept him as millions of eyes and ears at them. When The Cure achieved 40th anniversary and Rock' n' Roll Hall of Fame in 2018 all the past members including Lol gathered around, was lovely. I wish Simon good health x

It's a harsh interview in terms of discussing Lol Tolhurst. Now with his book out he's the first to admit his drinking was way out of control for a longtime. I think if it wasn't for Robert shielding him from the rest of the band Lol would have been gone way before Disintegration. I'm glad Lol's found sobriety and managed to mend his relationships with Robert and Simon.

Great to hear interviews from ‘the others’. He sounded very uncomfortable during the Lol part. I think 95 was right after the height of the lawsuit and all that mess. I think they have made up since. Seems like Lol has changed a lot since then.

That's a long conversation..Love his voice and even his subtle shyness. He's not a talkative person but whenever I listen to him I feel like he can quite articulate himself. Even though it's fractured in some ways.

Just found out Simon left the group. Very sad. He is just as much as a part of The Cure as Robert. Simon’s bass was the foundation of their sound. There is no Cure without him (EDIT: He is back in the band now. Thank God!)

Simon isn't "just as much a part of The Cure as Robert Smith". There is no Cure without Smith, he's the constant in the band. Members have come and gone and the band has been put on hiatus by Smith, so it's his band ultimately.

@helenbartoszek243 I don't know about that but Simon's and Robert's similarities are in the mountain of filler words they both use. Simon's speech uses, Um, um, like like, it- it and pauses after pauses. Robert tailgating with filler words behind Simon racing through the race track. It's due to these boys not reading books or trying to learn the language at any point in their lives. Robert tries to be too cute, shy, and smart when he speaks. 😆 Am I being mean? No! Cos, it's the truth. 💋 👄 💋 👄 But I feel sorry for the kids who love this band so much that they intentionally speak like these two successful speech um um like like it it um like it pause pause it um um it like um um it it ect.....

The Cure did just fine without Simon Gallup, maybe even better. Japanese Whispers and The Top were perfect LP releases and they were without Simon. Phil Thornalley was a shoo-in as The Cure bassist. The Concert: The Cure Live 1984 lineup was just as perfect as the Head on the Door lineup but maybe even better because it was the origin of the Cure look and music. The 1984 Live lineup was tight and perfect and image-wise it was the origin of the Cure look that they've kept to this very day. The Cure's 1984 and 1986 band lineup versions were the diamond stages of the Cure, but I feel the 1984 Live lineup was, and is, the real Cure.
@timhall3575
@timhall3575 Жыл бұрын
I'd argue this is total nonsense. The Top is basically the closest to a Robert Smith solo album one can get.. it's arguably the weakest Cure album of the 1980s (yet still better than all the 90s output) Yes the Top era live band were good - but that's a separate matter. The 1984 live line up certainly informs the band as it is for the last almost 40 years.. but to discount Gallup is ridiculous.

@@timhall3575could not agree more. His bass lines to me are magical, and I’m not normal bass girl as such. I also find his slight stutter so cute, no arrogance, just himself.

Rubbish. I love the ‘83-‘84 era as much as a Cure fan could, but without Simon’s return to the band (along with Boris) we would have never had the immense output between 1985-1992. To say Gallup is undervalued is complete nonsense.
