If I were a celebrity, I would have a policy that I don't do autographs. They are so pathetic. What does that really mean for a fan to have an autograph from a person who hasn't even really engaged with them or put any true interest in doing so?. They just wanna get it over with. I agree. Signature is sooo pathetic not only selfish for the fan but also kind of elitist on part of the musician. Such a barrier of 'I'm famous and you're not' that I despise. Few artists I truly love I'd just want to be able to have a conversation with... express to them how much their music means to me, how I connect with what they write, I'd love for them to tell me about what mindset they are in at the time, how they are, what they think of something... Robert Smith would just be a dream to talk to. Unfortunately I fear I will never have that opportunity.
