I just want to say thank you soooooooo much for all the video. I am predicted at a three for sl physics by my teacher on April, but after exploring your videos and try hard for the exam, just find out that I get a seven for physics (may 23)! I really appreciate it!

@rdelwic4 жыл бұрын
The last of the four examples is ambiguous. You can interpret the drawing two ways. In the video you interpret it as the first coil on the left passing in front of the arrow, but it can also be interpreted as passing behind. (You do mention it, but a real test on the subject would have to use a less ambiguous illustration.)
@AndyMasley3 жыл бұрын
Right I agree, that part of the video was definitely rushed and I could've drawn it much better. For anyone reading: the coil should be read as going into the page on top and out of the page on the bottom, but unfortunately from my picture alone there's no way to know that.

From 2:59 Can you please explain why you flipped the right hand curl rule and let the thumb be the field, and the curled fingers be the current?
@AndyMasley3 жыл бұрын
It's because the rule works in both directions. If either your magnetic field or current is circular, you can find it using your fingers, and if either is straight, you can find it with your thumb.

Is this conventional current flow or the negative to the positive?
@AndyMasley3 жыл бұрын
Conventional current goes from positive to negative, actual current flow is negative to positive.

Does right hand rule works for conventional flow of current or electron's s current?
@AndyMasley3 жыл бұрын
Conventional! You can use the same rule but with your left hand for electron flow
@BenjaminGSlade2 жыл бұрын
@@AndyMasley Just to explain to others reading this, Benjamin Franklin guess that current flowed from positive to negative, so that's how it was initially defined (aka "conventional"). But the actual thing flowing are the electrons jumping from metal atom to metal atom, from negative to positive ("actual" flow in this conversation). The right hand rule is using the old backwards terminology (current flowing positive to negative)

Just to clarify things if you dont know the direction of current flow, then you cannot apply this right-hand thumb rule?
@Ben-zn8pe4 жыл бұрын
It’s been baffling me as well. Nobody really explains it properly.
@june7563 жыл бұрын
No, to apply right hand rule we have to know the direction of current flow. So to clarify, think current and magnetic field as a circle and its center.. So if you have to draw a circle you need to know where the center is.
@eddevine71383 жыл бұрын
if you know the direction of the magnetic field you can determine the current direction
@AndyMasley3 жыл бұрын
If you know the direction of the magnetic field you can use that to find the direction of current and it works. As an example, if the magnetic field were a counter-clockwise circle, the current would be pointing out of the page toward you.

Well nicely illustrated but the fourth example! shouldn't the magnetic field go to the right side because of the current that is going from left to right, depending on the right hand rule??

@@AndyMasley well thanks for the reply but i am confident that if you draw the current to the right then your example would be right because of the right hand rule.and correct me if i am wrong ? Thanks for replying so fast i really appreciate the effort you put to this channel thanks.👍

@@AndyMasley I don't understand with 4th image. What I can conclude is when u use thumb as current flow, the the magnetic field will be to the right. But if u point curret flow to 4 finger, the magenetic field will be to left. So which is true?
@siradmiral56034 жыл бұрын
This concept same with solenoids, But i think we shouldn't flip the curl right hand concept. Thumb is for current flow, and another 4 finger is for magnetic field. For the thumb as magnetic field is false.

The arrows are just an added visual to the 3D vector symbols, focus on those first. It's not really possible to draw clear 3D arrows, it was my attempt to make it a little more intuitive but I can see how it would be confusing
