IMO in a game called “NHL” the best players at the game should be ones who know and apply tactics and techniques done IN THE REAL NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE. For years now when I watch the “best” player’s games, they’re always the most unrealistic games imaginable.

@@Akeirbuah The EA NHL series is by definition a “sports simulation” series. Gameplay should be as close to real hockey as possible if it’s under the category of simulation genre, which it is. Of course there can be exceptions for different game modes if you’d like but the base game should mimic real hockey as closely as you can. That’s only logical.

yeah i dropped myself to div2-3 this year to actually have fun with the game and trying to play some actual hockey. not abusing the game has always put you in a disadvantage but this year it's even worse with the green 1t and hits not registering.

22 had the defensive stick play and you could use it without your player being artificially slowed down. Not sure what thw settings online in PvP were used, but against CPU you could use it, but if you stuck your stick in the wrong place it was also an immediate tripping penalty.

I'm a guy who used to play NHL 10,11,12,13,14 very competitively in VS, EASHL and eventually HUT. And man, they always talked about wanting the game to be more sim. This looks 2-3x more arcadey than it did back then. Is it really hard to just make the game greasy? Make players lose the puck when doing ridiculous unrealistic hockey plays? Bare minimum not even achieved here.

In the defence of the new game, people sweat way harder. I dabbled in the top 100 every year since NHL 09. People didn’t take it as seriously. Now that there tangible stuff to play for (hut cards) some people go full out retarded and just wreck the game for someone just want to have a competitive match up.

EASHL during that time was fn UNREAL. Even drop in games alone would often get stacked with 10 really good players and a battle would ensue. Remember L2 vision control? You could actually stick handle while facing the play say at the point. Walk the blue line and stuff like that. Those games were all thumb speed vs thumb speed with very little BS meta trash.

Its hands down the worst NHL ever made. They removed hitting, made the meta slapshot from the point, they removed sniping goals, force players to just drain your stamina in your end and has been without a doubt the worst gameplay of all of the NHL games since 09.

Agree I got the trial and they took deking away for total control, no defense and you can’t cycle the puck since last year to move up. No snipes, it’s unplayable, I was highly ranked from 21-23 and can’t even score against the computer on pro. 😂

NHL 09-11 looked and felt more realistic than this mess. I haven’t even played 25 yet, but I’ve seen the videos. Since when do players move their stick side to side while skating. The stick is generally straight ahead with little blade movement for stick handling. The stick only makes a wide movement when a pass, shot or deke is being attempted. When players are in the offensive zone, especially defensemen, they mostly strafe, with 2 hands on the stick while facing the opposing net. Again, the stick is not moving east or west. Yet people call this 💩 realistic. In NHL 10 you could actually walk the blue line like real life defenders do. Stick handling didn’t go east to west. This game is beyond belief at this point. Mind boggling how people putting out a game like this could work for a once great company.

I was so intrigued by the skill-based one timers because you could set up actual offensive zone plays and have a guy one time it from the circle/ovi's office. but unfortunately this game is solely far side slapshots from the point with zero traffic that 99% of the time get stopped in the NHL, yet somehow beat goalies every time.

A lot of teams in the NHL are transitioning to this style of play and it’s working. Instead of throwing pucks on net, they’re moving it around to create high pressure situations and quality shots…not quantity.

true, but they're also not circling around 3 times before moving the puck. generally they are walking down the boards, leaving the puck for a teammate who carries the puck the direction the original puck carrier came from. it's not a one or two man cycle, the way the video game is being played.

The Canucks have been doing this for a decade or more. Ever since Daniel and Henrik Sedin took over the offense, it was about cycle, puck control, etc. Now they have the two-line drop pass. Unfortunately, it hasn't resulted in a lot of success. And yes, it's a tiresome way to play.

As for skating around in circles waiting for opportunities to arise, Quinn Hughes does that exact thing. Sidney Crosby has entire highlight videos of that, including a good 10-15 seconds just behind the net. Cale Makar also skates around to try and create opportunities. This is a video game. You’re mad that someone skates and passes the puck around to find scoring opportunities and you say it’s not real…but you’re fine with multiple Michigans a game or the diving shot happening like it’s a normal occurrence in real life? The game has been ass since before COVID shutdowns…don’t like it, stop buying it every year. Better yet, go play real hockey.

Perezy I’ve commented on the channel 2-3 times to very similar points. Every time it takes the life out of me as an NHL fan that the series is this directionless circling gameplay. But it’s been like this for 4 years. We deserve so much better. I’m saving my 70 dollars next year unless I’m shown a trailer or deep dive that resonates. Hate to be the I’m not playing guy but I truly cannot get over it.

Yup FIFA or EAFC is a clown show in this era. All of these games peaked in the XBOX 360, PS3 era. You could even say before that. PS2 was peak Madden. Current Madden is still ok but not what it once was. NHL has been trash for a while now.l

Two takeaways I got from this is: 1. The game needs to increase the number of other successful scoring opportunities (while obviously decreasing 1T). I hope they do this by revamping goalie AI in the future to have tendencies for which shots they save more of and the ability to adapt to game situations so they don’t always allow the same triple deke or anticipate a pass vs a shot. 2. They need to tone down skating/puck handling to reduce players ability to continuously skate in circles. In the past (NHL 13 or 14), your skaters would literally fall down and lose the puck. I don’t remember what triggered it but if they reintroduce it they can make player circling significantly reduce player stamina and once stamina is low enough or empty they fall down.

I am far less skilled than you, in div 4. down there, you can tell the players that abuse it solely because they have no defense or offense besides trying to 1T everything. it's not hard to beat. I don't blame people for trying to hit it if it's there, hell even I do. I even have a little play I will do sometimes, especially offline. I will wrist shot low farside, bounce off goalie to the side i shot to, kick to LD then to RD and it's in. like clock work. However, this isn't fun. I'm a new player to NHL as of last year and i really find this playstyle boring. they need to nerf it a little and hammer home the gold 1t bonus for like kuch etc.

Look green one Ts are fun when they land, it does not always work for tbh. But i do not always start the game with this strategy. I actually started learning dekes and game play strats and utilizing the new skating to open up my game, always looking for videos on how to open games and how to generate scoring opportunities. Yeah when i am doing that if i see an open player calling for the one T and its open i will take it but i do not always rush to the ozone with inly this in mind. And yeah i played 2 players on wildcard who played the same, i just could not get a puck and the guy kept circling on and on i guess they just hope you quit to get an easy win ? I do not know but this game play just kills the game for me.

To help explain it to you. Puck possession time is huge for staying ahead in the EA momentum which basically decides the fate of the game no matter what you do. His problem as he did lose some momentum the times he had a chance and didn’t take it. The high possession time no doubt gave him a better chance to win by doing its usual “taking slight control” in situations and increasing the likelihood of a positive outcome.

The problem is with the online play only and I don't fully feel it's the game and more of the players not actually playing hockey in a hockey game. All of these issues don't exist in offline play so you can't blame the game for it (if it was the game it would happen in all modes). There is no way to code a game in a way that it fixes how the online players play.

He's curling to get you to leave the area around your net. To nullify the curling just clog passing lanes and apply more pressure to force him out of the offensive zone. Online players are annoying but their tactics can be broken.

This is all you see clubs do, no skill, Cronus using exploiters who’ve been ruining this game. Circling, wiggling, ragging and breaking the pressure system is the most unrealistic hockey you can see. EA needs to nerf offense so badly, nerf agility, buff poke checking and remove the speed debuff defenseman have when poking. Nerfing one tees is a tiny start to fixing 25.

To fix this I think the speed and agility would need to be turned down and your Ai teammates need to be smarter. I don't think many Chel players realize how much faster the game is than real life. And the Ai is so stupid, if the Ai eas at least decent you should easily be able to trap someone trying to skate circles forcing them to move the puck instead

In my opinion is the same Meta it has always been just adding in the green one T there’s always some sort of game breaking thing or exploit that someone does and it is EA’s Fault .they put these things in the game when they know how many people play their game and they don’t bother to fix it and then they wonder why people are so critical of their game. Why do they make defending AI suck ass in this game? Defensive AI should be more aggressive. Checking options should have some Auto targeting where are you home in on the closest member of the opposite team. These games used to have that, not sure why it's gone

His strategy made no sense. He was down 1-0 but taking no shots and playing puck possession. When you're down you want to create more chances. When you're up you want to control the game to not give your oppenents anything. He was playing like as if he was in the lead but he didn't have it.
