If you have a number of residential streets that are ONE-WAY and have homes on both sides, how do you collect all three waste streams automatically? Generic automated refuse trucks are manufactured to work on the right side of the street. So when the police department randomly complained to CR&R after years of Dana Point's contracted waste hauler sending a normal truck down the street going against traffic, this was the solution. One of the old, manual side loaders that were previously used in Costa Mesa was not only made to be an automated truck, but a second arm was installed onto the left side.
I took the liberty of filming this rare sight one afternoon....one of a kind, save a couple Waste Management ones that require the driver to operate either arm from the outside (not fully auto). And even those have long been out of service.
Well this marks my first 'correct' widescreen footage, a minor filming adjustment I renewed this summer. So from now on, you'll be seeing a mix of 16:9 and 4:3 video, depending on when the footage was taken.
Feedback's always nice to have, so please comment on this. Hope everyone had a happy Fourth of July!
