This anime brought back all the good feelings I used to get when I used to watch anime. I do try to keep up but I haven't started watching any actual new anime series for almost three years now because nothing feels the same, but this anime pulled me out of that slump and made me fall in love with anime all over again. Madhouse has been animating a lot of lesser-popular animes within the last decade due to them going bankrupt. In fact, Frieren is actually Madhouse's next biggest project that they're working on. Madhouse has been making some very big, popular and well animated shows after One Punch Man too like the later Overlord seasons, NGNL movie, Place further than the Universe, Chihayafuru, Sonny boy, Takt Op. Destiny, Boogiepop, Diamond of Ace and so on. They almost became bankrupt back when they made Redline, and that came out in 2009, much before One Punch Man. They have been pretty fine for quite some time now.

I’ve always said, Madhouse is my absolute favourite anime studio. From One Punch Man, No Game No Life and even Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, they’ve always been on fire. Even my favourite anime Hajime no Ippo was by Madhouse. But in the past, their management was infamously only known to do 1 season of each anime :( So it sucked that a lot of their projects were taken from them after they went bankrupt because I was always hopeful. Frieren is the mark of their comeback and I am absolutely rooting for them!

I love you are doing this show...it's so different from any who come before both in the format and style. Some call it slow burn and it's not wrong, but i call it more a laid-back one, very relax. No fan service or crazy build up and yet it work so well its so amazing !! Some call it the ultimate sidequest anime, i call it the ultimate real adventure ! The value of time and time past with company and value of the small thing in life is the ultimate lesson. You guys are gonna love it !!

@@nichescenes that's because Frieren is paced differently and isn't about the action its more about the core theme of the story while having action in it as oppose to HxH being about the action 1st and the story is 2nd. Besides its more about what people ask them to react too more than anything else. Every suggestion you see is battle shounen, you don't see request for Slice of Life or Romance or Scifi etc... its all battle shounen. There is tones of good stuff out there that doesn't involve blowing things up all the time (They've watched and liked Oshi No Ko). Anime has far more to give and you can run the risk of burning people out by just suggesting the same general stuff over and over especially when there is so much content out there.

I think action series go hand in hand with story as you tell story through action but if you break up action as fighting, and slow talking as plot then hxh has tons of plot for a shonen it has very little action. The reason people like most arcs of HXH in fact isnt the action, but the mindgames and the philosophy. From the king holding his queen, to the discussions about morality with gon and chrollo. There's a boat arc where most of it is slow talking and just like frieren there are bouts of fast action then back to talking. (of course frieren isnt the same i was only addressing hxh for the theme of it's ending as well). But on the second point i think that's what you meant more or what i would have agreed with. They should try more genres outside shonen or a shonen focused on slice of life, romance, etc. I agree. Not sure why those dont win since (never watched it) they liked kagua and thats romance, they liked sports stuff, they'd like the cooking show, etc. And yeah just a pure slice of life, cant think of what's considered the best slice of life but im sure they'd like it. I think even a scifi like steins gate. I guess any story could be a shonen but i get you mean more dbz vs you lie in april sorta thing. Just found frieren had a ton more action then people lead me on to believe. Thought it was full slice of life, all sad, and full of philosophy about the meaning of life XD from the way people went on ha.

This story’s “past” is the best thing in this anime. Just perfectly blended flashbacks, which made this anime so perfect and life-changing. It’s not your typical “nakama” anime that dwells on friendship. So it really gives the new twist in anime.

"I wanna meet new people to fall in love with. I hope they don't dwell on the past a ton..." Well then... I'll just say that this story is very reflective in its themes. It's gonna do both the things you wanted and the things you didn't really want. But you'll understand why this is essential to the story. Both past and present are vital to the story and would make significantly less impact if you don't have both. You can describe this show as a slice-of-life even though it's in a very fantastical setting. It might feel like a slow burn than usual but is actually paced really well. Even though time seems to move quickly, it still feels like it takes a moment to breathe. I honestly don't know how they did it. Also, the OST is done by Evan Call. He did the OST for Violet Evergarden, which is also a story about a girl learning about human emotions and connections. I recommend watching that even if on your own. Since I don't think it'll win any polls whatsoever despite being a top-notch quality anime.

Yes! More publicity for Frieren! it's so good in so many ways and its use and handling of "time" is outstanding. It really hits the feels, and as a retired viewer I gotta say it hits hard. Also you should for sure check out The Apothecary Diaries. The characters and writing are as good as in Frieren and its plot is really tight.

It gave me One pieces vibes in the sense that i can i watch a thousand episodes and still want more of this show. I cant wait for the next season. ive read up to vol 7(season ends with vol 6), so damn good and so is the anime. Especially the music!
