@nismo370z46 ай бұрын
The R1 Truck is the best electric truck to date. But why add more power ? It was already quick enough. Add more range, that is what is needed to get consumers. The zero to sixty and HP numbers are a gimmick, no need to try so hard. Get the range to 500 miles, lose some of the touchscreen high tech feel, make it more basic, lower the price and they would sell like hot cakes.

They did add more range - up to 440 miles now. All trims are more efficient too. Adding another motor for a quad motor that makes it the fastest truck 0-60 in the world again gives Rivian 1) bragging rights and 2) profit padder.

They did, but not available with quad motor. New battery tech that increased range without any added weight or size, but is a 10k add on. I'm guessing the quad motor needs higher voltage or load rating than currently available for the new battery and that's why those cannot be optioned together.

Bonus points for being an actual truck
@444thunderstr0ke6 ай бұрын
So Cybertruck isn't "an actual truck" just because it doesn't look like a traditional truck? Tell me what your definition of "truck" is.
@yissibiiyte6 ай бұрын
@@444thunderstr0ke the reason the truck has never changed shape is the same reason the wheel has never changed shape. You cannot improve on perfection. A rectangular bed with even loading sills is far more useful than a bed with sloping triangular sills. A bed can be accessed from any angle, and can carry oversized cargo without it sliding right off. When the bed is not in use it can also be closed without impacting rear visibility. The Cybertruck's "bed" can only be accessed from a single angle and it cannot carry anything on top of it. In other words it isn't a bed, it's a trunk.
@parasharkchari6 ай бұрын
This is the thing that every Tesla fanboy misses. The fact that the Cybertruck looks "different" is immaterial to whether it serves its function as a truck. Elon talking about how all pickups more or less look the same as some sort of symbol of car companies being uninspired is objectively idiotic in all ways. The form that trucks take is because they are optimized to carry things, navigate difficult terrains, take on things that are punishing for other vehicles. There is no condition that requires them to look different. The Cybertruck doesn't fail because the angular wedge shape is weird-looking. It fails because you are entirely dependent on software and a camera in order to be able to see behind yourself. It's one thing to have those as additional tools to be helpful... it's another thing to say that it is the one and only thing that enables you not to back into a small child. It doesn't fail because the interior is too minimalistic and entirely driven by a touch screen. It fails because the pedal cover slips and gets caught under the molding causing unintended acceleration. It doesn't fail because it's made of stainless steel and typically not painted. It fails because the steel they use is actually below average on corrosion resistance for stainless steel to begin with and is so thick that you end up with panel alignment issues that are absolutely trash for any vehicle that costs even half as much and its trunk lid crushes fingers. It doesn't fail because it has sloped edges along the side of its bed. It fails because it is so easily destroyed by running offroad or on dirt roads that it needs to be rescued by conventional trucks. It fails because rain or mud or any other messy thing getting in the bed can bork the entire vehicle to the point where it will never start again. Things that are not true of any other truck. All of Tesla's other cars are basically bean-shaped. This makes sense from an aerodynamics and efficiency standpoint. Indeed, the Cybertruck is probably the best approximation of that you can get with that material, so it's probably going to be more energy-efficient than other trucks, all else being equal. Guess what, that's not really a major focal point for pickups. They're designed to be strictly utilitarian. A lot of the things you do with a truck like carrying loads, towing trailers, driving on awful terrain... it's going to inherently cost you in efficiency no matter what. What matters is that it achieves those things and can keep going. The Cybertruck cannot, and that has been handily proven in the field with near absolute failing despite Elon's best efforts to make it sound like the perfect creation to which all others aspire.

Everyone lives under their undeserved shadow. That's how cult of personality companies like tesla and apple work - they have to control the narrative and be seen as the leader, even if it is just a facade. It's like the Ioniq 5N no longer exists due to the Model 3 P even though it still has more HP and already has an active suspension and still will be able to out lap it at the Ring.
