I think its more than a bit of a masterpiece. Sometimes, when I'm lonely or discouraged at night, I play this. I will do my best to make sure this song is never lost.

They’ve been my favorite band through thick and thin since right around the time this footage was recorded (1983). I was aware of them before then, knew the obvious songs like New Rose, Smash It Up, Neat Neat Neat, etc… but it wasn’t until I saw them for the first time, in June ‘83 that they went to a whole new level with me. That show literally changed my life, and cracked open my mind to so many different sounds. That night was when I realized just how fuckin’ close-minded a lot of so called ‘punks’ were. Anyway they’ve always remained at the top of my list, even through some rather questionable albums and lineup changes. I’m loyal. I’m also extremely pleased Rat’s finally back home.

Majestic, inventive, sometimes slow song amidst a hardcore punk setting - a rich combination like oil and vinegar, and done in a way unique to The Damned.

This was filmed at The Brixton Ace in 1982 for the Channel 4 programme Whatever You Want. Regrettably spitting was still a thing for punks back then although it was slowly fading out. A great performance by The Damned!!!

When I bought the Black Album when if was first released , it got played till the needle of my record player wore out. In my mind one of the most creative albums ever made. I would have loved to have been there when they made this album to see the thinking behind those complex arrangements. The beginning to Mr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is just beautiful and Curtain Call is just breathtaking. They are still around today to play their amazing music because their fans never get tired of listening to it.

I saw them about a week after you did, at Numbers in Houston. It was my first time seeing them and their first time playing in Texas. I don’t know the exact date of this footage, and due to camera angles and lighting, I can’t really tell who’s playing bass here. If it’s Paul Gray then this would be no later than February ‘83. That was when he left The Damned and Bryn took his place. Either way, close enough. This is very much how I remember them looking and sounding. Absolutely stunning show. Everything changed for me that night.

Confused punks spitting and stage diving to a goth masterpiece. LOL. Anyone watching, forget rooting around for your "I was there in 82" vague and ever dwindling memories... get out and go and see them. They're even better these days. One band who still create, don't rely on the classics, and absolutely kick arse on stage. 🖤

Curtain call was a master piece from the Black album vinyl record, a double album actually. Curtain call should be played through a 100 watt amp with dual speakers and 12 band equaliser at near maximum volume as we did in the 1980's. Haha. You lot in the 21st century don't know what you missed and great time. haha.

Wow, it’s incredibly rare to find decent, clear footage from the Strawberries era. It was the era of beta and VHS handheld cameras (ie. short shelf life). Most of what you see from that time on YT (that wasn’t professionally filmed with state of the art technology) is blurry, garbled, and out of sync. This is a breath of fresh air. This was right around the time I saw them for the first time, maybe a bit earlier actually (I saw them in June ‘83). Bryn was on bass, brand new addition. Anyway this takes me back. This is how I remember them looking and sounding. That show was a very pivotal moment in my life. They became my favorite band in the world that night, and have remained so through thick and thin ever since. Thank you for this upload.

They were a lot of fun to hang out with backstage - like I was lucky enough to do back in 2000 - 2001. Got lucky enough to keep in touch with Patricia over the years via email and there's a photo of us on his "With Fans" page on his Facebook... I miss the mayhem and the booze! I wish everyone who wanted to really get to meet them could - they do have the meet and greet's now - but thanks to this fucked up virus - who knows when any concerts will resume. Soon, I hope...

They were always very approachable and easy to talk to at every gig of theirs I went to, except for this one big outdoor festival in 2002. Some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Especially Vanian.

I think this was filmed at Brixton Academy for Channel 4's show 'Whatever you want', I remember watching as it aired back in the day. Probably the very first year of Channel 4 (remember they didn't have enough advertisers and had to fill out their ad. breaks with swirly patterns). Other episodes of the show also had footage of the Dead Kennedys, Killing Joke, and other indie and punk bands around at that time.
