I had the pleasure of assisting Nzingha for 3 years and I can tell you that she is a superb artist with very few peers that can match her skills and talent. Anyone taking class from her is is privileged.

I did ballet at this age and am now paying the price. Wish i'd done this class- my back would be strong. These girls are a pleasure to watch- so good and having fun.

I agree, most dances are not made for performances. But there are fast high energy movements that do require a lot of technique. It all depends on the region. Africa is large continent filled with many styles of dance and music. If you think most of the African dances are calm, then that might be the only movement you were exposed to.

This routine of up tempo choreography, is very traditional (original if you will). Dont get me wrong, some may see it much often or not at all. Take Eddie Murphy for instance in "Coming To America", you may recall seeing this sort of dance when he was to meet his, "pre-arranged" wife to be (she barked like a dog loool).
