I love collecting vintage baseball cards, as well as modern and ultra-modern cards! But sometimes, you get in danger of trying to collect everything! So I decided to invent "The Dandy Dozen," which is a list of 12 cards from each era, in each sport, that I'm going to target for my collection.
It doesn't mean you have to buy the rookie cards of these players, but by buying any of their cards, their values should continue to rise, and you can work toward improving either the year of the player's card, orthe grade of the cards.
#TheDandy Dozen Vintage Baseball Cards:
Time Stamps!
0:00 Introduction
2:59 1. Mickey Mantle
3:29 2. Willie Mays
3:50 3. Ted Williams
4:13 4. Hank Aaron
4:36 5. Sandy Koufax
5:39 6. Frank Robinson
6:09 7. Roberto Clemente
7:10 8. Stan Musial
7:53 9. Ernie Banks
8:33 10. Al Kaline
9:10 11. Yogi Berra
10:23 12. Bob Gibson
11:13 My "Just Missed" List
Let me know in the comments which players I left off -- and who on this list you would replace them with!

I can't complain about that list. One of my favorites is Harmon Killebrew. I wouldn't replace anyone with him though.. maybe if you extended the list out to 20: 13. Jackie Robinson 14. Carl Yastrzemski 15. Warren Spahn 16. Eddie Mathews 17. Brooks Robinson 18. Harmon Killebrew 19. Duke Snider 20. Pee Wee Reese

Good list, Cap! Jackie Robinson I cut only because he had so few Topps cards. Warren Spahn is one of my personal favorites, but he doesn't seem to get the hobby love that the others get. Thanks for extending out my list, Cap!

Love hearing how different ages of collectors think! Back in the day Jackie Robinson was way behind Mantle and Mays. In the last 5-8 years he has surpassed all but Mantle in popularity. I'd go Mantle, Robinson, Aaron, Mays, (Aaron & Mays could be interchangeable), Williams, Clemente, Koufax, Musial, Banks, Frank Robinson, Bob Gibson - in that order for my personal collecting priority. Never been a Kaline collector. Thanks for the content!

As a black person, I am highly on Banks and Aaron (Cubs fan from NYC here...) I should have collected more vintage but affordability was the issue. I'm gonna get me some 60s Aaron and 60s Banks. I grew up a Reggie fan and I have a few non RCs and an autograph of his so I want to expand to vintage baseball (I started in 78) because basketball became my mainstay and I have some vintage of those. I'm getting my vintage in SGC and cross them to PSA. Thanks for the list and tips. I'm also a collector on a budget so thanks for keeping that in mind.
@DavidGonos

Strangely, Ernie Banks cards are pretty cheap in the ‘60s for sure. Not so much his rookie card or early cards, but man, I love Banks and have several raw that are dinged up, not worth even grading. But man, he’s fun to collect! Aaron, too, of course, but he’s pretty expensive throughout. Thanks for watching and commenting! Why do you cross the SGC vintage to PSA? They look so dang good in those tuxedo slabs, plus vintage SGC really holds their value. You should look for CSG and HGA vintage to buy and cross them over to SGC. Probably some great no -rookie deals to be found. Check out the Facebook Groups for HGA, CGS and SGC!

But I do agree with your other 12 except although I think Killebrew was better than Kaline with his 8 years of 40+ homers and 572 homers compared to Kaline's 399 and Kaline never hit 40 in a season. Well, the good news is that because the Cubs have fans everywhere due to WGN, and their general easy-to-root-for lovable loser kinda ways, I’d say Santo and Williams are more collectible than similar medium stars of other teams, like say the Brewers or Phillies. But overall, they’d likely be a few notches down from the players on this list. Maybe ranking in the 30s? Thanks for watching and commenting, Chad! I love the Cubs and have several Billy Williams cards!

@@DavidGonos That is exactly where I was thinking as well. I have just gotten back into collecting cards and have going with mostly vintage ones. Best ones I have picked up so far are a 56 Banks and a graded 5 61 Santo.

I wish I could collect all of their cards! I have been collecting Yogi Berra cards. I never watched any of the players from the era (except on youtubes), but i love him the most. One by one, whenever I can, depending on my budget. Obviously they are not I great conditions, some has stains, some has rough corners. I was just wondering do you recommend grading those? What would you do?
@DavidGonos
@DavidGonos Жыл бұрын
Well, if it’s for your own personal collection, then that’s up to you. I like to grade most of my older cards that aren’t creased bad, or have pen marks or whatever. You could also take them to a card store to see what grades they think they might get. I have a 1962 Topps Yogi Berra coming back from PSA next month hopefully, that I’m guessing will get a 3 or 4. But I’m cool with that cuz I’m going to display it with my other favorite cards. If you don’t want to spend for the grading, you can put them in magnetic one-touch protectors, and that makes them look nice too.

Yogi was a gem. I was lucky enough to meet him at a mall signing when I was 11. He spent a minute talking to each person getting an auto. To this day, I consider him to be one of the nicest people I ever met.

Was just in st.Louis for games against the Yankees and went to a memorabilia shop and the owner knew Bob Gibson ( and Lou Brock) he told me that Bob kept every single card that was sent to him to sign.
