I love this early comedy with Gloria and Bobby! Helen Bray, who plays the vamp lived to be 100 years young!

I'm a big fan. I've read Gloria's bio four times. If you haven't already the title is- Swanson on Swanson, published back in the 80's. It can still be found on amazon.

I really like silent movies and I've never seen one as difficult to understand as this one. I did some google searches and came up with 4 or 5 different plot summaries, so it looks like we're not alone. I really didn't think I was going to be able to make much sense of it, but after watching it a few times I managed to piece it together. You should watch "It" with Clara Bow, it's a lot easier to follow.

You know what I find funny? In all the old movies, when they put writing up on the screen for you to read, they leave it up for so long, giving people who can't read very fast, a lot of time to read it. Now days, it seems you have to be a speed reader as short as they leave it up.
@germanicusfink23505 жыл бұрын
I'm sure the reason they don't leave the text up very long anymore in videos is because slower readers can hit pause .

This is a romantic comedy. Gloria Swanson stars in the leading role, as a woman who wish to become a race car driver and tries to pass herself as a man hoping to reach her dreams.

So sad to see comments here from people who know nothing about silent movies. If you don't like the score that was put to this then simply MUTE THE SOUND! DUH!

Yes. I think part of the problem is that one rarely sees a Silent film as it was originally presented.

I had this on 8mm as a kid, but I missed whatever Lesbian angle there was.
@terracottapie3 жыл бұрын
It's not really a lesbian angle, she's just disguised as a man to lure the "bad" girl away from her boyfriend to protect him. Still pretty unusual for a story of that time though.

Funny you should say that... I have the same opinion, expect about talkies. Modern cinema is dead.

I am sure glad that "talkies" eventually came along. I just don't get the silent movies. I understand only about 50% of the story. And that annoying piano music in the background in horrible. Sometimes it is like watching mimes over and over. It is OK for a short time, but eventually it becomes old.

Don't worry--youre NOT alone--NONE OF US understood this waste of time "film." Don't give up on silent films just yet, they're not all bad: watch Valentino as 'The Sheik." Or Clara Bow in "IT", 1927. You will understand everything that is going on...…...

Didn't understand a damn thing with this one. Rating from one to ten, I give it a zero.
