As a metal, this is why you can never make money off of it. We are witnessing it now. Shadow said it the best, spot has to go way up and stay there for months before dealers can recalibrate and actually pay you close to that new high spot price. In my opinion, there is only 1 window, maybe 2 in everyone's lifetime when you could actually sell your physical silver for profit. I'm officially done with this metal. @@shadowstack3608 I think that's down to the individual. As long as you can make more through buying silver than savings with a traditional bank then obviously that's a better investment. I suppose the reality is that it should never be thought of as something that can be sold in an emergency but as a commodity that can be moved when the prices are at the higher end. Maybe it would be different if the banks were allowed to actually fail then silver would assume the role of currency for bartering and be more moveable than gold for smaller everyday items. I still think, going forward, that a sensible balance between gold and silver makes sense and what is happening now is a dramatic but recoverable glitch. With regards to silver in manufacturing, the demand will grow as industries in renewables are promoted - such as solar energy - so just sitting on a stash rather than dumping is preferable atm. The key is not buying silver if you really need the money for bills. Only use disposable income - however small.

If they are having a hard time keeping it in stock, and selling at $21+ then they should be paying more than the low spot rate. Very good explanation from your side! Supply and demand, that is the key when it comes to physical silver. When spot price is low, the demand from the public is crazy, so dealers can ramp up the premiums all they want. With a high spot price nobody is looking to buy your silver, so the dealers will pay you less. Thats just how the game works, a dealer is not there to blindly follow the spot price, he’s there to make money! Gold is less vulnerable to this for some reason. Like you say people are also comfortable buying it at a higher price level.

Your assumption literally makes no sense, dealers are currently paying $14.53 an ounce yet are charging $11 above that price. Gold is MUCH easier to liquidate, the demand is huge. I sold 4x 1oz Gold Britannia's to 3 buyers in the course of a week. The process was so easy. I've been sitting at 1000oz silver for a couple of years now and I am content with that amount. I won't be adding more unless I flip some and replace it with a better/lower spot option. Shadow, I remember from your videos that you don't touch stocks. Do you see that changing if the stock market continues to crash? All of them are up, Boeing up by 50% since I bought it a couple of weeks ago. But it is still early days. it is a good idea to hold a LOT of gold AND silver. When people start rushing into PM's as a store of value, which to you think the average joe can more afford, gold or silver? Silver will be the go to metal in a serious financial crash. Spot prices at that point will be out the window. They will just pile into the one which they can afford to still buy, silver.
@wagmiorngmi4 жыл бұрын
Just flog it on Ebay or gumtree for £20 an ounce. Why would you go to a dealer when you already know they're not paying you more than spot? BBP will pay you spot for silver, I've just checked their website. I've looked at several regular Ebay sellers who sells 100s of silver Brits for £21.50 incl postage - they'll be making about £17-18 after fees. They're all sold out. You could easily shift your entire silver stock without taking a loss (assuming you've bought under £17) if you are prepared to put in a bit of legwork with the listings and P&P hassle. Then you could buy gold or crypto.
@shadowstack36084 жыл бұрын
Some of the German dealers will pay way above spot for them, but I don't recommend shipping bulk these days unless dealer is covering shipping fees and insurance. The problem I have with selling large amounts on ebay is the logistics and the way ebay sides with the buyer, I do have a few ebay sellers I've worked with in the past and find collector coins best as we all get to eat a little. I found dealers the best hassle free way when they are not trying to screw you over, thinking they would pay more as demand was so high was a pipe dream.
@wagmiorngmi4 жыл бұрын
@@shadowstack3608 Fully agree with you. But the thing with the dealers shouldn't really come as a surprise. If you can sell for a tidy profit because of all the hysteria and panic over "silver running out" then you make hay while the sun shines. Business is business innit. Put yourself in their shoes : would you be buying at spot and flogging 1 ouncers for 13 or 14 quid when you can sell them all day long for £17-18 + P&P? Sucks for us canny and more astute buyers but that's just how it is. The whole Euroland supply chain halt is just adding to the problem. It's become a self-fulfilling prophecy : all the ramping in the silver community (not directed at you) about it being undervalued and how you should load the truck up has generated so much hype that when the spot price *did* drop everyone flocked to GS.BE and EuroMint, instantly cleared them out of silver and now all the dealers have seen that the demand for it is so high that they can keep their prices where they were (and even raise them), completely ignore whatever the spot is and *still* have no trouble flogging it! You can see where this is going : if silver spot price were to drop further to £5 an ounce, the demand would be even higher so the dealers would still be able to flog the stuff with similar high premiums attached, just like now. But as you've discovered, the dealers aren't buying in at any more than spot price! My suspicion for this (and that's all it is, so could be completely wrong) is that the dealers have good trade supply chains where they can buy it in cheaper than spot, so why buy it in from the secondary market reducing your profit (not to mention the logistics and time needed to check it for authenticity) when you can place a huge bulk order with the mint/refinery at a good discount and make your customers wait, knowing that they'll still be hammering your door down 3-4 weeks later when it arrives and you can flog it all at a good profit? But of course, the silver rampers will tell you that it's still a good buy at 100% over spot because "GSR" etc etc etc. Whether you buy in will depend on whether you believe the GSR argument and all the hype that surrounds it! I think many silver stackers are starting to see that they might have been lead down the garden path..... But who knows? It was a good video and talking point.

If silver shoots way up it wont matter there will always be a dealer or someone willing to buy your silver always, dealer whether the price is up or down is always focused on making a profit period, so if the price goes super high your going to have to sell your silver for less than spot but still more than what you originally paid for it

All I gotta say is if you are getting out of silver because the prices aren’t where you want them to be, then you are doing it for the wrong reasons. I won’t complain though, I appreciate the people dumping their stash of silver rn.

Nobody has to buy gold or silver. The dealers can ask whatever they want for the silver they have already have (often bought at above the current spot price) and make money on any other silver they can get their hands on at the moment. That's how the market works. I certainly wouldn't sell my silver for a crappy price at the moment, why should dealers? This is why collecting coins, gold and silver is such fun, I wouldn't have it any other way. It's your brains versus the market; the dealers play the same game we do. It's all good.
@shadowstack36084 жыл бұрын
What you say is true, but here is the problem, when you do decide to sell at a price you don't think is crappy dealers will simply shut up shop, so you may like the price but if dealers don't you won't get it. Good luck beating them at their game
@aucourant99984 жыл бұрын
@@shadowstack3608 You won't beat the dealers at their game. But I certainly wouldn't sell my silver for less than I paid for it and obviously, most other people wouldn't either. There comes a time when the price suits both you and the dealers, that's the market price. Luckily, I sold half my silver last year and bought gold with the proceeds. But, I believe both gold and silver are going to rise massively over the next few months and that's when people will start selling again. The dealers, like you and I, are in it to make as much money as we can. I don't expect them to be altruists. And it's not like they are selling essentials like medicine and people are going to die if they don't pay their hyped-up prices. In a way we're all dealers, they are just much bigger.

Great no BS advice and experience. If you're going to trade silver its tough market with heaviest rigging and manipulation of all time, so purchase some very popular primo semi collectible low mintage coin like pandas and perth mint lunars at initial introduction to market. They tend to trade up in just a few years among others.

gold all day everyday... at first i use to stack silver, but then it got too much and too heavy. i bought my first gold ounce after stacking silver for about a year and never went back to silver... golds where its at... its gods money and the metal of kings.... holding pure 24k gold in your hand is an amazing feeling. the desire for gold is built into every human and thats why i stack gold!!! gold is way more liquid than silver... gold all the way!

the true gold/silver ratio of market cap is about 15-20 not 120+ the price ratio is meaningless unless you know the total # of ounces above ground

I 👍🏼 at “Mad Max, Dooms day apocalypse times”. 🤑 personally I don’t really see bullion as an investment but a preservation of wealth. I’m more keen on stacking gold but I will still stack a little small amount of silver.

Free market on big dips and spikes. Business as usual when spot is going sideways at these prices. Great cop out clause, the buyer gets it from both ends, literally lol

If you're wanting to diversify your portfolio into more crypto and other PMs, could I make the suggestion that rather than sell to a dealer/ebay/gumtree, instead you make a video with everything you want to sell, showing their price labels and encourage people to buy from you direct via bacs, UK buyers only due to logistical reasons obviously. Being a goldbug I am naturally biased, but fwiw I honestly believe now is your best opportunity to liquidate your silver for a healthy price whilst the demand is high and the dealers are all out of stock. I strongly urge you to look at the silver britannia 1 ounce coins on Ebay and click the 'sold listings' tab to see the prices they've been selling for. There's a very real possibility that silver never sees those prices again. You have 9300 subscribers and it's likely that only a fraction of those will be aware of 'other' selling platforms (if you get my drift..) and Ebay would be their usual go-to place. Think on! Personally if I were in your position I'd be making a 'sale' video every day until it's all gone. People are literally fighting over the stuff right now because everyone is out.

That's a good point, it's just the logistics of doing small sales. I have sold monster boxes to viewers in the past and always open for larger sales. Doing the sales videos via KZbin can get the channel shut down. But I'm always open for business via Instagram
