Mum wouldn't let me watch this so I told her I was watching Dr Who

I loved this when I was a kid. My parents and my mum in particular, were appalled by it. There are times when I still do my own "danger" as I set up to do DIY, cooking or just housework. It's so wonderfully silly.

Rik and Ade were skilled physical comedians, but as with all such endeavours, they were lucky to escape with comparatively minor injuries. Oddly enough, Ade walking into the frozen shot of himself on fire and asking coyly, "Can you spot what went wrong?" is my favourite Ade line.

i think Rik said in an interview that Ade actually forgot the safeword when he was sent on fire, and everyone thought it was just part of the act for a few seconds before they realised

Filty, Rich and Catflap. The Dangerous Brothers. Bottom. If you look closely you can see the same sets being used in all three. The shop, the rooftop, and the lounge room/kitchen. Considering the sheer amount of bodily harm and property damage in these three programs, it is very impressive.

Both were also really excellent as straight actors; I saw Rick in a film that, l believe, if it were not for him, this movie would never have worked. That's how bad the script was. THe lead woman who was the protagonist had a personality that was not well matched to the role. Rick Mayel was literally the glue that kept the film together; Ade was in some really great roles among them he was a cancer patient in a 2018 revisit of "East Enders"; Really quite excellent he also played a "predator" Professor[??] in another TV series which won him much critical acclaim; Rick would have been proud of him. Rick always wanted him to take on more serious roles especially after their performances of "Waiting For Godot". Especially as they were BOTH trained actors and Rick's father, who was also a Prof. of Dramatic Arts at the U.of Manchester and trained them both. He also directed both Rick & Ade in their first foray with Beckett's "...Godot". BTW, I learned that listening to their interviews.

After watching this a few times since Thanksgiving, I realized this was a total homage to Monty Python. Especially to their sketches of the Pirahana Bros.:Doug and Dinsdale /Dinsy. We never meet Doug and Dinsy [except as a picture] we only meet their victims during the sketch. Rik and Ade became Doug and Dinsdale on some level; The reference to the use of Irony as torture is from [Michael Palin] the escort service pimp who is afraid of Doug because of his use of litotes, irony, metaphor, symbolism and .... [gasp] sarcasm!

It's a shame Ade quit comedy, hes into cooking and morris dancing these days (I'm not lying). His take on it is that he's been in comedy for 30 years and he's heard all the jokes (refers to something spike milligan said which was basically the same thing but it was in the 80s and Ade thought it was rude of spike to say so at the time, eventually he too felt that way).
