🩺ABOUT DR. BREWER
Dr. Brewer started as an Emergency Doctor. After seeing too many preventable heart attacks, he went to Johns Hopkins to learn Preventive Medicine. While there, he went on to run the post-graduate training program (residency) in Preventive Medicine. From there, he made a career of practicing and managing preventive medicine and primary care clinics. His later role in this area was Chief Medical Officer for Premise, which has close to 1,000 primary care/prevention clinics. He was also the Chief Medical Officer for MDLIVE, the second largest telemedicine company. More recently, he founded PrevMed, a heart attack, and stroke prevention clinic.
At PrevMed, we focus on heart attack, stroke, and cognitive decline. We serve patients who have already experienced an event as well as those who have not developed a diagnosis or event. Dr. Brewer provides services via telemedicine. We find a lot of undiagnosed prediabetes or insulin resistance. Treating unrecognized risk factors like prediabetes allows reduction of risk and prevention of disease.

The consequences to public health from the government’s guidelines can’t be understated. I tried for decades to get them to work, and it was a constant battle against weight gain. Switching to low carb made all the difference. BMI now 21. I just wish I’d found this earlier, before incurring so much CVD.

Congrats. What’s puzzling is the longest living populations foods are based on simple, complex and starchy carbohydrates and animal and dairy products as condiments. Studies now show sat fat may disrupt blood brain epithelial barrier. Maybe more studies are needed to really understand how food effects our body and the role of the microbiome and being non or super responders have. Newest studies show we have trillions of cells and almost as many bacteria plus being mostly water and energy (static shock.)

I live in the Philippines and processed foods have even more sugar than the US. Sausage, corn chips, and spaghetti sauce are highly sweetened for example. It is no wonder Filipinos are getting obese and diabetic. I have been teaching my girlfriend how to eat a lower carb diet, but she still goes out to get rice from a nearby sari sari store a few times a week.

So what is the healthiest way to eat? I keep seeing the lion diet, the carnivorous diet, the eat only butter diet. All of it seems ridiculous. I just want simple!

Reducing both the amount and frequency of times insulin gets released is the overarching principle.

they are simple lol.just use tallow or butter for cooking now and eat any animal products.cut out the veggies and carbs.isn't that simple?😂

Interesting comment from Layne Norton - the issue is not with the food pyramid - the issue is that people didn’t follow it…they ate too many calories, not enough fruit / veg, too much added sugar and refined fats, not enough fiber, not enough exercise etc..

very carb laidened in the Philippines? Are you crazy?? Very high in fats, grilled meats, etc. carbs aren't the problems. Refined carbs are. Stop with the refined foods and stop masking insulin resistance with a high fat diet.

It's tough going against the establishment. I was in the sport of bicycle racing for over 25 years, and an athlete diet was carbs, carbs, and more carbs.
