One of the strangest preexisting relationships Susie seems to have going into Deltarune has got to be with Toriel. According to Noelle's blog, Susie was "the new girl" relatively recently, having come from elsewhere to start attending Alphys's class. She wouldn't have had Toriel as a teacher like most of the other kids would have, and this is reinforced by the fact that Toriel was only familiar with Susie second-hand via Alphys rather than as someone she taught. And yet, Susie is somehow very familiar with Toriel. She is the only authority figure Susie ever shows respect for, and a not insignificant amount of her bullying of Kris seemed fixated on their relationship with her. And then there's the moment when they meet at the end of Chapter 2. Susie is incredibly nervous, and when Toriel introduces herself by her first name, Susie says that she remembers, which surprises her. Then, when she correctly guesses Susie's name from having heard it from Alphys, Susie is caught of guard and says "You... remember my name, too?" Susie met Toriel at some point in the past and the encounter clearly left quite the impression on her, but it was apparently unremarkable to Toriel herself, and Susie knows this, (correctly) not expecting Toriel to remember her. But as far as what we can draw from this with regards to Susie as a character goes... I've got nothing. This behavior is deliberately mysterious and occasionally outright contradictory to how Susie behaves around literally anyone else, and without the context of future chapters we just don't know what the deal is. All we know is that Susie's backstory seems a lot more significant or complicated than "has a bad home life, moved to town recently," and I am extremely excited to eventually explore it.

i like to think that she behaves like that towards toriel because toriel is the mother that she always wanted. if susie really does have a bad home life and is seemingly neglected by her parents, i don't think it's a stretch to say that susie views toriel that way. her fixation towards her and the fact that she would talk about her while bullying kris would be because she was jealous of them, because they have a good mother while she doesn't get any attention from hers at home.

@periwinkle5xgMy first thought upon having this pointed out was that Toriel is the perfect definition of stern but forgiving, with a overtone of helpfulness and sweetness. I would assume that Toriel was alongside Alphys during orientation and while Alphys's timidness made her requests/demands very easy for Susie to ignore, the same didn't apply to Toriel, and I'm sure Susie didn't have very good preconceived notions about adults, so that probably stuck with her. Then finding out about Kris's relationship with Toriel, that probably sparked a ton of jealousy. That's what I picture at least.

Man, I've never noticed how important of a role Susie was taking in the story. Her counterpoint with King was also something new to me, and really widened mu eyes

Lancer is a mirror to who Susie could become if she makes friends and King is a mirror to who Susie could become if she _doesn't_ ... ... I think the dark worlds are someone else's (cough _h i m_ cough) way of helping the people in town become better people.

If Kris and Susie don't hug after a sad/scary/haunting moment later I will be very disappointed.

I’m honestly scared to see what circumstances led to Susie feeling the need to push people away so violently at the beginning of Chapter 1, to threaten someone with actual murder at the assumption that they’ll report her. We still know NOTHING concrete about her home life, if she even has one. It’s easy to see abusive/neglectful parents as an obvious cause, but knowing Toby there’s no way it’s that simple. It’s gonna be a WAY bigger gut punch, I can just tell.

Susie is the character that intrests me the most after Kris. I am so excited to see more of her in later chapters

Susie really is an enigma that makes me speculate and think a lot about her For starters, in a realistic point of view, you wouldn't meddle with someone like Susie. No matter how tragic your agressor's life is, that does not excuse the abuse they put you trough. And surely a lot of us if were in place of Kris we'd had used the knife the first time she physically assaulted us. And then there's the fact about how she basically breaks the game in chapter 2 teaching herself and Ralsei how to act and forcing Ralsei to accompany her leaving Kris alone. Her overall personality makes me wonder and speculate if others reached out to help her but every opportunity she had to accept help she pushed them away leading to regret and her situation worsening. I mean, hell, it made me wonder if Susie even had an older sibling like Kris who tried to help her out but gave up when she refused every time. I mean, Susie seems like the type that had opportunities to receive help but denied every time which led to her current situation but who knows

@@theencolony5595 Not just the plot, but the conflict. There's this sense that Susie is just about her character arc and her bad home life. I think Susie's place in the metanarrative is that she will divert Gaster's plan and the legend will not be fulfilled. That's why Susie is an anagram of Issue. Because susie is a bug in the game, which is why metanarratively Noelle is attracted to her. Susie will be just as connected to gaster as ralsei.
