The Dark History of Gruinard Island, the Use of Anthrax in the First World War Experiments

Between the villages of Gairloch and Ullapool in the north-western highlands of Scotland, there is a small oval-shaped island called Gruinard. Anthrax is one of the best known biological warfare agents, and one of the most feared. Inhaling anthrax spores will induce flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, chest pain, and shortness of breath as fluid builds up in the cavity. If left untreated, the patient's condition quickly deteriorates, resulting in death within 48 hours.
