The Dark Knight Rises Wayne Manor Film Location: Wollaton Hall

I visited Wollaton Hall in Nottingham where it was used as Wayne Manor in The Dark Knight Rises. I have done a comparison for every shot in the movie. Where appropriate rights belong to Warner Bros. Music by Hans Zimmer.

I’ve lived in Nottingham all my life& walked many family pets regularly here, it’s very popular for events all year round. It belonged to the Willoughbys since it was built 1588, early industrial magnates, they liked the air fresher than in the city, Nottingham city council tookover& itwas used as a US army base in world war2. It has extensive caves& a industrial museum, also Gotham village is only several miles away.

As a local lad this is great to see. So many memories of this place, from childhoods at the parks with the deer, to the music festivals as a teen.

Was there last year and got a photoshoot done in full dark knight coustme it was so amazing to be walking in the footsteps of these actors and at Wayne manor

Hey Paul, thanks for taking the time to do that. I live next to the hall and walk the dog or run around it several times a week. I didn't realise there were so many shots in the movie. Someone locally said they were in the barbers and realised that Michael Caine was in the seat next to them. I only wish the Hall had done more to create some kind of exhibition there and got some of the props from the movie and even the comparison shot you have put together. That would really have enhanced it as a tourist attraction. The council who run it aren't so good at making the most of this connection.

Definitely agree with your comment about the council, absolutely useless when it come to this sort of thing. Look at the tales of Robin Hood for example - they thought it'd be better to sell that place to tesco.

What a brilliant video, thank you. We live about 4 miles away from Wayne Manor, sorry, Wollaton Hall and go there often to walk our dogs and enjoy the grounds, it's a massive place. The upper storey known as the prospect room, which was built many years later and therefore looks newer than the rest of the building, was once braced together from the inside with girders as its walls weren't strong enough to bare its own weight and threatened to collapse into the main hall, so was subsequently closed to visitors for many years. The prospect room is now open to visitors and safe from collapse but remains empty, from here you can gain access to the outer walkway which gives you breathtaking views of Nottingham and surrounding towns and villages, well worth spending a few extra £s the next time you visit. Believe it or not, as I find it hard to believe, I found a trace back in my family tree to the Willoughby’s on my Grandads' side so Wollaton Hall holds an extra special place for me and my family.

I visited Osterley Park first of all (video of that coming soon) & I realised there were a few scenes missing and was surprised as I thought all the interiors were filmed at Osterley Park too. When I visited Wollaton they had production photos showing the graveyard, kitchen, fireplace & garden party scenes. I also went on the tour & explained everything to me - it was really interesting.

Igor Perić Yes and a couple of interior shots too. It's not a castle, it's a country house. It's owned by Nottingham City Council.

What's the difference between castle and country house? How good is the view from the balcony? It is in the middle of some field with trees..

A castle is a large fortified building from the medieval period which has thick walls, battlements, towers, and normally has a moat. They were to built to control the area immediately surrounding them, and were both offensive and defensive structures, they provided a base from which raids could be launched as well as protection from enemies. A country house is a mansion in the English countryside normally on a huge estate where it is owned by individuals who are extremely wealthy or are part of an aristocratic family. The view is great from the balcony and its located at a top of a small prominent hill in a park where its open to the general public.
