the part of the book where Derk thinks three of his children are dead and his wife hates him always makes me cry

The agony of what I went through since school as far as 1997. I 've always wondered how do I find the book with cover depicting a big red dragon laying its huge body on a fine green country. I searched in vain everywhere because I could only remember the book cover and single name diana and now with easy acess to the internet I finally found it jusy today. I'm glad I'm not the only one so fond of the book fantasy stories by diana wynne jones. Back in school I never wanted to return the book.

yay! I have had a few times recently when a childhood memory pops up - then the magic of google means I can find it! I felt the same with the"homeward bounders" - I got it from the library and someone wrote at the end in pencil "this is gloomy isn't it" I then replied "yes I'm crying". Then a few years later the library had a big sale, and I managed to buy that copy for 50p, I still have it! honestly I wanted to nick it but would have felt too bad!
