I love how everyone has a different interpretation to what this song means. To me it is about someone deeply wounded by the world and in order to protect themselves they allow darkness to literally consume them. They become their worst self and lock away every bit of goodness deep inside to hide that which they view as weakness, since it hurts them. They have become their own demon with just a sliver of what they once were hidden away.
