there is an ending where, if you actually manage to kill the hero enough times without losing to much health and without entering your second phase, the hero will just give up and the dark queen will just return to her throne, and sit there, to rule, always, forever...
@DrGandW9 күн бұрын
Played it myself, there's a surprising amount of dialogue for edge cases. My favorite is when you get a phase 1 kill after he's gotten really good and he's either like, "whoops I was distracted" if he dies right before phase 2 or, "Am I even improving anymore?" If you manage to kill him before losing the first chunk of HP(pretty difficult by that point).

Reviving is canon, but so is the flow of time. The whole world is multiversal in a way, where time passes back and forth always, which is how summons are explained. It’s not a great explanation, but it’s a base level reasoning for why forgotten king kills his favorite dragon 50 times in a row

25:09 This moment right here. She literally asks him how to come back to life after he jokes that she doesn't change. Does that mean she wishes for the fight to keep going on forever so that he'll never leave? That would mean she wants to cling to her own life because she fears death. I mean she clutches his body at 24:24 because she doesn't want him to leave her. But I think there's more to it. She's hurt that he would say she hasn't changed, because she knows she desires more. Her response is asking how to be more like the hero who has hope and is an unstoppable force. When beaten, she admits defeat, because she believes things can't be changed, and it was her defeat that was inevitable. But that's not the point. It wasn't a fight over who would win in battle, it was a fight about whether or not an immovable object could be moved. And she has. Her dying form is not that of a hideous monster that represents her twisted emotions and suffering, it's that of someone who almost appears to be crying. It's about moving on, which she does. And she finally leaves her throne when the hero absorbs her power and carries her in his memories. It's a good ending for the both of them. Truly it's beautiful writing. Even though I wish there was a marriage ending lmao

This video perfectly shows the difference between growth mindset and fixed mindset, why and how fixed mindset seduces us, and why and how growth mindset is the more resilient of the two. So many kids grow up being told how smart they are, how good they are - and then they fuck up, as we all do, and suddenly they doubt that. Now they think, I wasn't really smart at all, I was stupid. I wasn't really good at all, I was bad. But that isn't true. They, as all of us are, are a process. They started out doing things they knew they how to, but we always have the potential to learn and grow. Don't tell your kids how proud you are that they're smart or good - tell them how proud you are that they worked hard, they did good, they figured it out. And tell yourself, too.

this is one of the most compelling stories ive seen told by a game of this genre, absolutely beautiful work of art, her walls being breaking down and being humbled by the hero’s empathy and perseverance. Amazing❤

true, but at the same time she cannot leave this hall she cannot return once defeated she cannot adapt to the hero's adapting Against anything else, she is supreme but against one who is ever changing, her pre-set powers, speed, damage are all futile

This tugs at me a little bit. Many times I play a Dark Souls game or Elden Ring and I keep thinking what if you could save the villains or change them for the better and still live. And I don't speak for the unforgivable lot. I mean the ones who seem like they could've been good people before tragedy struck their world.

The emotion this gives of reminds me of underhero. Very melancholic, very meta, similar character motivations (especially for the antagonists). It's worth checking out

this concept is cool, imagine someone make an actual game that instead of you being the protag going for the bosses, you are THE boss, running around the world and making preparation for the incoming doom. also after a certain ammount of encounters you meet your demise or straight up denied the defeat, thus force the protag to change into some special dialogues or situation

This game is a lot like reversary. In both games you are also a soullike boss that has to keep fighting a hero until you lose, and as you keep fighting your character and the hero get to know each other and even bond a bit. But what makes this connection even stranger is that the boss in reversary mentions an empress (the boss in the dark queen is mostly described as a queen but is also referred to as an empress at different points.) that they serve which is implied to be the final boss of the game that the hero is playing in reversary.
@GoddessShadowYT7 күн бұрын
being the final boss is stressful when u know the hero comes back *nigh endlessly* after being defeated (alongside getting smarter & adaptive) on what killed him before the 1st time.

I love the random storytelling in the blood. In the very beginning it's only on the heros side, but the very first one that deviates...is right where queen stands after each bout. Every time she looks back at the hero, they're both standing in the hero's blood. And in the middle of the video roughly, there's a other splotch. Right between them.
@KingofAwesomness144 күн бұрын
this game actually touches upon the fact that the main character can't die so its just the final boss trying to figure out what to do and how to conclude a story she can't come to terms with. I feel bad for the queeny here. That's for sure.

I really like this game idea. Playing as multiple bosses in the game the protagonist has to defeat. Having a fixed move sets as the boss with cooldowns so you use them at specific times (like to bait out the AI protagonist attacks). And the AI grow stronger and smarter each time you defeat them, making the game like trying to kill the protagonist as much as you can as a score before they defeat you.

Wow. I wasn't expecting this to be genuinely heartfelt. The plucky attitude of the hero was honestly kinda inspiring.

The philosophies in this are very interesting. I think it also exposes flaws in souls boss combat. Rather than being fair and balanced, it's about you retrying so much to deal with the "gotcha" moments. There is something to be said about what the queen utters at 4:15. I think good boss fights don't have to rely on cheapness so much. Like, "oh ho, you didn't know I could do this and now you are dead." A fight then isn't because of skill but instead about memorization and the only barrier to winning is time.
@normalguycap6 күн бұрын
and at 11:54. Very interesting. This is why I prefer games like Nioh and Devil May Cry because it's about how well you can beat them using all your abilities, a much higher skill ceiling. Beating a boss in souls has much less satisfaction because of how rigged it is. You don't feel as good because they, usually unfairly in the modern games, beat you so much in like 2-3 hits. So when you finally beat them once, it doesn't feel earned, it doesn't feel repaid. If a fight is 30-1, do you really feel good about it? And since the only barrier to beating a souls boss is time, that rigging shifts and I feel it's the worst of both worlds. If their winning at the start is inevitable and my winning later is inevitable, what's the point?
@normalguycap6 күн бұрын
Infinite respawns is the highest cheat code power imaginable lol. I remember that Akasha guy vs Rengoku in Demon Blade. It takes no skill at all to throw your limbs away, eventually you'll win because your opponent will get tired slicing you to ribbons. Or that comic with Homelander confronting that ceo and he's all unimpressed because Homelander is doing nothing more than what a baby could also do if they were given the same powers. Fascinating stuff.
@normalguycap6 күн бұрын
The hero also "likes" it, that "dance" but only because they cannot truly die. Otherwise they would face absolute horror. If they weren't actually safe from the most final 'game over' possible I doubt it would be enjoyable, especially being so weak facing something so strong. It would be super interesting to see a true fight where your opponent learns from you too. It's easy when your boss is static. It's more horrifying and the hero would have far less confidence/bravado about fighting.
@normalguycap6 күн бұрын
20:58 oof. Suddenly the hero isn't such an underdog after all. They were secret jesus from the start.
