We'll get the best of both worlds. One Piece WILL end, but it will have a damn good ending and will be a satisfying conclusion, especially considering that Oda has known how he's wanted the series to end since the beginning and in 25 years that has not changed, so it's bound to be a banger. After which Oda can finally be with his family and get some much, MUCH needed rest. Nothing but absolute respect for this madman.

I feel like he's definitely hit the brakes on his work ethic these last few years. There's so many week long breaks in between chapters lately. He's not really pumping them out weekly anymore. Which I hope means he's taking better care of his health. This man deserves to live a long time.

Its been going on for a while now yeah.. and honestly, I hope he starts taking breaks after every chapter. Bi-weekly one piece is enough for me. If I recall correctly, this decision was implemented after he was hospitalized from overworking. Nowdayas he takes break after 3 chapters, but you must understand that this week off is still not really off-off. Man helps with other one piece stuff, anime, movies, specials whats have you.. Its kind of charming isn't it? The biggest one piece nerd of them all is the author himself

I think it's unfair to blame Oda for the crimes of his former boss. And to expect him to pretend like he didn't enjoy working with him is unfair as well. Oda did nothing wrong and he is justified in saying what he did.

Well said. He's not guilty of the wrongdoing of anyone else, especially since he certainly did not seem to know of anything of the sort going on. It's just western, leftist outrage that always seeks to burn everything to the ground, regardless of nuance.
@lasernatoo0
@lasernatoo0 Жыл бұрын
I would share this opinion if all he did was reminisce fondly. But in 2021, after Watsuki somehow resumed serialization of the series again in 2018, Oda gave this message for a Rurouni Kenshin exhibition happening at the time: "Watsuki-sensei has an amazing personality. People love "Rurouni Kenshin" probably because of his seriousness toward his fans. Fans fully understand it, which is why they love Watsuki-sensei. Hopefully he will draw manga forever." This message is far less excusable.
@Poet482
@Poet482 Жыл бұрын
@@lasernatoo0 Is that the message that people were so upset about? He's not praising the guy for what he was convicted of, so what's the problem? It's not like they were incredibly close friends, more like Oda was highly appreciative of his time spent with him on a professional level, and that they got along. He's not worshiping the man. People are just looking for reasons to be upset. It's the cancel culture mindframe that simply seeks to burn the world down without understanding of nuance.
@lasernatoo0
@lasernatoo0 Жыл бұрын
@@Poet482 He's literally saying that he hopes Watsuki (who was caught with so much CP the police thought he was a distributor, and faced no jail time) will continue to be given a platform and continue creating manga forever. That's the bad part. He should be in prison, and the last thing he should be given is any kind of platform.
@Poet482
@Poet482 Жыл бұрын
@@lasernatoo0 Again, this sounds more directed at the culture over there, and not Oda, himself. Obviously, Watsuki should be in jail for quite some time, as his crimes are dreadfully awful, but raking Oda over the coals for a crime he did not personally commit is rediculous. Oda simply appreciated how his time with the man changed his life for the better.

Just a clarification: Japanese is a tricky language. This "i hate oda" interview with Kubo was done in a Radio show, with light joking mood, like "oh man, i didn't believed it!" not like "I really don't like this Oda guy." It is the SAME Oda said in a recent interview with Detective Conan's author, he said he "hated other authors, that they didn't deserve to beat Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X in the ranking", also saying he viewed them as "enemies" But again, just text translation doesn't get the nuances, tones, etc Kubo isn't the most outgoing mangaka, he's very private with his personal life and friendships. They are not friends, but not also hate each other, Oda even invited him to eat bbq. Please don't stir drama between them...

It's very typical for mangaka. It's not a 9-5 job, Kishimoto's brag about taking a walk with his kid was quite literal and his weekly schedule was posted online after Naruto finished. Mangaka have significantly shorter lifespans than the Japanese average, and almost all develop serious health issues due to the work schedule. Some of them are more open than others about their health issues. Kubo and Togashi for example have talked extensively about it, Toriyama has brought it up too. Oda is a bit unique in that he has both the clout and the willingness to give himself a (small) amount of time these days with One Piece officially being on a 10 day rather than 7 day production schedule which apparently allows him to now take a full day off every week, something quite rare in their industry.

I I think there's a lot we can all learn from oda's career and work schedule it makes me wonder if someday someone will be able to make an improved version of that routine to get even better results by using the knowledge form oda's schedule to make one more suited for themselves which I think would be pretty cool to see.

There's nothing to learn in reality. Oda is part of a very rare breed of people who are compulsively obsessed with something. It's like a mental illness, even if it's one that works well for him. Unless you have it too, forget about it. 99.99% of people would never be able to work the way he does and would probably end up dead from it. Either way, it's super unhealthy and he'll pay for it one day (and even if he somehow doesn't, just think about everything he's missing out, like his daughter's entire life for example).

@@misterwhyte while it is true that some people are seemingly Born blessed with a mindset for success it's also true that people can change their mindset so even though oda is blessed with a good mindset that just shows the rest of us a certain mindset that works which will make copying it and even improving upon it easier cuz now we know the right way to succeed or at least you have some hints
@misterwhyte
@misterwhyte Жыл бұрын
@@izzymosley1970 It's not a mindset for success, it's a mental illness. For Oda it turned out to have made him a successful artist but you don't hear about the countless others who crashed and burned. Trust me mate, there's nothing to learn from the schedule of someone who sleeps 3h/night and has to be forced to eat. Also, don't trust the countless KZbin influencers who'll tell you about sleeping 5h and other BS. You want to be successful? Just find something you want to be successful at, focus on that 100% and treat your body well by sleeping and eating properly, and also by exercising daily. Eventually you'll get there.
@izzymosley1970

@@misterwhyte there is something to learn from oda's life and mindset because his career is public knowledge that means if someone was able to do something similar they would be able to get similar results just like any other training regimen do you know how someone else trained that means you can make your own version of that training to get similar results.

Even though I may never get to meet this man. I’m glad I stumbled upon the story he’s created. The impact his work has had on the world is immeasurable. I’m glad that I was alive to be witnessing history being made. Thank you God for giving life to this man and blessing him with the skills and talents to spread his work. I’ll never forget One Piece for as long as I live. It undoubtedly changed my life for the better. Oda lives everything he teaches us in his story. His work ethic and success is the embodiment of everything One Piece is about. He focused on his dreams, made a decision that if he dies going for them, then it’s alright. And that’s reflected in everything he does. Oda, you’ll never see this, but thank you for everything. I wish nothing but the best. And fans, let’s continue on the journey. It’s almost over so let’s enjoy every single moment with no regrets! 7/14/23 6:05 PM

As someone who couldn't get into one piece when the English dub came out in the early 2000s. I decided to watch then read the series this year. The pacing is really bad in a lot of ways in the anime but there isn't really any wasted story or flub besides the Sanji troupe which was kinda funny when he found mermaids at fishmen island but still kinda over kill but whatever. Story is foreshadowed and connected quite well. Characters development and world development is superb. As someone who doesn't have one piece nostalgia this is still a touching and great story.

I'm a mangaka myself and also a big fan of Oda's work. Unfortanatelly the whole overwork thing is a problem foreign mangaka like me take over into new territories. Most of my German, Austrian or Swiss colleagues sacrificed their work life balance to publish as many books a year as possible. Pure stupidity but you can't switch this behavior off that easy.

Y’all think Kuma becoming a mindless machine had something to do with Oda’s mindset? Also, isn’t it odd how the main theme of one piece is “freedom”, but Oda is the least free man in Japan?
@aestheticfox3
@aestheticfox3 4 ай бұрын
I thought about Kuma as well! And also Bonney's situation if you are caught up (I'm only caught up with the anime tho lol) In a way, you indeed could say he is the least free man in Japan. Although, he's willingly chasing his dream and it's becoming a reality despite the huge sacrifices (kinda like some certain characters we know lol) I guess whether he finds it a priviledge or not is something we can't be entirely sure of But it's actually quite hard to define freedom. Some people argue in philosophy that the mere fact of chasing your dreams and sticking to them inherently takes away your freedom. But I digress lol, thx for making your comment!

Oda is Morden day Valmiki. Valmiki wrote Mahabharat the greatest spiritual saga ever. There are so many characters but somehow they all interlock each other and no character is meaningless. Similarly oda's created so many characters and somehow they all have meaning and important role down the road. Like little red Toy character in derosara, who turns out to be father of girl. And the villian with baby clothes who seems ridiculous at first but then later when story unfold it made everyone heart cryout loud, I didn't expect any of that. That's the beauty of one-piece. And not many people can write that kind of story. I wish Oda for good health and keep continuing the greatest work.

5:40 Oda's pseudonym is actually quite interesting. It is just the days of the week (Monday to Saturday). It would be the equivalent of something like "Montues Wednesthurs Frisat" in English. 20:13 Also 'Karoshi' actually entered the English dictionary in 2002 (although the actual Romanization should be 'Karoushi' (過労死)).
