THE DARK SIDE OF JAPAN'S HOMELESS IN SANYA, TOKYO | INDIAN IN JAPAN

Japan has one of the lowest homelessness rates globally, with fewer than 0.003% of its population living on the streets. This reflects the strength of Japan’s social welfare systems and its distinct cultural approach to addressing homelessness.
Yet, there is one area called Sanya where nearly all of Tokyo’s homeless reside. In this video, my goal was to explore why Sanya persists, who lives on its streets, and what the future might hold for this contrasting part of Tokyo.
Japan is truly one of my favorite places on earth, and after visiting this country 11 times, I’ve never encountered streets like those in Sanya. It’s a gritty neighborhood with a history tied to day laborers and marginalized groups. Today, hundreds of homeless men can be seen gathering in a worn-down park, playing board games, and resting in makeshift tents. Surrounding alleys are lined with extremely low-cost hostels for about $10 per night-the cheapest in the city but not somewhere I’d recommend staying.
Walking through Sanya feels surreal, and it’s a reminder of the importance of not ignoring homelessness-even in a country like Japan.

Bro I have a suggestion, I don't know if it is legal, safe and right but consider it. In your previous video you have shown a few boxes of clothes that you labeled to donate in India. My suggestion is why don't you donate some of the clothes to these poor people in Japan? Return some favor to the Japan, that gave you a lot in your career. After all we are all human. I liked the Granny who was in this video talking to Anna. Sure would love to see the other slums areas. Another Suggestion, if it is safe, try to sit and talk with such people to know why they are living on streets and what's their stories.
