I wanted to take the opportunity to say Kimbyrleigha and I talked on the phone last Tuesday, I shared my perspective with her and she shared her perspective with me. Kimbyrleigha refunded Mary Beth and has shown that she wants to move forward with her content and life and I respect that. Behind the scenes drama as well as personal life stress has really taken a mental toll on me lately and I'm currently working on myself and recovering from it all. I hope everyone will be able to find peace and resolution and my current focus is on some awesome content I'm working on and planning out. Hope everyone enjoys this video!!

The other day Ben Shapiro reacted to a video and literally said 'This woman is criticizing capitalism, but look at what she's wearing!" she was wearing like. an old grey hoodie and had a cheap bag. Don't worry everyone, I really did let Madison speak, I swears... We actually talked for almost 2 hours! 😂 My thoughts: 1. I'm still upset the reporter did not remove the pic of you as a minor, even after you and I emailed her asking to have it taken down/replaced. I find it very disturbing. (For anyone asking why we didn't go above her and reach out to The Atlantic's editor, Jeffery Goldberg - we considered it until we learned of a Vox article about him titled, "Jeffrey Goldberg Claims White Men Are Best At Writing Stories." 🙄 The article was appalling, and fearing our inquiries would be ignored, we didn't bother reaching out.) 2. I still CANNOT with the Scientology-sponsored Atlantic article (how embarrassing). 🤣 3. After bashing anti-MLM merch, saying we use clickbait, and that "the incentive structures of KZbin seen to be rewarding anti-MLM content right now," I wondered why the reporter didn't mention that I don't sell *any* merch or memberships. I plan to sell merch some day and think creators have *every* right to, but I feel it was interesting what the reporter cherry picked for this article... Thanks so much for having me, Madison! I had fun talking with you, and really liked hearing Savy and Heather's take as well. P.S. I talk so damn fast, holy cow. P.P.S. I want blue hair. 😭 Yours is sooo pretty.

And this is why even though I’m a journalist by degree I despise that entire genre of profession as a whole most of the time they don’t care about getting the genuine story they only care about spinning their own narrative for profit. It seems like the DSA might have paid for the Atlantic article, and maybe the author wasn't really trying to do a good job but rather sought to be controversial and perhaps even self-sabotaging.
@bowwowschild3 жыл бұрын
Completely disagree. Mainstream media sure, but local newspapers, TV stations and public radio strive to get it right. I've been a reporter for over a decade now and I can tell you majority of the profession doesn't have a narrative, they're just trying to get the facts right. What upsets me is now ANYONE can call themselves a journalist without ever having stepped into a newsroom and are simply calling themselves that based off of their degree and a few classes. It completely ruins the once respected title of journalist. SMH.
@johncaccioppo11423 жыл бұрын
49:11 SAVY actually discusses the narrative thing in part. Narrative is necessary for getting the audience's attention. Narrative can be crafted to fit an agenda and it almost always is with important exceptions such as serious scientific writing and authentic journalism. But even in those instances, the bias is still present despite the author's claims because we still live in a world largely ruled by wealth and the status it imparts. Where we can focus your assertion of money-grabbing is the simple problem of capitalism. So long as people have to work to live, which can be seen as a pre-capitalistic reality, people are going to have a financial agenda that will tend to subvert their ethics, and the less aware they are of the problem, the more likely it is they will submit to those instincts if they haven't crafted for themselves a sacrificial ethic.

@JannaWillard3 жыл бұрын
A big problem in journalism today is the lack of objectivity. You can't read ANY articles or watch ANY newscast and know that you're getting the real story. There's always bias, always an angle. Reporters allow their personal opinions to seep into their writing. That's fine for commentary, but not for reporting... not even for investigative journalism, which doesn't really exist anymore. There is also a big problem with overgeneralization. It goes in all directions, too. First we have people assuming that one person who who is part of a community is representative of all people who are part of that community. Then we have people assuming that broad statements about a group of people are meant to apply to every member of the group. Neither assumption is true! One person is not representative of an entire community, and one statement about a group of people is rarely meant to apply to the entire group. A generalization is, by its nature, an "average"; there will always be outliers.

This kinda makes me think of the people who misunderstand the BLM movement. People like my parents once thought, and done may still think, that BLM is a centralized highly orchestrated organization when it's just a belief, a passion, a movement. They think there's a core group pulling all of the strings, manipulating, but it's individuals banding together for a common purpose. There are organizations to help coordinate and support the movement but you don't have to be involved in the organized portions to believe and spread the message. Anyone could advocate for change in their own way. Everyone can speak out against our broken culture. Anyone can be a voice demanding change and accountability.

I ended up receiving a ton of instagram and twitch followers after that comment.. strange.. then TONS of instagram messages from huns telling me how wrong I was. My youtube page has my twitch linked, which links to my instagram. For people to dig that deeply into who I was, to contact me and 'set me straight' over such a benign comment on some random person's video, instead of, you know, responding to the comment like a normal person, pretty much confirmed this was a paid/planted piece

I think the old media is on it's way out. They had been needed back when we did not have tools to broadcast our truth, each and every one of us. Now we do. When I can't witness a thing with my own eyes, even while I am a capitalist, I will always choose to observe the truth of another person rather than a corporation. And the decline in viewership/profit seems to be driving them to make bigger and bigger mistakes as your video shows. Excellent reporting, thank you :) .

I kinda hope the article had consequences. I'm not saying the author should be fired, perhaps the deadline was too short (apparently there was still time to look for a rather small and old reddit post) or she needed something that garners more views and she wrote what gets the most attention in her opinion. Maybe she just trusted Kymbers retelling too much. I just think that in cases like this a serious conversation from employer to employee is needed.

I really liked this 2-part series. I particularly liked that it wasn't a "this publication wrote something I don't like" kind of video but an actual analysis of the article in question, of the publication and of the industry in general, all framed within the topics you cover which are unfair and shady business practices (in this case, native advertising). You managed to give context and reason to your dislike of the article while also pointing out what went wrong and what could've been done to be better. Another thing that made this series very valuable was the inclusion of other voices involved to give their perspective on the issue. That is always a plus. The only thing I would've loved to see included as well would've been an interview with the journalist. I'm sure her perspective would've been a very interesting one to include, but I realize it might have been a bit hard to get her on board maybe because of scheduling issues or maybe because of contractual ones. Anyway, congratulations on these two videos, they were very informative. I hope you can get that picture of you as a minor taken out of the article.

Honestly the first time I read this article, by the way it was written and the fact that the journalist was pretty much sharing her opinions, I immediately thought this must be a sponsored article. We won't know for sure but I'm glad to see you've mentioned that this happens a lot if journalism Good video as always my dear 🙂

This is why I quit journalism school :/ the field seems to be largely about narrative-building rather than accurately reporting a story nowadays. It saddens me a lot.

Just got a fucking ad for beachboss influencers during this video. They have no shame. i did vector/cutco and didnt realize it was an MLM until now.🤦🏼♀️ I felt so weird trying to sell this stupid shit to people..it felt super predatory.. she said thesaurus 🤣 I loved watching SO MANY super intelligent women have a logical productive conversation..ive been watching Josie the last few weeks and she's amazing, just like you Madison. U both do such great work. Heather was great too, I love how she talks and her energy. SAVY TOO! my god this is amazing.

Thanks for sharing this video on unethical practices of journalism. I love the way you showed the guidelines of unethical behaviour. Another great documentary that exposes journalism is called “Manufacturing Consent” This documentary completely blew my mind and totally explained and predicted a lot of the reasons the public is losing the trust in the media. Hope you are able to come to a resolution with this writer. Have a good day😊

I love how long this video is. It is interesting to see how much of your videos are full of information that is not commonly known by most people. Our governments, our consumer agencies and our elected officials have not been doing enough. It is wild that it is necessary for you to make these videos. I am very thankful that in this crazy intense world, we were able to have this crazy thing called KZbin.

I was never in a MLM but I've done things that make MLMs blush. I'm not the least bit afraid or ashamed of talking about it. I often do when it comes into conversation. I do it to make sure people do not fall for the tricks and scams corporations employ. I did what I did to learn their tricks, their tactics and rhetoric, so I could not only be immune to them but help others defend themselves.

This was really really good. Amazing work, a full on documentary. I can’t believe content this good is free 😅 I love listening to Savy talk (in a non creepy way lol). The way she breaks things down and she always notes what she likes about the topic even if overall she hates it (like grant cardone, ha). She’s incredibly intelligent. Josie also always does amazing research and nails her productions. Thanks to all 3 of you for doing this . Also: I’d love to learn more about the shadiness of the DSA. I don’t think anybody’s really done a deep dive on it? And I also wonder if this reporter that wrote the article will ever see this video or get wind of it and maybe finally reply to you. 🧐

She wrote the article because she wanted the clicks and knew y’all would talk about it. She’s saw the power of the anti-mlm and knew it would be easy to provoke the community.

I spent a week at an airbnb and they ended up being scientologists and I didn't even realize until the first morning. They were......... odd. The guy was an absolute donkey to his wife and there was some guy who lived in an RV with the wife in pre covid times (??????) They told me I was not allowed to take pictures of their book collection and i saw a security camera in the room. (??????????) So many more weird things

I’m pretty sure the reporter,as y’all expressed , had already written the story focused on the MLM that most importantly “to her”wherein she had framed herself as specific market aimed style of Journalist. And conducted the interviews as an afterthought, never in 1 million years realizing the personalities she interviewed so easily surpassed her intellect and eclipse her effort , let alone realize her article overall end question and thought would have been wrapped up and answered so effortlessly by a girl she’d only thought of as a pawn that she had already framed into a personality and voice that she felt best brought relevance to her article. Good work ladies, y’all are so brilliant and well spoken while shutting down these multi industry dirt bags.
@xemiiklera2 жыл бұрын
My boyfriend studied journalism and that is exactly what they do, they already know what words and phrases have more “punch” and if you don’t say things they want you to say they will ask directly with a yes or no question and then quote you as saying it yourself, is common practice and it would be nice people knew before being interviewed, journalists are after all kinda telling a story and they have the story already, they just need validation from the interviewees so they will try to get you to say what they want.

“ divide and conquer “ the Ant- MLM is the purpose of the Atlantic article….where you ladies now have to defend yourselves and even argue among yourselves, instead of focusing on anti-MLM content. Keep up the great work!
@kaylanbray3813 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the journalist was either paid off by someone high up in an MLM that is feeling very threatened by the anti MLM creators or she is herself apart of an MLM be because she’s her job as a journalist doesn’t pay her well or doesn’t make her feel like a boss babes the way her MLM does. Just my opinion 🤷🏻♀️
