Glorfindel had his small cameo- he appears beside Elrond at Aragorn's coronation. Thranduil became this cold because he CARED too much, LOVED too much, not because he didn't care. It's funny how sometimes there is the same result for two completely different attitudes... I think Legolas' mother could be Silvan's elf- maybe that is why Thranduil opposed so strongly to Legolas's friendship with Tauriel??? Because he didn't want him to be heartbroken as he is? An illogical form of PTSD (if PTSD could be logical...) Yeah, what Thranduil saw at the battle in Dale probably was also that elves' fate is not death, they are supposed to live. They ASSUME they have all the time in the world. How devastating it was for him to see many of his subjects, who he most probably knew from birth, dead? Dead in yet another battle... He was likely also thinking about what king he was to lead the people, who chose him for their king, to a battle, to the death? For me, to realize this is chilling to the bone. Thranduil and Legolas are complicated figures, I feel like they are much more complex than Elrond or Galadriel.

A very good comment. Sadly, relative to the actual canon this movie scene is so far from the “truth”. If the movie was indeed canon, which they aren’t to me, then your comment is perfectly in keeping with the Peter Jackson version.

I disagree only that others, especially Elrond, are less complex. Let's not forget that Elrond is actually a half elf, and during the time the books took place, he was the only one in existence. He's lost a lot of family and loved ones.

I dont think Legolas ever actually loved Tauriel. Elves marry through sex. So Legolas could have had her at any time he wanted and parents have very little say if who their adult children desire for a spouse. Throughout the movie, yes, he does seem to get jealous of Tauriel and Kilis budding romance, but he doesn't actively try to interrupt them or compete for her attention. I think his feelings was more discust toward Kili simply because he is a dwarf, trying it on with his teutenant basically and thinks its discusting and vile. He never tried to flirt with her when they were alone. He never made any hints, subtle or not, that he was interested in her. He never made a single move on her. I think the romance was more on Tauriels side, but as a common silvan elf, she rightly believed Legolas, a sindarin prince, was waaaay out of her league, which he was.

But when Thranduill says that Tauriel has been exiled and Tauriel says that Legolas has to go without her because the king commanded it, Legolas literally says: “yes he is my king but he does not command over my heart!” So he was in love with Tauriel!

People don’t like Legolas’’ inclusion into the Hobbit films but I disagree. However, his crazy stunts and wild acrobatics and the cringe love triangle aren’t welcome. I do like the background around him and Thranduil though, that adds depth in a meaningful way. If I were to change Peter Jackson’s films in terms of Legolas, I would just keep him to a prince and perhaps an Intelligence agent like he was and then of course a bloody good, but not over the top theatrical stunt fighter.

The addition of Legolas to the Hobbit movies (which, in my opinion, should have been two movies maximum) was one of the only things I had no real objection to. He could have been there and is even hinted to have been when you consider that Gloin said, "You were less tender to me." Now I don't think he was speaking of Legolas in particular, but of the Greenwood elves in general. That being said, the Elven king has no name in the Hobbit as Tolkien couldn't decide whether to make him Thranduil (as he eventually became) or another equally famous king of the elves, but I can't remember if it was Thingol or Gilgalad.

Let's be honest if Glorfindel had been apart of the fellowship, in some ways it would have made the journey easier he is a very powerful character and if not the most powerful, one of the most powerful elves in middle earth. The few remaining elfs who lived in Valinor already had an extra power boost over elfs who never were there and even amongst those in the first age he was deemed powerful. Then he died and was returned to middle earth with another power boost. So he would have been a very over powered character travelling with the fellowship. Maybe he would have stood back and not stepped in too much and just was there for the final defense or he could've made everyone but Frodo seem useless and the story less interesting. Then there is the flip side because he is so powerful and Sauron knew it, he power very likely could've drawn the various forces to them completely nullifying the whole secret mission.

¨he is a very powerful character and if not the most powerful, one of the most powerful elves in middle earth¨ and i think that is actually good reason for him not to go with fellowship, since Sauron would keep close eye to someone as powerful as Glorfindel so journey might have been even harder

Teleri were blonde. Also, in the book written by Tolkien, Thranduil's hair is discribed as "golden". NO ONE knows the color of Legolas's hair. But most, including Peter Jackson, presumed it was blonde. As were the majority of the Sinarian elves, who were decended from the Teleri. P.S. did you know that Galadriel's mother was a Teleri, and it was from her she inherited her silver blonde hair.

Actually, Thraduil was one of the Sindar who ruled over the Silvan (Teleri) elves of Mirkwood. Since nothing is known about Legolas' mother, she may have been either from the Sindar or the Teleri people.
