For those who didn't get the intro to "The Belfry" portion of the iceberg, when he says "we were being followed", he refers to the fact that up until this point, you could see a hidden Pursuer in some parts of the video. @remilenoir1271 you're not wrong :/ . I guess it's just wishful thinking on my part. The whole soul series has such a tasteful way of adding just enough story to really broaden the imaginary scope of their world. Velka's not so invisible hand was always an interesting bit of lore I wish we got more of, but I can't complain too much when the lost son of Gwyn is something that paid off. The lore feels like a tree with very thick leaves, you have to get very close too see all the branches.

The Dark Souls Trilogy is truly a series that redefines what lore is in a video game The Hidden Mysteries the vague item descriptions the world-building pieced together by those item descriptions .... steeped in symbolism everything has a meaning and everything is there for a reason
@zeroattentiongaming820
@zeroattentiongaming820 Жыл бұрын
It could be argued that the trilogy is still the peak of From's work in that regard. Demon's Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro each being standalone games don't have nearly the amount of lore, nor the cross game connections. Elden Ring damn well might have enough lore to match the trilogy but it's so convoluted it makes everything else they've done seem simple and straightforward in comparison. The trilogy has enough contextual clues to make very strong guesses to most every mystery presented, something I don't think could be said for Elden Ring in its current state. Once we have DLC that could very much change like it did with Bloodborne, but for now Dark Souls lore stands unmatched imo.

I like the idea of Gwynevere leaving Anor Londo to marry Flann, a God of Fire, to build Heide, a copy of Anor Londo, and to protect it they created their own version of Gwyndolin's Blades of the Darkmoon, the Blue Sentinels. I'd like to assume that some of the silver knights and Sentinels left with Gwynervere to protect her and once she and Flann had created their own city they were given their new armor and weapons to differentiate them from Anor Londo, with silver knights dropping shields for a more aggressive fighting style and the Sentinels obviously becoming the "Old Knights".
@Rahnonymous
@Rahnonymous Жыл бұрын
Wait, this could actually explain why there's a dragon right outside the Old Dragonslayer's boss room. Knowing Gwynevere being previously wed to Seathe, she could have grown fond of dragons, and denied the knight from slaying it.
@matthewarchibold40
@matthewarchibold40 Жыл бұрын
@@Rahnonymous There's no indication that Seathe and Gwynevere were ever wed. Even the best proof they had any connection: Priscilla, is far more likely the daughter of Seathe and the Firekeeper in Duke's Archives, or even the goddess of sin Velka.

31:29 Small trivia that I've learned while watching Abyss1ne's DS3 Alpha videos, originally Archdragon Peak was meant to be connected to Lothric Castle by a bridge, but was latter changed in the final version, and the entry to this bridge was almost certainly the one that in the retail version leads to the Untended Graves.

I have a theory about the lordvessel in Dark Souls 2. In the first game, it is given to (or forcibly taken by) the undead that has undergone the trials of the twin bells, Sen's Fortress and the derelict Anor Londo, setting them well on the path to rekindling the first flame. Upon receiving it, what invaluable ability is unlocked? The capacity to fast travel to any bonfire you have rested at. And what can you do in Dark Souls 2 from the very start? Fast travel. I hypothesise that the ability to use the bonfires as a magical highway was blocked off by the gods of Anor Londo and shackled to the Lord vessel, keeping a powerful asset from near all of humanity save whoever held the lordvessel itself and was subsequently acting in the benefit of the gods, if all was going to plan. Come Dark Souls 2, and the lordvessel is destroyed and discarded, and travel between bonfires is readily accessible to all those who travel the lands, not just the puppet of the gods. I don't know why it would be in the Majuula manor, except maybe to just set the tone right from the start that the old ways are dead.

If we are talking about the origins of FROM SOFTWARE rpg's then Demon Souls wouldn't be even close. Anyone remember Eternal Ring. Came out in 2000, and the best part is, there are major references to Eternal Ring throughout the entire Soulsborne franchise. From item cameos to returning character names, not to mention the clear reference between the names of Eternal Ring and Elden Ring. I just think the commitment to their roots is commendable, they never forgot.

The idea of the painted world being Bloodborne is definitely something I had thought of, but what I find more compelling is the idea that maybe Bloodborne comes from the dreams/nightmares of Aldrich. Aldrich dreamed of the Deep, and if the Deep is indeed akin to that of an ocean it makes me think of the ocean next to the Fishman's Village. The theme of a corrupt religion or church is prevalent in Aldrich's story and at the center of everything in Bloodborne. If Aldrich does gain memories of those he consumes then it may also explain how there are some things that are similar to the Dark Souls series, but not the same (Patches the Spider, the Moonlight Greatsword). The ideas of man trying to fight back against beasts could be a representation of trying to quell one's hungers (hunger literally, but also hunger for family with the themes of motherhood and children all throughout Bloodborne, hunger for knowledge shown in the scholars, hunger for power shown in the hunters and the clergy who give into the beast blood). There are clear comparisons between some of the enemies in both Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne, the wolf-men creatures are similar in stature and look to the Ghru-type of enemies who seem to be a more feral version of some of the bloathead enemies from Oolacile in Dark Souls. The crucifixion woods also seem to have feral wolf-like men creatures, along with hollows carrying stakes, similar to some of the church doctors found in Cathedral Ward right in front of the Vicar Amelia fight. Similar, but different, almost as if part of a corrupted dream. Dreams within dreams is very possible within the world of Bloodborne shown by entering the nightmare of Micolash and even by entering the Hunter's Dream. The Amygdala creatures of Bloodborne have limbs similar to whatever is within the Curse-Rotted Greatwood, but also the elongated limbs of hollows just enlarged. With the idea of Pilgrims of Londor possibly wanting to become angels we can make connections to heavenly beings, even celestial or spatial beings similar to what is the focus of the Scholars within Bloodborne. Bloodborne focuses on the Moon, obviously in contrast to the focus on the Sun of Dark Souls, but Aldrich did consume Gwyndolin of the Darkmoon, and goes on to take Gwyndolin's form, making sense then that Aldrich's dreams may also be heavily influenced by the essence of Gwyndolin making the moon important within the world he is dreaming of. In the Hunter's Dream, we can see the gray in the distance with visions of seemingly endless tall dark grey towers. Others have made comparisons of this to Ash Lake and seeing the many, seemingly endless, trees as well as the world that we see in the Dark Souls opening cinematic of the world that the Everlasting Dragons rule, filled with dark gray or towers or possibly trees. To me there are a lot of similarities, real world yeah because it's the same company creating the games, but there are slight differences that could be due to the many essences of those that Aldrich has consumed conflicting in his dreams. It's my headcanon, and probably full of holes, but I like it and it makes sense to me.

Along with all the similarities outlined between Painted World and Undead Asylum, the Painted World originally had level design with floors above Priscilla that was destructable, and an Asylum Demon was meant to break through them. It may be worth a mention, maybe not...but in relation to the identity of Sen being The Nameless King...the character Chihiro from Spirited Away gets her name taken away by the witch Yubaba. The witch gives her the name Sen as a replacement name. I know Fromsoft Miyazaki is very inspired by Ghibli Miyazaki so there could be some kind of connection there. Chihiro having her name taken(Nameless) and given the name Sen. The Nameless King having his name erased from history and then being known as Sen because no one knew his real name.

The daughters of dark aren't inherently evil, they're just expressions of primal humanity like Manus himself. Alsanna and Nadalia were both loyal to their husband kings to and beyond death. If she is a fragment of Manus, there's no reason to assume Shanalotte is any is more evil than Alsanna or Nadalia. Manus himself had a gentle soul before the citizens of Oolacile disturbed his rest.

When things are bright red and usually indicates the fervor of the dragons when it's Scarlet it indicates the willful ignorance and when it is blue it indicates Rebellion. But when it is copper in color it indicates that one has Mastery over their own will. Colors are extremely important to Miyazaki

I think when involving Dark Souls 2 theories should keep in mind how troubled the development of the game was, and the whole thing with the world layout and story being reshuffled late into its development. Like that whole time travel thing that was gonna be so prominent, with the player finding a trinket and throwing themselves into the lake to go back in time.
@chrisp.9380
@chrisp.9380 Жыл бұрын
Even with a troubled development, that doesn't make the contributions to the Dark Souls narrative that DS2 gave meaningless or even close to worth disregarding. In fact, many of the most important plot lines of DS3 were set up by DS2's story. For example, the Sable Church of Londor's goal of usurping the flame rather than letting it fade is and idea first told to us by Vendrick (and Aldia) in DS2: "Shadow is not cast, but born of fire. And, the brighter the flame, the deeper the shadow. Inherit fire, and harness the Dark. Such is the calling of a true leader…" This goal is only finally realized ages later in the events of DS3 if that is what our character chooses. Just because they had to reshuffle assets during the development of DS2 doesn't mean they didn't also adjust the story they wrote to accommodate these changes. Fromsoft are still very storytelling oriented developers, even when Miyazaki isn't the director.

To those that suggest that bearer of the curse our Dark souls 2 character cannot be Slave Knight Gael due to way of white corona and how Gael is an old being, I'd say that our Dark Souls 2 character can enter memories and see things from past. Such as us talking to Vendrick pre-hollow as well as fighting Sir Alonne. Even in Prepare to die, the chosen undead could still go somewhat back and gain ancient knowledge, what prevent bearer of the curse from doing exactly the same thing? since bearer of the curse already done it through memories.

Griggs looks up to Logan so he won’t silence him, but he follows along so that his client doesn’t send someone who will actually do it I think. It makes sense as he has assassin traits, as well as Vinheim being a dark and secretive place. Additionally Logan is liked but most likely for his talent, rather than his personality, so the leaders of Vinheim may have wanted to silence him as he’s left them.

On the section about ornstien I believe the old dragonslayer in ds2 was a soldier of Ornstien. Ornstien was a captain and would have had a more distinguished armor to set him aside during the war with the dragons. I think the old dragonslayer was a soldier of ornstien given his duller iron armor, that began losing himself and made It to drangleic only to lock himself in and hollow in the cathedral after fleeing from the dragon right outside that he couldn't defeat alone.

Artorias being left handed always confused me, in the lore it's stated he broke it fighting Manus. Wouldn't it make sense for his shield arm to break while blocking one of Manus' attacks?
@snickpea97
@snickpea97 Жыл бұрын
You're correct, It was his shield arm that broke, and is the reason why he left the shield behind to protect sif in the form of a miracle. He was always a left-handed swordsman, and that didn't suddenly change in the boss fight, it's just I feel like people often get confused and conflate facts in a way that would make it seem like he was a right handed sworsdman, and only because it broke did he swap hands, which, no, mans would've died in that chasm if it were his sword arm that broke. it's the main reason he managed to trudge back to the surface, he was shambling and manic, but still armed enough to cleave a path

2:08:32 very interesting link between the Nameless Ling and Rosario. But I’ll throw it in there that if Rosaria is the Nameless King’s mother, then it’s less likely that he cut her tongue out and more likely that her tongue was removed because his name was stripped from history. When we think of mothers, we think of their unwavering love for their children; what if Gwen decided to remove his son’s name, b it Rosaria still remembered his name, so to keep it from ever being spoken again, Gwen removed his own wife’s tongue. And if we know anything about Gwen, it’s that he would even sacrifice himself for what he believes in, so another’s tongue is no question.

Since all of these games have eldtrich gods, its safe to assume that they all follow a linear timeline ending in bloodborne, or theyre separated dimensions that are used as playthings by them. Which I think would be amazing if they made a from software game where you play as a banished great one who tries to take over the eldrich dimension and restructure/restabalize it to their will.
