There's a lot out there. He was very versatile. He could play good guys and bad guys with equal effect. Also appeared in westerns, and even a musical comedy. He was a top actor. A film Star.

Terrific play. Great performances by the players. I loved Ms. Woodward's record player. It put my 1960's Dansette in the shade. 😁

Life Is But A Dream Where's the beef? A disappointing failure of literary imagination at the end, but Woodward is very effective in her role as the ingenue, literally, and provides some very affecting moments tracing an arc from suspicion to passion and final bitter realization. O'Brien's performance is marred by his knowing too much.
@erbl6779

you mean there's no twist? you're right. "and then I awoke" is the coward's way out. Joanne is splendiferous.

@@erbl6779 : Yes, precisely. "The coward's way out" is very well put. In a word, the screenwriter(s) surrendered. It is a sign of your sensitivity that you found Woodward "splendiferous."
@TheCalico72
@TheCalico72 2 жыл бұрын
With respect, I strongly disagree. This was no dream, and the "coward's way out" was not taken at the end. The story had to end as it did for there to be a positive outcome. The protagonist, aka the Dark Stranger, got so deep into his story that he fell in love with the girl he created, and she became a living, breathing human being to him. He had a psychotic break not a dream. He could no longer separate fantasy from reality. He came to in a mental ward. He'd been there 5 weeks, no doubt on medication and receiving other treatment. He didn't want to believe what Ruth was telling him, that there was no girl in the restaurant and no girl when he ran out into traffic, but he knew it had all been in his mind when he didn't find the earring in his coat pocket. That was a good thing because it meant that he had recovered or at least was on the road to recovery.
