I first caught notice of Street Fighter 2 V when it was airing on the STARZ channel in my teens. It's VERY underrated imho. I understand it's not canon but it still has a unique story and elements that should be added to the lore. I like how Ryu's personality was more like Goku, SF2V Ryu made an rough dog lick him while game Ryu scared them away with a glare. SF2V also paired Ryu with Chun-Li despite him being meant to marry Eliza and Chun-Li's father lives. It clearly was MEANT to have 2nd season because T. Hawk made a cameo in the opening clip yet never appeared in the show and Balrog WAS meant to fight in his boxing attire at one point. Also, Akuma popped up at various points like he was Waldo, can you spot Akuma?

It has an intense opening that gets you pumped and excited like the X-Men theme song did. 4:48 Did you notice the continuity error during Ryu's fight with Bison? Throughout the show Bison has arm sleeves. When Ryu hit Bison with a punch Bison's sleeves are gone in that shot. He's opened arm. The animators for that scene didn't get the memo and the editor forgot. Or Ryu punched Bison so hard his sleeves disappeared then came back when he used his powers.

I’ve always loved this series. You know it was actually cut in half from it’s original plan? There were ratings issues in Japan, so that’s what led to the reused animation, as well as the fact that the story had to be cut WAY short of the original intention. It’s also why some characters like Balrog never got a chance to shine, and others like Honda never showed up. I always wanted a season 2. A reboot or tribute would be great but unfortunately this series is mostly forgotten. The music was incredible to this day I listen to it in the car on the regular. It is interesting how every market interpreted the argument behind SFII, given that at the time it seems that not even Capcom themselves knew what it was about beside fighting in the streets..... Japan saw it as a bromance of martial artists Ryu & Ken fighting trough life when they casually (?) face an international terrorist organization lead by a extremely strong martial artist with psychic powers, while the american counterpart was basically GI Joe with Guile as Duke/Flint and instead of using guns they used martial arts.

That's awfully presumptuous. A large part of the draw for the Z portion of series was the fact it had been drip fed to the large majority of audiences outside of Japan. Bad dubs, censored galore and wasn't televised in its entirety for a long while. This rendition of SF is reminiscent of the Fatal Fury movies and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3 run from 1993-94. It's just not the type of anime that's built for the long haul. Huge win for Guile's portrayal though.

This is my favorite under-the-rug anime. I only got to see it up until the Ryu mind control part and then the video store didn't have the ending, so I have no idea how it ends or even how they get Ryu out of it. The last scene that really sticks out in my mind that I have to consider the end is Ken doing the Shoryuken for the first time and punching through the ceiling. Such a badass moment.. but then that was it. He was confronting Ryu and then silence. I'm glad someone else has heard of it and it was super nice to see someone talk about it and praise it too. And yes, the flashbacks got pretty obscene towards the end. I suspected the writers of trying to pad the run time but I can't ever be sure, but without a doubt the BGM for the Hado was epic. That's the thing that stands out the most in my memory of this anime, and for some reason Ryu's bracelet. I never forget that bracelet.

Street Fighter 2 V holds a special place in my heart, it was the anime that got me into my martial arts phase in my teens after I bought a VHS of the first few episodes in a store. as a weird coincidence sometime later on the SciFi channel started airing anime on Monday nights and would air Street Fighter 2V "No idea why its not Sci fi related lol" so I got to see further into the series.

I actually bought that back in the days on dvd cause I loved SF and it was such a fresh take. They fight guile at a pub, Ryu goes to prison, the akuma cameos, the Ken vs Vega fight etc.

I watched this series in college and thought it was awesome. I liked seeing Ryu and Ken start off as brash punks who mature as the show progresses

The best Street Fighter. That Vega was Ken fight was brutal. And so was Guile vs Ryu. Great opener btw.

Nice review. Now I have to rewatch. I loved it when I was younger, but I want to know how it ranks amongst my faves.

Wow!!! I genuinely never knew! Now I definitely wanna watch! I received meniscus surgery so I’m bedridden for at least 3 days.

I saw it on Cartoon Network when I was little. Street Fighter was alreafy my favorite game so naturally I fell instantly in love with this serie. It was pretty close to the first animated movie but you could clearly see that they weren't related. I loved every second of this show.

In Brazil this series was super big. Even my mother watched. I really loved it even if it was very different form the original story. I find kinda funny how americans love the sf2 the movie. Cause when it was released here people were just ''yeah, its fine, not as much as the series''. Its fantastic.
