Concussion after concussion and TNA did nothing to help her with her medical bills. They kept on pushing her to the limit and that caused irrevocable damage that caused her to to take her own life. TNA treated her like she was a Deathmatch wrestler, she always took the nasty bumps. So unfortunately I do put TNA partly responsible for this. I’m not against these types of bumps, but if a wrestler doesn’t want to do certain bumps, then they are well within their rights to say no, and Daffney was pressured into doing a bump she didn’t want to do. I’m a huge fan of the women’s wrestlers of the 00’s era as they don’t get the recognition they deserve. TNA had imo the best women’s roster in wrestling history from 2007 to 2012.

@@AgeOfWrestlingas much as I love and respect Mick Foley, I’ve long been very disappointed in him for encouraging Daffney to do that one. That was so inconsiderate, dumb, and shitty. He could’ve died when he had his big moment from the HIAC match with Taker. I’m thankful he didn’t die and he’s still here with us. But to encourage anyone else to do it, let alone a woman, is irresponsible and idiotic. I’m a feminist of the old school variety, but even I recognize and understand the differences in how we women are built and how men are built. It’s wild to see a lot of the Japanese death match stuff that these tiny, petite women perform! It’s impressive and badass as fuck, but damn. It couldn’t be me. Though, I have not personally seen any other women pro wrestlers who take big dives and high spot bumps like the one Daffney was convinced to take. @YerpDerp173 ай бұрын
TBH I think she was aware, but by that point it didn't matter because the concussions and probably CTE had ate away at her mentally and physically. She was aware of all the phone calls and concerned people moments before taking her own life. She knew people cared. But depression is no joke, especially when caused by a diagnosed mental illness, or a depression caused by physical or mental injuries. And with her wanting her own brain to be looked and studied at after death shows her level of awareness of the situation. She was probably really suffering badly because of her concussions and injuries sustained wrestling. I don't at all think it was from a lack of not feeling loved. When someone is in constant pain, mentally, physically, or both, and there is no cure for it, it can really weigh a person down after time, to where they will do anything to make it stop. It's not selfish, and the action shouldn't be judged. But at the end of the day, she was simply seeking relief, and its extremely saddening that it all had to play out this way.

Age of Wrestling, I always look forward to your brilliantly written, informative, honest content. You are never melodramatic, and your voiceover is riveting and soothing. Thank you for honoring this woman. I didn’t know of her until she died, sadly. I just wasn’t following wrestling during her peak. I’m sorry I missed her work, but I suppose I could at least go on Peacock and see her work on WCW ( I’m pretty sure WWE also puts the WCW content on Peacock, too). Daffney was clearly so damn talented as both an actress and a pro wrestler! She gave her ALL to the work she did, and they gave her no real help and support during and after. This woman was just 3 years older than me. I struggle with mental health issues and chronic pain, too, so I profoundly empathize with women like Daffney, Sensational Sherri, Chyna, Ashley M., and Miss Elizabeth (obviously Elizabeth never wrestled or received concussions in the business, but it’s quite likely she was abused by both Randy and Lex, with there being some evidence to support that Lex beat her in the face). Regardless, I have so much empathy and regard for Daffney. What a talent! Thank you for your great content, and thank you for never shying away from the hard and painful truths. I have CTE from accidents over the decades nothing to do with wrestling just assault, sports, and car accidents and suffer a little of what she went through so can understand her situation. Also, tried to self-delete twice since the last head injury back in 2012/3. I can't even remember when it was since I have memory loss due to the last head injury. This is something I really hate about wrestling though having been a fan since mid 1980s, I wish more control is placed on these companies since these people are actors and actors are treated as employees when on tv shows. Wrestling companies get away with some much legal grey zones just cause they stay outside the normal work thing, but it's time they were placed under the same work laws.

I absolutely adored Daffney. From WCW onwards. Admittedly in when I first saw her in WCW, I had a total crush, which never went away tbh. She was ahead of her time in a way. If you look at how Paige/Saraya was in wwe. Daffney was the original anti-diva. It was heartbreaking when she passed away. It's tragic the way she was treated by TNA.

It's surprisingly not talked about very much, but at one point Daffney was married to Rich Ward from Fozzy and that's why Chris Jericho knew here and tried to get WWE to hire her.

This is honestly degusting and makes me hate the wrestling business. Sickest part is people directly involved are still making money on by trashing or obsessing over the current wrestling scene

Mick Foley really thought that the Daffney table spot with Abyss could be as iconic as his Hell in a Celloff the cage bump?! Come on, Mick. You didn't mean that 😂😂😂.

It's such a horrible story, and tna should have paid all her medical bills

Shannon took that spot in October 2009. The same month Bischoff was hired and TNA decided to go full WCW Russo and all. By January 2010 Hogan and his multimillion dollar contract and all of his not-cheap buddies started showing up too. Clearly Dixie and TNA and Panda had money to spend. Lots and lots of money. Probably the most they've ever spent! At this time Shannon was maybe making $300 per show. But hey smash your head in because a guy we're paying seven figures says it'll look good on TV please. btw we can't pay your medical costs, that'll set a bad precedent. Wrestling ain't great but TNA did some terrible things

And Bubba Ray Dudley First he nearly injured Stacy Kiebler by botching the powerbomb to the table and he trained Rosie Lottalove to severly injured Daffney by using a sit down slam to her head and Bubba Ray Dudley blamed Daffney for Rosie's release and Daffney has been through hell with everything happening to her and he is the the one at fault for training Rosie the way he did

If I’m not mistaken, doesn’t WWE (for all of their evil) cover 100% of injuries that happen in the ring? It’s inexcusable for TNA not to do the same. Daffney literally went out the same way Junior Seau did 😢. As dark as this may seem, I’m glad she documented this so experts can be further informed on CTE. That alone showed how giving of a person she was.
