The "Con" in ConMan is short for Confidence. The best Con Men tend to be either very Good Looking, Charming, Tall, Dominant and or Charismatic. I thought I was above this, but I realised as a kid that I tended to try and talk to more attractive people. So I worked to undo that bias. Then when watching penguinz0 call out scams, I was confronted with the unpleasant realisation that I couldn’t actually tell from their tone that they were scammy. Maybe because I was only listening rather than watching the video, but it taught me that many times as long as the speaker is white with an American or British accent, my brain automatically elevates their words without actually judging their validity.

2:00 They learn to say the right things while doing the opposite behind the scenes. Most effective liars (as in they lure a bunch of ingenuous people in) mix convenient truths, fact omission and downright lies to sound more believable. They rarely just flat out lie to you, that would be too easy to discern. But if you look closely at the logical consistency it quickly falls apart. It is also worth mentioning that psychopathic people (even at low levels) tend to like more successful psychopaths.
@testboga59912 жыл бұрын
Scammers need to have cluster b personality traits to be able to morally live with themselves. But having cluster b traits often goes in hand with what's called "superficial charm". So basically the people that fulfill these two requirements are able to run scams and also able to make them big enough to be noticed. The antagonistic ones won't succeed.

There's just so many of them. What's really crazy is when you get innumerable "lifestyle guru" types, and their whole schtick isn't dropshipping or forex or the usual suspects: They talk about legitimate things like starting blogs or marketing or whatever, they present themselves as being "Just like you" before they *worked hard* and found success away from the 9-to-5 grind. "It takes hard work and you gotta give it your all!" they say. They're gonna teach you SKILLS! ...How did they do it? Well, by starting an empty course full of promises! They'll talk about legitimate things but leave out anything actually useful or that could be considered "training." Then, they have legions of "students" who just start their own BS sales-funnels, and so on, and so forth. These days it feels like internet-marketing is basically con-artistry and psychopathic manipulation, and to sell people on it, they come up with all sorts of crazy rationale while trying to get you excited to con others...into getting excited to con others.
