It’s actually strange. I never lived in CA, but visiting Hollywood especially, it feels empty. Under the sunlight in the daytime, the city feels like desperation and sadness. Driving through at night, it feels like emptiness. There’s lights and music and billboards but it feels like…. I can’t quite put my finger on it. It’s depressing.

You are right. I lived there for many years but had to leave. It was fun, but the city lacks a soul. There is such a darkness & millions of desperate, unfulfilled people that aren’t living an honest life. Many take advantage of young people who want to be stars. It’s ugly & evil.

I think that the flashier and more alluring something is, and the more desire it sparks in a human being, the larger and more desperate our craving for that thing is. This is human nature - to be attracted to bright, shiny things; to beautiful things; and to beautiful promises and the - imagined - satisfaction we will attain from those things. But the truth is, the more we live in our craving for the imagined future fulfillment of things, the further away we are, in our mind and heart, from the reality of God. God is within us, not within things or fame or the next new shiny object if our desire. And Hollywood is a place where the discrepancy between craving and God is exaggerated. So the emptiness, the loneliness and the feeling of superficiality is felt even more there, especially by sensitive people who straddle the fence of wanting to be noticed and to "make it" yet simultaneously knowing they actually desire for their soul to be in touch with God, and for their hearts to be open, warm and filled with spiritual energy. It's the contrast that is painful. But it could also serve to motivate some to awaken to what is truly important and real.

My first time in LA I went to visit friends and promised I would not get into the who knows who scene. But it took all but six hours before the people I met knew people, famous people, who knew other people who knew people I was about to meet. We weren't trying to name drop. It just happened in a snap of a finger. It is its own world. And yet I noticed when you get a little off the grid there are a lot of wonderful people who work in the madness but have managed to stay sane and down to earth. It is almost like you become famous just so you can give yourself permission to be human again.

Tom was the greatest purveyor of "performance art" that Canada has ever produced. Banksy got famous in 2003 for secretly hanging his work in a museum. Tom did it, and video videoed it 7 or 8 years prior,( see "Tiger Zebra"). Tom decided that conventional media was not good enough and started something called a podcast years before anyone. he had the idea that people would eventually give up TV and use their computers. Etc. Its comical to hear any industry say they want "Creative people" or " blablabla thinking outside the box"..... The "Dark Truth About Hollywood", the art world, the music business, tech, or even government is that is completely invested in the status quo. A Tom Green is like a Napster, a threat to any big complicated organisation. Woke is just, the new status quo, until it isn't.

Tom was and is a comic genius, but his style of comedy wasn't very bankable. His movies appealed to a limited audience and I don't think they were particularly profitable, but I haven't checked. Studios want people who can sell and make them money. It's really as simple as that.

I cannot believe how easily everyone is falling for the trap of this state tribalism thing that is clearly good business for the elites and no one else. I was born and raised in CA (luckily rural central coast). I have lived in FL, NC and HI while in the Navy with many months of training in TX, IL, and WA. I love all these areas and maintain relationships with people from each state. In general, Americans are good folk. I never had a problem visiting or connecting with people in the “bad parts of town” and quickly realized wherever I visited the onus was on me to create good conversation. We all have far more in common with one another than not, but have become so obsessed with painting each other as _____ because of what state you reside in.

@@CLAYMOR916 Well, Tom Green directed and co-wrote it. The film is about a cartoonist (played by Tom) pursuing his dream of ceating an animated series. There's lots of material about his relationship with his father as well (played by the awesome Rip Torn). It's a surreal mixture of elements and it's very subversive in the style of transgressive comedy. I highy recommend it, but be warned, many people consider it to be very offensive.

At the end of the podcast Joe asks Tom a question: - How long did you go alone, isolated during the pandemic? Tom struggled so hard to answer honestly and for a reason. He knows Joe hated the restrictions and never was vaxxed. While Tom was ALL IN, following every new rule hard and we all watched him going a little crazy doing that year. But instead of getting into a debate on covid with Joe, he lied and said "a few months", while we who watched him during the pandemic knows he isolated for at least a year. It would be much better if Tom would have been honest and not afraid of Joe confronting him. Joe also probably knows he lied about the amount of time he isolated himself.

Damn. It helps hearing this because I walked away from Hollywood with regrets thinking I was crazy but there was something in my stomach that made me feel sick. Ok my story: I was there from 99-2012. I’m 43. I just drove out there from Texas. I wasn’t invited. I was running away from a bullied childhood. Then I book a show in my first 3 months there. They bleached my red hair. Made me a darker blond. Dye my eyebrows. I didn’t recognize myself. But suddenly I was “hot” I was told never to tell I was a redhead. I’m a guy they say, reds only hot for girls. I said ok. I was in a class at the Meisner studio with Jordanna Brewster, and James Francos little brother. This was a new class for me. But I had already been in classes one on one. I got the attention of James Franco and they started asking me about the cross I was wearing. They jokingly said “So…. Do you accept Jesus Christ to be your savior?” Wierdest fkking question of my life. I’m agnostic and the cross was a gift from my mom. I didn’t know how to answer the question. I said yea sure. Wrong answer. Agnostic would have been the better answer. I was asked to leave the class and go to a different studio they owned. I just never came back. I froze my sag membership and I knew this place was cultish. Luckily for me I left and bought a foreclosure house in Dallas for 190K. Today it’s worth 1.2 mil. Walking away was the best decision I ever made.

This concept is very ironic considering everything we were made to believe about Hollywood that the film industry fed us for years such as the paparazzi, record labels, limousines, autographs, and the premise of being a famous person. The industry tried to aggressively enforce all this marketing towards us around the time that the internet was becoming a staple as an alternative source of entertainment. Not a coincidence.

I have been following Abraham Education for a while. I have learned to appreciate & enjoy Br. Michael's wisdom on the realities of life, like the example he gave on mental health being an individualistic concept rather than a collective which has cultural implications - a small observation but it demonstrates grounded understanding of cultural differences and general wisdom. Its honestly very engaging and practical. May Allah bless you both.

It is really about how much you are willing to give off your self as a person, your character, some may say, your soul. Is it with it. I went down in 1993-94 to give acting a shot and tried to find an agent. My brother was attending USC film school and also filming a movie. First....I was immediately propositioned by every gay man I became friends with. About 50% of those gay propositions came with a carrot on a strong that if I obliged them on their gay pursuits. I would attend parties in Laurel Canyon since one of my good friends was a fairly recognized actor at the time and would meet all sorts of celebrities and I just remember some of them looking at my poor 19 year old childlike babyface as if It was a shame that I was going to be ruined. GOod thing I got sick of all the BS and came back home after a year....Everybody I met was completely fake.

No it's not and Rogan is lying his butt off or he's just uninformed like he usually is and too lazy to do research. John Wayne, Charlton Heston and many Hollywood elites were conservative Republicans. Schwarzenegger is a Republican and does fine. Here's a lie conservatives tell a lot- Tim Allen and "Tool Time" were canceled because Tim is a conservative christian. Tim Allen and Patricia Richardson were offered 50 million and 25 million to re-sign for 2 years and they both turned it down but Republicans still repeat that lie. Below I've posted a list of 50 stars that are Conservatives and shows a pattern over almost 100 years that Conservatives do just fine in Holkywood. Joe is pushing bs conspiracy theories. And the studio owners are pretty much Republicans. Below is another article on Rogan's bs. 1950s Hollywood television was radically conservative and from the 1920s to now studios were run by Conservatives and brutalized women as Louis B. Mayer used to do. Mayer of MGM was a staunch Conservative and head of the Califirnia Republican Party and that was the biggest and most powerful studio. Rogan is just wrong. Read below: www.salon.com/2011/08/31/hollywood_left_and_right/ Read below: www.streamceleb.com/entertainment/conservative-actors
