It's not misogynistic at all, It's a satirical and exaggerated description of what most teen males goes through when growing up: a war of hormones, also an appreciation towards women and their physical attributes like how is that worst than what we hear on the radio now a days???
@AussieGirl411 Жыл бұрын
I have always believed the war of hormone criticism was blown out of proportion. I think the main one was that it was objectifying women, which yes is valid but you also need to consider context, this song doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It was written, as a lot of this album was, from the perspective of a teenage boy going through a period of sexual awakening and discovering attraction and relationships. The lyrics are exaggerated and the delivery is excited because they’re overwhelmed by these new thoughts and feelings and trying to put them into words and process them. The title itself basically spells out the actual intention of the song, being a teenager is war with these new hormones taking over all your rational thought. I can remember thinking back then that it was absolutely ridiculous that this song was being criticised to the point that it had articles written about it when you compared it to other songs being put out at the same time, I’m pretty convinced that the media escalated it as much as possible as part of another smear campaign to try and associate controversy with bts’ name. But it just once again proved the strength of bts’s character, because it would’ve been so easy to just brush aside the criticism, or just apologise or never perform the song again and move on, but they instead made the effort to educate themselves, to actually listen to women and not speak over or for them. They’re so conscious of the messages they put into the world, and I’ll never stop being proud to be their fan.

@@afreepotatochip8765 lol not that you can't have your opinions, but personally I never saw it as misogyny but as the perspective of a guy simply mentioning what attracted them to a girl. In WOH, they literally say "girls are a gift" and even a lyric that was translated as "women are like an equation, us guys are the solution" also translated as "women are an equation, us guys do them" and it's those small instances in translation that can also generate misunderstandings, like with the change in "do them". Bcs it's been analyzed by many that, yeah you can take it with your interpretation (as them being misogynistic), but I've seen many ARMYs agreeing that it can also mean that the lyrics explains that, if the "equation" of women/girls equal the "answer" aka guys/men, BTS actually meant that men and women are equal. And if they acknowledged the lyrics, it was bcs of the backlash. Bcs they realized their lyrics could be seen as misogynistic but it doesn't mean that was their intention of the meaning of those lyrics. They realized the lyrics could be hurtful, doesn't mean it was intended to be hurtful or that everyone thought that. And like I said, to me, personally, there was no misogyny. My country's native language is spanish and ppl listen to raeggaeton 24/7, and most of those lyrics and mvs are misogynistic AF. And honestly?? From what friends living in the US tell me, ppl love reggaeton over there but that aspect is never mentioned bcs of the language barrier and ppl simply bopping to them; the songs translated to english can even sound very romantic bcs like I've said, the translation will never be the same as the OG song's meaning. So it's not to excuse but to also remember that essence in lyrics is lost, especially in languages like korean or japanese, where many translation will never even capture a bit of the meaning due to english having no word for the emotion/feeling described. 🤷♀🤷♀🤷♀🤷♀

As a girl, I would say war of hormone is objectification but its NOT misogynistic. Myspgyny is hate for women. Woh does not show hate or contempt for women. Even though the lyrics resort to age old stereotypes about women's fashion and bodies, it's still done within the context of hormonal teenagers. And so that song is excused. But I'm also glad bts took the criticism they got from that song and applied it to their real selves and improved themselves as humans. They are wiser and older now. And Namjoon is a Feminist. His growth >>>>>

Yesss! As a girl, the lyrics caused me some strange and uncomfortable feelings (p.s. I forgot about such a thing as objectification, so I thought about misogyny as if it were part of the same thing), and therefore it was a little strange for me as no one agrees with "misogyny" in the text at all, when that even if she was there, what's the big deal if they changed and apologized anyway. If it wasn't for your comment about objectification in the text, and not misogyny, I would have thought so about it.

Ah Dark and Wild! I'd forgotten how this was just stacked back to back with absolute timeless music! Such a great album. Can't believe it didn't get its flowers whet it was released. Also did think the misogyny in war of harmones was blown out of proportion. Yes it was objectifying women and yes thats not desirable to women but it was literally titled "war of hormones" and existed in an album that explored young love, attraction and relationships. It was a satirical but honest take on how a teenage boy's mind operates and I thought that was clear to all, but guess not. That said, I am glad it was brought up and that they chose to acknowledge it while actively learning and doing better in the future. I feel it was a turning point in their careers and influenced a lot of great thinking down the line. Like RM mentions in Beyond The Story, it was something everyone would have to encounter in their lives at some point and for them he was glad that it was earlier.

What people missed about War of Hormone's is that the meaning of the song is literally in the Title. I got the meaning the first time I heard it and the first time I read the lyrics. Plus, their over the top cringe teenage boy in puberty acting in the MV clearly shows what the song is about. But people blew it out of proportion and assumed it's misogynistic when it's just a song about teenage boys battling with their hormones in their puberty stage. It's not rocket science.

EYYYY WE HAVE ARRIVED TO D&W LEZZGOWWWWWWWWWW. If it wasnt in the notes already they recorded and prepared for this album while they were filming for American Hustle Life. They had that apartment in LA and turned the garage into their recording studio. They was a lot riding on this album, that's why when they talked about this before they really felt that the album didn't do well. But let me tell you they got a lot of new fans on this. And taehyung really went viral because of that War of Hormone video with his styling and facial expressions. Also the misogyny thing it's because the lyrics describe women as objects. although the song itself didn't present that women as objects is an insult, it's just the word they use to describe the things they say in the lyrics. Also it's literally titled war of HORMONE, it's how young boys/guys talk about their attraction to girls. It's like exactly like that when you're young. You're immature, you focus on the physical attraction. It's what the song is about. Hiphop lover is like rapline's love letter to everyone who inspired them to rap. It's one of my all time favorites.

Even if War Of Hormone is misogynistic, BTS did the best thing any man could do in that situation by *learning from it* . After the controversy RM submitted his lyrics to be reviewed by a university professor of women's studies, AND they went on to create a song about women's empowerment called 21st Century Girl to make up for their mistakes, which is a BANGER that you will find when you reach the 2016 Wings album.
@kanaphan7646 Жыл бұрын
The song isn’t even mysogynistic. Its literally called war of HORMONE, ofc they are going to be goofy and say those type of things. Nothing was offensive, it was more funny than something else. Making RM think he did something bad to the point to question myself and reach out to people is insane.
@rkivelover Жыл бұрын
@@kanaphan7646 I agree that even if the song is not intended to be satirical, it's hardly that bad but there are certainly elements of objectification in the lyrics eg "women are the best gift" and "women are the equations, men complete them" and while of course we KNOW from their other music and just their personalities that bts don't view women as sexual objects, if you separate this song from the rest of their discography it doesn't look so good. and saying "compared to other music it isn't even that bad" is just absolving them of accountability. but they took accountability and they learned, even if it is just a harmless silly little song about sexual attraction, and for that I will always be immensely proud of them because despite the overreaction from haters, they did what I have never seen any other male musician do.

3 years ago I didn't know who BTS were, then yt algorithm suggested me their Danger dance practice and that sealed the deal right away. Fell in the reabbit hole and never came out. This whole album was treated so unjustly. They worked themselves sick for this and it never got the recognition it deserved. Danger was an absolute banger and the hate War of Hormones got? Ridiculous. All I saw was exactly what it states in the title, the hormonal war going on inside a teenager, tbh it was just akward and cute. Which makes perfect sense in the context of the song. This was their toughest era, I'm so prod of hoow they overcame the hate and worked even harder to prove everyone wrong. Look at them now.

Oh I am ready...starting this comment now, lets see where this takes us When I found out the instrumental for Outro: Propose was at the beginning of Danger ...like it took me too long to realize. Only realized when I was listening to the songs chronologically on a road trip. ARMY FAIL. War of HORMONE!!! lol the backlash that song got was literally what we see now happening with boys, taking something innocuous and blowing it up to insane proportions, getting media involved to defame them and bring them down. Hate is Hate yall, and we can see how much it blinfs people. Trash news media will pick anything up and if there is enough buzz ANY media source will write about it WITHOUT research. SOME humans have a tendency to allow others to think for them because thinking for themselves would just be too difficult so it really didnt need to get as out of hand as it did. They were being more authentic with this album you can tell it has alot more of their personality at this age. I know they apologized for the songs implications but I do think they are very thoughtful about lyrics especially when writing for a global fandom. They just needed to calm down the masses that were losing their minds. They didnt have the money or the power to tell people they were rightfully wrong which is unfortunate, but they also learned that they needed to be more careful, WAY more careful than they had been. Every situation is a lesson that they keep with them. The things that happen now with the mediaplay and accusations.....they have been there before unfortunately and they know what it looks like and how to handle it better because of all these trials. ALSO what I came down here to say about WOH was this was TAEHYUNGS awakening lmaooo he was having way too much fun with this MV. HIP HOP PHILE!!!!!!!! This is where I think the rappers in the game, the old school hip hop heads saw how much respect they had for the culture in which HIP HOP originated from. That it wasnt just imitation for the sake of concept, that they grew up on this, needed this music to get through like we all do. They paid homage to the greats and told their story in the same breathe and it is most definitely a banger!!! Its also super BIG HIT and BTS like to drop their album names in projects worked years prior like they have been planning their success since 1887. Agust D the name was dropped in Cypher 2 and Hope world was dropped here......like I love when the pieces come together to make a perfect picture. Its also a running gag that Bang PD(yes Hit man Bang) has planned all this out like in a different life time but honestly it just shows how much they knew themselves that Agust D was established in 2014 in a Cypher for his 2016 mixtape and used till this day as his second moniker and with JHope, Cole has been such an inspiration that Hope World was mentioned here in 2014 for a 2018 mixtape to be called that and then to work with J Cole in 2023 ......like sometimes I feel like this cant be real. I genuinely love Rain so much, I actually cant express what this song does to me nostalgically....I have yet to find the words to be honest but its always done something with the rain and jazz sounds and I think the way they told the story that I have an entire MV created in my mind colour corrected to feel like what this song would look like in colour form. The music production, the lyrics, the adlibs, the feeling ....I wish I could say more .... I cant .....I cant express....words are hard... I love this song. OH I LOVE how the recommendations YT gave you after rain was "134340" with a funkier jazz beat but still jazz instrumental lol and "Still with you" which is literally Rain's younger sister. Thats wild. 44:35 - I DIED LMAOOOOOOOOOO "WOOOOH" you were shook.

You know you're such a gift to us ARMYs. even though this season doesn't feel much like they're not on hiatus because of all the solo release, it still feels different watching the bts songs with the 7 of them in it. I miss them as a whole and thank you for these very timely reaction videos. 💜 reminds me of how great my faves are 🥺

I've been waiting for you to get to Dark and Wild. It's literally one of my favorite albums ever
@MarinaEariel Жыл бұрын
"Dark and Wild", or rather the Korean expression they used during the promotion of this album (but I can't remember it 🤷♀️) is an archetype/category of character in kdrama/manwha/other media. That's why in the translations of variety shows of around that time is usual "macho man" to be mentioned. I think the whole album is about teenagers/young men wanting to be "macho man" thinking that's what is expected of them, and everything that's really going on in their heads and their bodies

Rain is one of my all time favorite bts songs. The way rapline uses 3 different ways to use the metaphor of rain in the lyrics is just magnificent.
