the biggest darker side is the damage to whats inside the skull , it comes in small small dosages from each jab the skull eats. The easist fix, if one want to fight, is to use lots of ascorbic acid. Study Dr Robert Cathcart , so the tissues rapair instead of becoming permanent scars.

if you haven't tried magic spoon... it tastes alright (not far off from the cereals they mimic), but the texture is a little weird - they don't have the crunch that regular cereals have, but if you can get around the sponginess, it's not a bad replacement for a keto version... however if you're looking for stuff like vitamins (ironically, iron) and fiber, the sugary brand name is actually better, go figure.

My first professional fight was against a disproportionately seasoned fighter (around thirty fights) which made no sense.. I somehow miraculously managed to win and was incredibly proud. So yeah, I found our he had taken a dive. The whole thing had been decided in advance. I was so heartbroken with that being my first that I genuinely considered quitting. Only direct experience I ever had with a fixed fight then and making me think the whole sport was like that was hard to get past.

I've heard so many horror stories here in Thailand of western fighters being set up by trainers who bet against them. Surrounding yourself with people you can truly trust is key in this sport. Not to mention the big problem of promotions playing favorites, you see it all the time where they'll feed their stars less experienced or fighters they know will loose just to protect their record and make them look good, or even worse, sometimes the "meat" manages to win yet they give the win to the star anyways. So much shady stuff happening behind the scenes in combat sports that people don't see.

For my fourth AMATEUR fight, I ended up fighting a guy who had twice the amounts of fights I did & won. I was 4-0 & A little over a month after this though I went to Thailand & had my fifth fight & ended up fighting a guy who had almost 200 fights. Prior to this I had never fought without headgear, shinguards & elbow pads. Luckily for me I had no idea until after & I went in confident, ready, & determined. I fought all 5 rounds almost knocked him out a few times & lost by decision to points. It was a crazy fight & it could've went a completely different way. I'm grateful for the experience but sheeeeeesh. shoutout thailand they gave me my first l 4-1 haha

Hit directly on the button with this video, especially with the insurance and trainers bit. I'm just an amateur who competes on the regional mma and kickboxing scene but I've seen guys who I swear had the potential to be world class only to have their wings clipped because they get screwed over by their trainers booking them back to back fights until eventually they would get an injury that they couldn't hope (or even afford) to get properly fixed and healed. Really puts into perspective that the guys who last the longest (and at times make it to the top) are the guys who really love what they're doing and prioritize longevity on a martial arts journey over fame and the like.

I think another problem is that many gyms seem to be quite all or nothing. I have been thrown out of the sparring classes or barred from competing in more than one gym, for not wanting to transition from light to full contact. I'm a 30 year old engineer with kids, so I'm not planning to go pro by any means. But its sad that you have to switch gym or sport if you don't want to take the downsides of full contact competition.

I definitely had an issue with a bad promoter, but to jump on that there are also bad or corrupt referees. In my fight, my opponent kicked me below the belt three times IN THE FIRST ROUND!!!! Not only was he not penalized, but the ref was telling me that I needed to hurry up and recover, and then had the balls to take a point away from me the next round for “holding the cage”

I think the biggest dark side that no one wants to talk about is the other end of life. Most fighters finish up with considerable brain trauma. Alzheimers, mood swings and many other diseases are almost inevitable.

Also in regards to the insurance stuff Gabriel - it's that most times promoters just have the "minimum" not that they aren't covered... it's that the deductible is stupid high ($850+ USD) on top of that it's not all covered. Definitely have your own insurance... this is why fighters opt to go back home to fix shit and it's definitely messed up!

Great video, Gabriel. Some of these things I've definately experienced my self, and I wish I'd had been told beforehand. Well said… i’d also mention at the lower level lazy/bias refs are very common in all martial arts. Sanctioning bodies or organizations are also often bias. They will try to fuck you over by bending rules… most cases there isn’t much recourse so be wary. Ask people that you train with and compete in private for advice or tricks. They may give you some helpful gossip.

I had a friend who was training a guy that was a good athlete but had no experience with sparring, especially hard sparring. This kid looked up to and respected my friend and my friend really punishing any openings at this kid would have. He ended up physically beating this kid down to the point where he gave up on martial arts training entirely. It was really sad because he was picking things up technique-wise very fast and he was already athletic he just got the will to do it punched out of him before he ever had a chance to get comfortable.

Once at 137lbs, getting wrapped in numerous blankets and squeezing mandarin oranges between my teeth & only taking the juice, as the last 1.5-2lbs would take care of itself. You cut as much fat as possible through strict diet and maybe you even have to cut muscle mass to get to a certain weight and then you start water loading, no salt,.. Many gyms have their golden boy top stars of the gym,, and they always need people willing to step in the ring and be game sparring partners to prepare the main alphas for a shot at gold at whatever competition. Yes, you can get better thru this path, but not everyone will find this path successful to developing as a really skilled fighter for the long run, and certainly while the gym owner/ instructor is happy to pat you on the back for being a tough, game piece of meat, while he takes your monthly gym fees, make no mistake he'll forget about you very quickly when you decide to put your own betterment of your self interests first....and on goes the revolving door.

Whats you're saying Master Varga it's true to me let's me tell u my coach or trainer he only care about winning "I believe you can get the gold medal i've dreamed about its" it's our career not your and keep trying to kill our creativity with his verbal abuse i really wanted to start a fight career but sacrificing my own mental health for other ego like Victoria Lee did not worth its thank Master Varga for open my mind with knowledge

Just want to say that while magic spoon has some nice macros, they are full of seed oils which are horrible for you. Stay away from seed oils, especially a product like that thats made primarily of them

Let’s be honest here, it’s the fight game. There are always going to be shady characters and it will always have a criminal element to it. Anyone going into thinking it’s all honour, respect and all those other words written on the dojo wall is going to be in for a long and unpleasant ride.

I have always said there needs to be same day weigh in for fight night. That would help elviate the trauma put on your body because you won't have that recover day before your fight.

I used to do amateur cards for Gabriel so we could bring in the actual real best fighter in his weight class from where ever they lived in the world. How many times have you seen someone fight an opponent who lives 20 miles away for a vacant world title..... meaningless. Corey Schafer - the ISKA President would tell me who we had to fly in for a legitimate title fight, it was never up to me. When I was doing cards I wanted to implement a step on the scale and then into the ring to fight - the problem is you would be surprised how many fights would just fall through at that point if you did it this way. Every fight except his last Karate Combat fight where Gabriel was the bigger fighter, Gabriel has had his opponents be anywhere from 10 to 25 lbs heavier than him after weigh ins in the ring. Robin Van Roosmalen is a great fighter for sure and would be a challenge at any weight but when he and Gabriel fought they weighed in at 145 and the next day in the ring Gabriel weighed 148lbs and Robin was around 173 lbs. There was a 25lb weight difference in the fight. All things being equal in skill etc the bigger guy will win as Robin did. Same skill level and a 25 lb disadvantage is not a fight you can win at that level where all the top 5 pros in a weight class are great fighters. There certainly needs to be something done but even Glory had come out with new weigh in rules and then shattered them to have Robin fight Gabriel. I do not think Robin ever made that weight again and actually had to vacate that lightweight title on his very first title defence fight as he could not make weight on the weigh in day. These weight losses are very harmful for fighters not just body wise but the loss of fluid protecting the brain is also reduced and brain trauma is a REAL thing. Being a senior citizen now and being involved in this sport for over 50 years I have known more than one athlete who has died from steroid use and things taken to enhance their performance. Down the road even if you do not develop health issues you know it is something you did not actually accomplish on your own without cheating. Why would I want to think I am the world champion if I beat up someone who I needed to use drugs, massive weight loss to have a huge advantage over? I guess it would not bother some - but I would reflect on "man I had to cheat to win". Just my thoughts and I could be wrong..... Gabriel's dad - Keith

That's true - PEDs can be used for lots of things like endurance, strength and recovery without turning you into a tank. Look at professional cyclists for example.

This comment is more of a story and will be kind of long but it is worth reading.. My Craziest fight story. I went to a promotion to corner my training partner. His fighter backed out last minute so he did not get to fight. Another fighter also backed out from another bout and the promoter was scrambling to find someone to step in. Rather than ask my buddy who was already supposed to fight that night, they asked me. As a rookie with only 3 fights I stupidly said sure I'll fight. I remember entering the cage and the stats being announced. My opponent was 3 weight classes above me. I weighed 130 at the time. I vocally said out loud thats not fair when I heard his weight. I thought oh crap I got to get out of hear fast. The bell rang we each threw a couple of punches and I crawled up his back and choked him out in under 30 seconds. The fight went in my favor but the experince rattled my drive to compete.
