Quick Error correction: It was brought to my attention at 15:10 I misinterpreted this section as the Russian Army committing the hanging and completely neglected the Symbol on the note ( Apparently I can't see and got it backwards.) It doesn't make sense that Russians would call the German army traitors and use their symbol on the note. TL:DR Basically the German army hung their own for being traitorous and I made a fucky wucky thinking the russians did it.

It is also mistranslated from the devs (they mistranslated a lot of German). It says: "Verräter in das Mutterland"... what would mean "Traitor in the motherland" The correct or fitting translation or term would be: "Verräter des Vaterlands" -> "Traitor of the fatherland" I guess they used some weird translators.

There is also a 3rd "neutral" ending with Chernov in addition to the "good" and "evil" endings. Even Infinity Ward's CoD4 had you play as a couple of characters like that. It just seems like that whole idea has been abandoned for 'main characters'. @@slicedtopiecesThere's an inherent problem with that in that you're insanely OP for balance's sake so that the gameplay isn't impossible, so it's really hard to have you coherently survive when the whole wave you're a part of aughta have been wiped. It's much more coherent that you're part of a small squad of hyper elite soldiers who also never die except in dramatic cutscenes, while tearing through many many lesser tier enemies. Like, it doesn't't really make sense that you're tearing through 1000 guys as a normal grunt fighting in a company of 100 grunts against another company of 100 grunts. The gameplay makes a lot more sense if you're one of a handful elite that just naturally outclass all the grunts they're tearing through.

"One day it will be their land, Their blood, Their people" This line alone from Reznov in the context of the Stalingrad mission explains a lot of the brutality of Soviet soldiers against the civilian population of Germany. This game is was very deep with it's explanation of the Historical context of the missions you played, and for the Soviet campaign I believe they captured the emotional explanation as well. As an kid from America it was very easy to sympathize with the Marines during the pacific campaign after learning about Pearl Harbor & The Philippines. As a kid I knew the Soviets were our allies in WWII, and that they fought the Nazis. However I did not Immediately understand how they felt about the war until I had played this game a few times, and really listened to character's, and paid attention to their actions, and interactions with each other that I understood their desire for revenge, why Reznov encourages you to kill the Germans surrendering Infront of the subway entrance. The Nazis wouldn't have shown any mercy, and the Game shows this in the first scene as Dimitri where you are playing dead while your wounded, unarmed comrades are executed by Germans. However I also really like that the game has its own message that even though it was very understandable, it wasn't right or 'justified'. It may only be one line of dialogue, but technically the "Good" ending for the Soviets is Dimitri being praised by Chernov for being a true hero who fights the enemy with courage, but who also shows mercy to those who no longer pose a threat.

Actually kind of realistic. I remember hearing a story from some guy's grandfather who was among men assaulting Berlin. Among their squad one man could just gun down hiding civilians out of the blue, or surrendering Germans, while otherwise he was just normal. When confronted as to why he was doing that, he said to piss off, none of their business. The answer was simple: one man was from Belorussia, the other was from Siberia. One had a home and family to return to, to live for, the other no longer did.

WaW got it's notoriety because it did not try to be a good vs evil story. From a soldiers perspective, World War II was hell and they showed that. Soldiers simply followed the orders and faced the consequences all around them.
@fetusdeletus9266
@fetusdeletus9266 9 ай бұрын
Playing WaW to me never felt like playing a cod game, it felt like playing a slightly dramatized version of actual WW2 footage. The sound and visuals are definitely the sticking points of this game (because let’s be honest every WW2 game that tries to be true to the source has the same plot of shoot up the fascists) with the sound design making open firefights actually hectic with bullets whipping past you and explosions going off leaving you stunned and disoriented and then when the gunfight is over you’re just left with the eerie silence only punctuated by the sounds of your fellow soldiers and maybe some fires crackling away. Then there’s the visuals like when you shoot an enemy they visibly react and when maimed by an explosion or an MG42 they clutch their bleeding stump of whatever used to be there while screaming or as you said when they’re set on fire they run around screaming as their skin burns away before finally falling to the ground and lying still and it’s not like Half Life or other cods where they just rag doll after a bit. It all comes together to make the game feel like a horror game where everyone is simultaneously the monster turning people to red paste and the person who is soon to be red paste.

Cod WaW is the creepiest Cod game and the creepiest treyarch game. All use to the fact that the game at first is confusing, the main menu is eerie especially the music. The zombies were also scary because we don’t know behind the story of the zombies mode and everything was basically a mystery

Absolutely loved this video: just wanted to let you know that at 15:10, the hanging German soldiers were usually hanged by the SS and they would’ve used Vaterland (Father Land) instead of Mutterland, or specifically “Vaterlandsveräter”. I’m actually a little confused if whether they wanted to make it look like the Russians hanged them and therefore that’s why it’s motherland instead, which is the more typical Russian word for a homeland, but I’ve never come across that in my studies so I’m inclined to think the devs just got this one wrong 🤷‍♀️ I’m curious what you think tho!!

As a former non-English speaker, I would like to share the experience this game provided in my teenage years. Even though I didn't understand what was verbally said during the game and at the time and I didn't really understand the historical references, I could still feel the impact of that grotesque atmosphere, especially in the final phase in Berlin. It's overwhelming, depressing and nauseating. It's great now, with all the historical repertoire and understanding what is being said, to have a review of this game. For example, understand Reznov now, especially in the phrase "Look around. Do you think they will deny their revenge?" Man, how could they create a game so well-focused on the horror of war and now it's this shit? I imagine it's just to be sold, because the general public seems to show more sympathy for knowledge in a manichaean way that war is bad without wanting to be exposed to a small dose of the horror of war. I believe the core of this would be "Comfort"

How difficult it can be to progress. You just die over and over and over again, you alone. Just take in the feeling of how many guys would have realisticly died if they equaled how many times you died progressing.at times you are stuck in place and others there's is so much going. WAW is the game that still defeats the new woke-soft-COD games to this day. WAW shows what a war game should show to the player. And that is.....war, gore, blood, pain, tears, screams, terror and horror of the war.....and not some woke-soft-weapon skins-funny animations that are made for kids. We should consider ourselfes lucky that we have this game to this day. I will continue to play this game, because of how the society is today with it´s softness and wokeness in video games - "we do not want to show the brutal horror, because it is also meant for kids to play" - "you are not allowed to show this. it is not good. cancel him, cancel that. we do not want to see this. waaaaawawawa". Guess what, wokeness and softness-fans....when another war will break out, it will not care about your feelings or your softness or your wokeness. IT WILL NOT CARE! You will either survive or you will die. This is a simple rule for a war. Enough with this softness-wokeness bullshit! The new COD games cannot achieve this level anymore. Well, for a certain amount of time. I do think that one day the developers will go back to the WAW-level and deliver another good COD. But when will it happen?....I don´t know. A remake of WAW?.....No thanks. Because of the society and how the video game industry changed, the remake will remove the gore level, the terror and horror of the war etc. And instead of making a good horror war game, it will look like My Little Pony-Version of WAW. No horror but a lot of fun and softness. Do you really want to spend your money on this garbage?....It is a rhetorical question, but the answer is up to you.

"But when will it happen?....I don´t know" - I'll tell you. Once ww3 spread to larger scale, be there for few years and finally end. Let's just hope humanity will learn lessons way better and ww4 won't ever break out. Tech is available to humanize war zone and stop killing but stun attacking forces. We don't need ww1 like wars nor ww2 like, we could do better. Games, movies, books and VR experiences should remind this to ppl instead of making them look fun. Killing isn't fun. It's horror.

It's important to understand WAW in the context it was released--2008. There was a slew of WW2 shooters coming out after 9/11. I think there was a desire to recapture that sense of pride and accomplishment for Western countries in light of it. As such, WW2 shooters were incredibly romanticized. They were usually T rated, with little to no blood or gore, with (admittedly beautiful) orchestrated soundtracks, with narratives that were about good triumphing over evil. I remember when WAW came out I was actually shocked to see some guys legs getting blown off by a shotgun. I hadn't seen that in a WW2 game before. And it was so refreshing and new and raw. Playing WAW felt like playing a completely different game from every other WW2 game I had played, and it was amazing. To this day, I still admire WAW for being so unflinching and sincere with its violence, and it's un-romanticized portrayal of the war.

Also, don't forget "epic" can have more than one meaning. By epic, that guy might've meant that the battles of WW2 on a very large, vast scale. After all, it's common to hear the Battle of Kursk called an "epic clash" due to being the largest tank battle in history due to the numbers involved and the size of the area they were confined in (though a Operation Barbarossa tank battle is actually the largest in history by sheer numbers).

And my other grandfather fought in the pacific which was worse. The pacific eventually almost stopped taking all prisoners bc of the Japanese false surrenders where they’d blow themselves up trying to kill other marines. Ofc some surrendered but even then they’d kill their own if they seemed they were going to surrender.

This is why I thinks WAW is more graphically and atmospherically horrifying than Doom or Mortal Kombat. Remember that anti-tank/material rifle is a common drop/pick up in not so many games which one of them is Earth Defense Force but it's reasonable when you have to fight against gigantic aliens but in WAW you practically chopping human-size enemies' limbs off from distance with bullets more powerful than .50 BMG.

World War 2 is known for many epic battles. Yes. Thousands of soldiers drowning in the beached of Normandy. Epic.
