@emilyrouk1820Alina was terribly young especially compared to Aleksander who doesn’t age. She was given too much responsibility. In the backstory we see how grisha were being persecuted just because the king was afraid of their power, they were being put down like dogs. The fold happened because Aleksander became desperate of watching his people die just for being different. Alina would’ve never understood that because it’s the kind of thing you can only understand if you go through it. Once they destroyed the fold do you think she would’ve been safe? She’d have had the same target on her back as Aleksander did. She would’ve been considered too dangerous, her power too great and they would have hunted her too. Don’t forget the humans started this war. So yes, Aleksander’s methods were horrible but after centuries of what he’s been through I don’t know if any of us would be any saner. His good intentions got mixed with grief, pain, rage and revenge and while he did care about protecting grisha the means to do it no longer mattered to him. He got it in his head that the only way for them to be safe was if he dominated the entire map, no matter the cost.

Well he broke his own heart by claiming Alina’s power instead of actually letting himself feel something for her. He could have had that, all of it. Like Alina said, but I think he ruined any chance of ever getting with her. I’m sure Alina would have a hard time trusting him again after killing innocent people and especially after abusing her power and taking it for himself.

That scene in episode 7 fucking horrified me. We all know which one I’m talking about. It just felt like a totally different character. He asked for consent before sex and then go and does that to her!?
@stephaniecastillo90452 жыл бұрын
Not saying he would've forced her sexually but baghra says most of what he does is calculated to get alina to trust/be loyal to him. So him asking was in a manipulative manner when he doesn't care for her consent overall, as he thinks with time she'll break and accept him. Again I dont think he would want to be with anyone sexually that doesnt want it but its a nice contrast scene of what he portrayed when manipulating vs how he really is.

she was just a sheltered girl who didnt understand the bigger politics of the world she thought it was cruel of him to control the shadow fold instead of destroy it. in all fairness to him he did hesitate to give her time to kill the stag and claim the power for herself when she failed to do so he realized she didnt have it in her to the right thing for her own people. she had no idea that sometimes you have to do something cruel to make a point. so he did what he had to. to have the power to reshape the shadow fold and force peace. what a disappointment alina is and in the end she loses her power.

Alina is a frustrating character. She was the reason her friends were killed, because she made the dumb decision to burn the maps so that they would be forced to cross the fold. Then she misunderstood her one and only best friend Mal. And she never tried to understand the Darkling either. She doesn’t deserve to be a main character.

like come on, i get it darkling used alina for his own benefit but would you really stop dead in your tracks, stare 'emotionlessly' at the person and is about to tear up upon hearing the words "she fled on her own", and then afterwards have hints of resignation in your tone, look down and ask "where is she." extra ( copied and pasted because its true ) The complexity of the situation is what makes The Darkling such a good character... Obviously you aren't supposed to like or excuse his actions towards Alina, it is horrible... But you do see his points and his reasoning, and guess what? They are good reasons... His goal is to gain control of the Fold so he can use it as a deterrent for any conflict against his country and specially his people (Grisha); we can of course say that this is violent, tyrannical and "wrong", but not from his perspective... He has lived for a very long time, watched and experienced the persecution towards the Grisha thru generations, never changing, never getting better no matter what he did... He tried hiding, didn't work, he tried being useful, helping the king at the time, fighting for him, the hatred towards Grisha was still there; he has tried every other solution that someone like Alina can possibly come up with as a 'better way', she (and the other characters) are young and naïve compared to what he has experienced... So from his POV when he says "Being the top dog and threatening them it's the only way to keep Grisha safe", he actually knows this to be true from experience, this is the only solution left; and is Alina or any of the other characters really qualified or knowledgeable enough to tell him otherwise? That it's also why he took control of Alina instead of telling her his plan and giving her a choice... He doesn't trust that she would understand the reasoning behind his plans and he is not willing to risk it; he has waited too long for this, he is not leaving anything to chance or to the whims of a person that doesn't understand the extent of the problem and hard choices that need to be made to fix it (This is all from his POV)... Yeah, it is fucked up what he is doing and you have to oppose it on principle; but when you think about it, see his experiences, watch it from his POV, etc. Did they really give him another choice but to say "fuck it, I'm taking over"?
