Looking at the rotation of the lander probe, i would say it fell victim to the Dzhanibekov effect. Essentially, if an object with three different moments of inertia, of which one is significantly larger than the other two (for example, a wing nut or a tennis racket, though with those small side boosters, this one might also work) spins around its own axis, unless the spin is perfectly aligned along only one of those axes, it will eventually reorient its rotation. Here's a video of it happening in microgravity kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6mYhpyteqqpprM Of course, in this particular case, your rotation was much slower, but the physics still applies all the same (though of course, in real life, this would not work with a space probe, because the Dzhanibekov effect only works on rigid bodies, whereas the rocket has a tank with fuels sloshing around in them, which would allow it to disperse this uneven rotation, but KSP doesn't simulate that)
@Aurora_Synth6 ай бұрын
A significantly better explanation than what I gave. The info on the fuel is very interesting, could something like this be used in an O-niell cylinder? If so it would give an actual reason for lakes!
@zuthalsoraniz67646 ай бұрын
I am surprised those little tanks under the solar panels were enough to do it. Visually, I really would have expected the spin axis of that probe to still be the axis with the lowest moment of inertia, not the intermediate axis.
@Carnasa6 ай бұрын
I think those probes under the solar panels are definitely the problem, considering they weren't even supposed to be there, somehow they got moved from where they were in the editor likely causing all kinds of problems, that and the as mentioned Dzhanibekov effect were enough to kill this mission dead :(
@yinansun68816 ай бұрын
@@Carnasa The problem is that your satellite is a bit thin and long, so the spinning is not along the lowest inertia axis and leading to Dzhanibekov Effect. Try using a wider fuel tank to make it more sort of pancake shape
@yinansun68816 ай бұрын
@@CarnasaIt might be helpful to add reverse thruster srbs to push the upper stage away from the probe, if the upper stage touches the probe, it will introduce a torque for the Dzhanibekov Effect to happen

Principia has a built in flyby optimiser now, so you can make a manoeuvre in the ballpark, type in your ideal periapsis and inclination and Principia will try and walk the manoeuvre in for you. Also, you called Principia a noodle simulator, wait until you land on Phobos or Deimos, that made me laugh. Liquid fluorine fuel sounds absolutely horrible and dangerous. Maybe not quite like pentaborane but not nice.
@Carnasa6 ай бұрын
Looks like I need to update my principia! Thats a really nice addition haha Yup, liquid fluorine does not sound nice in the slightest (I also think Beardy might start using it in FaK) or maybe it was pentaborane he was going for I forget, but either way I know he's going to be working with some very toxic propellants in the near future :P

@@Carnasa Squad do is from mexico. But Harvester was a brazillian Immigrant there. I believe he was a graphic design who self taught programming as a hobby so he could post his Microsoft Flight Simulator Mods online. Turns out he discovered a passion for game design and SQUAD (then a marketing company) decided to invest in him. Hmmm, I am pretty sure that was also the first instance were a private company that wasn’t from software development backed up an (at the time) indie project. KSP do have an interesting backstore don't you think?

Have you set the launch complex location to be the pad you want? On the KCT menu at the space centre each LC should have a location button, click on it and you can assign the LC a specific Kerbal Konstructs pad :)

You don't need to build a new launch complex for crew rating, you can just upgrade the first one. I did this and got crew orbit in 1959
