The Day Before The First Day Of School!

i cant believe it's the day right before Scarlett starts school! where did the time go? 😭i'm not crying you are!

This is so sweet. I feel you on the doing the little things for her. I was a single mom too. I started using reusable lunch sacks or bento style boxes to save money on plastic bags. It's a little more on clean up but some of them are insulated so they help keep the food warm/cool as needed. I used the small reusable ice packs too. She's going to do great.

Hope Scarlett has lots of fun this year...about the lunches...try to start packing somewhat healthier foods. Whole wheat (or partial) breads. You can use hummus, avocado and other unprocessed foods. Adding a bag of sliced veggies ( cucumber, carrots, red peppers, cherry tomatoes for example) is also good. Learning to eat these foods will carry on with her as she gets older. Add something new every day and see how it goes. Keep up the good work, Melinda!!

Hi Melinda, Look into the Bentgo kids! You can place all the foods in less containers if you're looking into saving money on plastic bags. Putting food in less containers for small children also helps them eat more of their food because there's less bags/containers to open and they don't lose interest on their other food because it'll all be in front of them. Ice packs are great as well as are Sandwich boxes. My daughter has been homeschooled since 2020 so I am missing packing lunches. Sometimes it was difficult coming up with new ideas to put in her lunch box but now I miss it & she does too. I didnt have that growing up either & I'm so happy that she does & still appreciates it so much! It would be so fun to see more of Scarlets lunches! Maybe we can suggest ideas as well! Making lunch is so fun!

Thats the best part of being a mom is making school lunch. I would put a note with a sticker on it and write a positive note just to let my kids know I love them and remind them to enjoy school.. Good luck and enjoy ur first day at school. She will have fun.. 📓🖍✏️

Awe!! They grow so fast! She's going to love it. One thing no one ever told me was, "only pack what things my kiddo could open by themselves because no one helps them in lunch." I know this probably isn't the case for Scarlett because it's not kindergarten. I said that because you reminded me of how hungry my kiddos (I had twins) were when they came home yet some of the lunch items where still in the lunch boxes...they couldn't open them so they didn't eat them! It broke my heart to hear this! But there's always more kiddos than lunch staff and teachers so I totally understand it!

Memories we never forget. My son was ready to go to kindergarten a year before he was actually ready, The morning of "the big day", he was up at 5 am! He couldn't stay still, (Due to prematurity, he was in size 18 months clothes, Tear our my heart. He was just a baby!) I gave him a half donut and said he could stay outside on the stoop and I would come to him when it was time. A half hour later I went out to find no child except one with another mother dragging her son toward the school and commenting on how lucky I was. I took up the march and, when we got to the crossing guard, I asked him if he'd seen a little guy (who was wearing his name and info pinned to his overalls) and he replied in his thick Irish brogue " Do ya mean Wee Jordie?" I nodded. He chuckled. "He crossed over a half hour ago, 'the little tyke" I missed the whole thing!

I remember the day my son started pre-school. The 1 I picked out had a school uniform..... omg his lil school trousers and jumper was the cutest 😍. He's 13 now and in the UK 🇬🇧 he's going into yr 9 which I think is 8th grade in the US 🇺🇸 🥺😭 gosh it's gone by so fast. Just a warning, kids often ask for school lunches over lunch boxes as they get older and want to do what their friends are doing....You are a good mom to go all out....Good luck with school....I am sure Scarlet is So Excited!

Your Targets must be alot different than the one we had here in my city. We had a Target in our mall for maybe a year, & then it closed. Not many people cared for it & I guess the sales were not all that great, so they shut it down. We are supposed to be getting back our Zeller store back. Yippee!! 🙂

It’s ok to cry, don’t try and hold it in. Also look into a bento box, some kids like to a bit of this and that instead of a whole bag or sandwich at a time. Also save you some money in ziplock baggys too. Coming from a seasoned mumma

I'm surprised Scarlett can take Oreos, chips and fruit roll ups as even 40 years ago, when I was first teaching preschool, the rules were that children could only take healthy lunches.( fruit roll-ups are not healthy as they are really just glorified lollies). They could only bring water. Juices have a lot of sugar, too. I teach in Australia.

Secondly, Melinda has made what's in Scarlett's lunch box the focus of this video so, of course, some comments are going to be about what she's packing in it. There's no harm in asking about policies in other countries. The reason we have the 'healthy lunch' policy is that children need to be healthy and eating food that will allow, and help, them to learn. A child who is hyped-up on sugar will not be able to settle and focus as well as a child who lunched on dairy, fruits and vegetables, all other factors being equal.

Well I love pickle juice too. I like sour and I also like sweet. Maybe your family has come from Minnesota like my ancestors came from. Well my ancestors really came from North Dakota and Minnesota. So those are the places. Or you have some Indian new and I have some Indian in me. Due to I know my ancestors for the pilgrims. Or you have some English in you which I know that also that's for the pilgrims. So I'm the only one in my family since I was a kid that went to Knott's Berry farm in California when I was little I went straight to the barrels of pickles and they were so humongous in my hand the pickles. If you're gonna just cut the tops off the strawberries..there's no point in pulling the stems off lol. That's just more work. Just leave it and it comes off when you cut the top off. Also..why did you throw a grape away just cuz it went on the counter? That's still clean? And..there's nothing wrong with school lunches. If she has the option for school lunches.. You should maybe go thru the menu with her and see what she would like to eat there and on days she doesn't think she'll like the food, pack for her then. That way she can have more of a variety too. Like when you pack, it's cold lunches but if she eats there, it'll be hot lunches. Also, I definitely think you way over packed. 5 oreos is alot. Plus a fruit roll up, fruit, chips, and a sandwich. I wouldve just done fruit, chips, a sandwich, and 1 of the snacks. Some other ideas you could pack her to switch it up are wraps. You can do some ranch, lunchmeat and cheese on them. You could make your own lunchables instead of buying the premade. Just pack everything separate. Like the crackers, meat, and cheese. You could get her a thermos and do ramen if she likes it. Or if yall have pasta for dinner one night..you could pack her leftovers in it. Or if she likes soup. It keeps it warm. Idk if she likes salads but you could make her a little salad. There's all kinds of ideas out there. They even have these little things you buy to make sticky rice balls. If you go watch Not Enough Nelson's they have a ton of videos on their channel of like back to school lunches and stuff. You can even buy those little pizzas like they have in lunchables. Pigs in a blanket if you make the night before. Gogurts, or those Danimals are a good side. Idk lol. Sorry so long. Just trying to help cuz sometimes it gets tricky making lunches all the time cuz you want to do different stuff for them. You can also look into bento boxes. They have all kinds. And some have little containers for like sauce. They're really cute.
