Hagi and Zidane already met twice in qualifiers of that Euro 1996. Anyway, looking back, Zidane emerged to his national team at 22 (not very young for a first national cap), but if France had made it to World Cup 1994 maybe he would have emerged even later and possibly he would have no longer been one of the best players of the France national team. That brutal goal of Kostandinov in 1993 November made lots of changes in the France national team, not just the coach and the FFF leadership were replaced but also the most important players(Papin, Cantona, Ginola) would be sidelined and didn't feature at that Euro 1996.
