The Day I Nearly Died. Will I be Able to Play Golf Again?

The Day I Nearly Died was May 13, 2021. A lot happened that day that resulted in major surgery, 19 days in the hospital and long recovery ahead for me. I cover all the details and what I can and can not do now. What I have to do to recover and how many months or years will it take?

Fredrick you just frightened me and made me cry through this video. I'm so glad you're still with us and mending. What you began to describe sounded so much like my Father but to cry is healthy right? He spent a year reguratating and was eventually diagnosed with stomach cancer. I know, a whole year. They did the surgery, gave him a diet and like you struggled with certain foods. Getting the intestine to squeeze food along to it's final destination is hard when it's all been out on show. Amazing how it works and how it forgets. 8 months later the problems re-occurred. He went in and they opened him up again and diagnosed his entire abdomen riddled with cancer. They sent him home to die and was gone in 2 weeks. He slept the final 3 days. He never complained once. He was 69. The only thing he said to me before he died was to repeat back to me what I had said to him when he retired. "Go out and do the things you want to do before it's too late". If I showed you a photo of this strong man who could hit a 1 iron high in the air and past all his friends who hit driver and was now weighing only 75 pounds you would cry with me. When your video started and it all sounded so familiar to me I thought "Oh no". So I am now crying with relief. Fredrick, you now have a second bite of the cherry, dine heartily my friend and go out and do the things you've always wanted to. Make some memories and please grow very old enjoying them. Simon

Simon thank you for the kind note. I am sorry if I upset you. Thank you for sharing your story with your father. My father died of a stroke with no chance to say good bye in 1993. Changed the path of my life. Looking forward to getting back in the KZbin game.

@@agolferswalk Fredrick, I'm not upset. Just a few emotions getting out for a look at the world. I'm relieved you're well. My Mother went with a stroke and left a rather large hole. As you say, no chance for final words, it's a door slamming rather than closing gently. We are shaped by these experiences. Good luck with your recovery, I've missed you on the tube. I thought it was your rib injury that was keeping you quiet.

Here I am feeling sorry for myself because it’s winter, the weather is rubbish, as is my golf and work is crazy busy. This gives a lot of perspective to that for sure. My friend, I’m so pleased that you are still with us and have the ability to work on a recovery, and I know that imparting your knowledge of the game we love is useful to others and I’ll do everything I can to support and grow that!
