I have drived through badgoi pass several times Alhamdulillah along with my kids. At midnight and in rains, at day times in the sun. Alhamdulillah. You have to practice “engine breaking” in 4wheel low gear to avoid break fail. Lesson learnt: driving in different terrains is an art, don’t rely on your conventional driving skills when off-roading. Exactly, they were driving downhill in D mode. D mode is only for regular driving. That is why the brakes were smelling, because he made excessive use of brakes to slow down the car which caused brakes to overheat and fail. For downhill driving always shift to D2 or L mode.

I am also a driving Instructor in dubai.. you chose wrong gear.. when you driving in downhall areas. Use d 2 gear or L gear in automatic transmission. If manual transmission than use 1 or 2 gear.. if you using toomuch padal break.. the result is break fail.. so don't use only padal break always downhill areas use both break padal break and engine break than INSHAALLAH you break never fail.. INSHAALLAH

Agree ، the brakes should not have overheated at the first place، if it happens one should wait for them to cool down before driving again and the driver should engage L4 and drive in the lowest gear ( L or 1st) if he feels any issue with the brakes

Alhamdulillah. Thanks to Allah who saved you and your whole family. Last year, we went there on University trip. As Asim bhai said that you should booked local jeeps, only just make sure while booking that the driver is mature and resonsable person. I'm saying because we booked a local jeep and the driver was the age of 18-19. He drove jeep insanely. Many time we thought that we're now going to fall from the hill but Allah save us. Secondly, I also recommend that don't go on a trip with your complete family and last but not the least, always give Sadkah before traveling. May Allah protect all of you.

Bro, I have also personally experienced that way from Kalam through Utror to Kumrat. It is one of the deadliest ways having no road but just a narrow route. I was stuck midway in between as my vehicle was not able to move ahead then I took a local driver to reach Kumrat. Glad that you & your family are fine.

Shukar Alhamdulillah you guys are fine A few things everyone should keep in mind before going to Northern Areas: 1) Take your best vehicle, even if there is a minor mechanical work dont take it unless you've repaired it. 2) Try to take manual car, because even in the case of failed breaks you can stop the card in gear. Besides, in hilly areas if is advised to use breaks less and control car through gears (Lower Gear). 3) Driving in Peshawar and Islamabad is hard compared to hilly areas because of the traffic rules and everything but this is a misconception that if you can drive in city you can easily drive in hilly areas. Its completely different and very complicated so, always try to take a local driver with you especially when you're touring such far flung areas. 4) Lastly, always always try to watch videos on youtube before you visit the place. If you ask a local about the place, they'll always tell you its smooth as butter, no problem what so ever because they're use to it. Watching video would give you an idea about the roads and its condition. Stay Safe

Asim bhai Allah saved your entire family but according to my experience you used too much brakes while descending so that was the cause of brake failure. Remember always drive carefully while descending only use low gears never use brakes. So honestly it was Asim’s fault as he used the brakes which caused the main accident.

Sorry for what happened. my take is you're not experienced enough to drive in the mountains. You didn't use enough engine braking through gears and used too much of the brake and overheated them. You should take an experienced local driver for such trips. Thank God your family is safe.

Allah jisko rakhna chahta h use koi nai kuch kr skta h. Mere sath b esa hua nd I lost my son jiski age 3 saal thi. Mera beta inshallah jnnat mai hoga.
